Been a passive viewer for my first couple of weeks, so thought I would say hello and share my current pieces!
My name is Jake and I hail from a mid-sized city in Ontario ๐จ๐ฆ. My hobbies include playing basketball, DnD, vinyl music, and of course... โ๏ธ
Geeking out over watches is something that I've inherited from friends and family over the past few years. Like any hobby, watches are an extension of our personalities, and a fun way to express yourself in a subtle(ish) way. I don't wear my pieces to show them off, but it absolutely makes my day to talk watches with other fans!
The picture includes the modern 'mainstays' of my humble collection, on display in this beautiful case that my partner got for me! I would love to hear new opinions on what my next piece might look like: should i move up the price scale, try a watch from a new country, explore a new complication? Let me know your thoughts!
My collection (from left to right):
Orient Sun & Moom V2 ๐ (FET0T02S0)
Orient Bambino V4 ๐ (FAC08003A0)
Seiko Monster Gen 1 ๐ (SKX781)
Citizen Corso Eco-Drive ๐ (AO9025-05E)
G-Shock 'Casioak' ๐ณ (GA2100-7A)

Nice setup and collection. That Casio is quite striking - how is the legibility?
Welcome and great watches on a really cool display setup
Welcome to the communityโฆ great watches!
Welcome. Nice collection. I say stay with watches that call to you and that do not put a unbearable dent in the wallet.

No problems in the sunshine, but can be difficult otherwise. Contributing factors include the small negative-display digital window and weak backlight.
Excellent question. Since you opened the AMA, your receiver still has a tape functionality? :-) Though looking at the pic I assume you keep a stereo setup for the phono, which makes sense.
Welcome. That a good looking collection you have going there. Iโm glad you shared it. I hope to see more of what you think.

Hey thanks for noticing! Audio is a relatively new hobby of mine after inheriting the reciever, record player and speakers. I am still learning all of the ins and outs, and keep a relatively simple settup to start as I learn more. In short, I have yet to use the tape inputs!

That is awesome. It is a whole other rabbit hole. For many, especially if you are just using it for records, a good receiver, even an older one, a couple speakers, and a record players is all you need. While I am sure they still sell tape decks, I guessing one pays through the nose for old tech these days. The only one in stock at Crutchfield is $700, wow.
Welcome to WC! Love your watches and display.
Enjoy the watch!
Cheers!
Love the Orient Bambino and the Sun & Moon watches. Planning to get the Sun and Moon one. Maybe the Bambino too.
Welcome Jake! Nice collection. As far as where to go with it is totally up to you. I typically go with what I like the looks of and try to look at reviews, specs, and video before my next purchase. I am getting close to 50 watches now and am very satisfied with what I have though I always seem to be looking at what should I add next. I have really enjoyed my recent Microbrand additions, Seiko cocktails, and the Elvis80s watch.
Nice diverse collection you got there! โค๏ธThat orange monsterโฆ๐ช
Welcome!
Hi Jake, I live in a slightly larger Ontario city was an audiophile until my electrostatic speakers which were originally designed for use somewhere at Ontario Place became 10k boat anchors, no regrets the sound was magical when they were working. Collecting watches isnโt any less fanatical, sometimes results in smaller boat anchors. After my older brother married, he and I needed to divide our massive vinyl collection, it was based on who decided to add the disc. He received all the best jazz on virgin vinyl, I took Vicki Carr live at Vegas haha but also John Lennon with Yoko Ono and all the original Beatles Lps on vinyl. You will find your own way with your watch journey, best way to explore any passion.
Welcome Jake! Nice collection you got there and nicely displayed. Also great to see other fellow crunchers who like ๐
Welcome!
Very nice collection.
You should talk with the dungeon master himself @Aurelian about DnD
Welcome Jake! Nice collection you haveโฆ and nice turntable as well! I think you have most your bases covered with that current lineup. In terms of what direction to go next, only you would know best but a tip to help aid you in your search:
Unless youโre keen on trying something new/different (as a change of pace), I think you should observe which of your watches you find yourself grabbing most. Then ask what are the specific qualities of that piece that really rev your engine, and then use that criteria to narrow down your search. Good luck and keep spinning! ๐ค
love the white G-Shock 'Casioak' ๐ณ (GA2100-7A) โค (do you know Adam Noble, by any chance?)
Welcome to the crunch Jake
Love the Orient Bambino and the Sun & Moon watches. Planning to get the Sun and Moon one. Maybe the Bambino too.
The Sun & Moon was an inpulse buy for me a few years back, and looking back it was one of my best impulse decisions ๐! Great for suit & tie occasions, sapphire crystal, in house movement, and very attainable to my small wallet.

Those are great pics! Im also exploring microbrands, it seems that many are smaller releases that you have to be quick to pull the trigger on. Also a bit more expensive to get to Canada...

The monster was a super lucky find and checks all the boxes for me! Just wish that these older, discontinued Seiko models were more accessible to others.

Sounds like you have excellent sound tastes, fellow Canuck! Would love to hear more about your experiences in that space.

Not sure if I recognize that name... ๐ค

My sis in lawโs dad was a true audio nut, we used to read The Absolute Sound and Stereophile a million years ago, not sure those mags still publish. My older brother and I needed to drive down to the States to haul a set of Infinity speakers back for one his dad in lawโs clients. Watch guys could learn lessons from sound buffs. I am happy to mess with watches but the presentation boxes are cumbersome. Good luck with your watch addition!

When I started getting into Seikos, we could still get those monsters new with discount from the AD๐ . Unfortunately I didnโt get one but got the SKX instead. Those were the days. Iโm my opinion Orients are good buy now and they got some interesting models
Welcome to watch crunch
I love the orient and the citizen great selection over all though
Welcome sir ๐ค๐ผthat Orient Sun & Moon really caught my eye!
