What do you consider as your "watch collection"?

I am preparing to share my SOTC here with you folks and came up the question which one to show. Because I would only say to some of them that they are included in my collection. How are you defining your collection?

For me, I categorized my collection by sub-collections. If you feel like sharing a part of your collection that you feel passionately about, Let’s see them!! 😜🍻

Like @Ichibunz here, I consider all watches part of my collection (wife sure does too! LOL), but I also have sub-collections; a collection of collections, if you will.

·

I don't collect watches and have no collection. I guess technically I could technically count the inherited items as a collection, but I'd prefer not to.

·

I have a "core" box and anything outside of it "doesn't really count" . . . I categorize this to some degree by price and perceived value and scarcity. Basically, if I can easily replace something and it wouldn't be a big financial deal or if I wouldn't cry too hard if it got lost/stolen then it's part of my "fun/doesn't need to be put in a safe" crowd that goes in the storage compartment on top of my watch winder. Technically, I guess these watches are also part of the collection but if someone came over and asked me to walk them through my collection I probably wouldn't grab watches outside of the box.

About 10-15 that I wear. I have a lot of random stuff that isnt part of the collection. Bags of crappy watches that were given to me, or random $1 yard sale buys that dont count.

·

I have to decide individually because I have a watch that was a DIY watch that I don’t like, one that I wear that I’d like to sell, and one I don’t wear that I’ll always jew around. The first two I don’t consider as part of my collection, so it’s really a case by case basis. And then I just got gifted a watch that I have no idea what to do with - doesn’t fit with my theme but it’s a great watch

It’s weird. I have “Luxury”, “Affordable” and “Casio” collections. Luxury being anything over $1k, affordable under $1k and Casio because they are so damn cheap and fun to collect. I consider the luxury side more serious, thought out and hopefully keepers. Affordable is for the fun stuff and honestly I only have 1 right now and it was under $150.

Luxury:

Black Bay 36, Black Bay 58 and GS SBGW231

Affordable:

Seiko SNXS79K

Casio:

W800H, A168W, W217H, W218H, GMS2100B, DW5600E, F105W

I’m with the responses of people that have separate ‘collections’, primary and budget. I only consider my ‘primary’ collection as my collection. These are pieces I truly loved enough to spend what was, for me, a significant amount of money on. There’s a dedication, and sacrifices made to create this group. So, those are all long term keepers. On the other side are my budget pieces, mostly Pagani Design homages and a couple of Seikos that I really liked. I really like these also. But the design of the sub collection is meant to be okey with not being permanent. If a friend really liked one of my PDs, I might just give it with a smile. These are fun, and if they got lost I would not have to replace them.

All of that said, you should feel free to post whatever you want in regards to your collecting journey. I chose to post only my primary because that’s what’s permanent for me.

All my watches, except my Apple Watch. For me that’s tech.

I feel no need to define what constitutes my collection. Some watches I like better than others, to the point that the less liked ones are barely part of the collection. Some of my quartzes I won't renew the battery when it runs out, there are my bottom tier. Equally disliked is my Ventura homage from Winner; it has a decent rubber strap which has saved it from the bin. But it is a spectrum, it is not just yes/no, some are more at the core than others.

This is not a price issue, one of my £10 Skmei is very much at the core of the collection, while my much more expensive Constantin Weisz watches most certainly are not.

·

Core watches are the ones I have deliberated over and chosen myself.

Rest are ones that have a sentimental value, gifted or just too cheap/broken to give away.

Same here. I differentiate between my entire collection (meaning all the watches that I own) and my daily wear pieces. There are watches in my collection that I'll never wear, for one reason or another. They are tucked away in drawers and also in my basement. But then, there are my daily wear pieces resting in their exhibition watch box, that receive a lot of attention and wrist time throughout the year.

Primary collection. Current theme is "colors." Other themes have been affordables, luxury, 5/10/12/14 watch collections.

"Gifted to me" collection. Never to be sold.

Heirs collection. Those have bought to give to my kids/grandkids

When I get a watch it is not a given that I will keep it forever but some watches manage to convince me. Those I can see calling my collection. 😮 am I too hard on them?

I think your current collection is everything you have even if your going to move some on.

·

D - Whatever's in the watch box. Elsewhere in the house are other random watches; some running, some not, some completely stuffed. I don't consider them part of "my collection" at all.

·

7 in the "collection", 4 of which I wear regularly, & probably another 15-20 in a big watch box that are old, broken or just fell out of favour that I don't count & haven't even looked at for years in some cases.
