Coolest celebrity and watchmaker association?

I used the word "association" instead of "collaboration" because the most iconic one, arguably, wasn't official in any way. Which of these celebrity associations do people here find the most....enduring, meaningful, or just downright cool? Maybe you really like the celebrity, or the watch, or you like them both. Or, more than the person or the product, you like the story behind the relationship, like the Newman Daytona has. I don't know if the James Bond / Omega counts here since that's a franchise and not an individual. Feel free to disagree. Please comment with other associations that I and other members may not be aware of.

Didn’t know the Joker associated with Seiko

Communism for thee but not for me.

I hear there's also a "thing" between Lewis Hamilton and IWC. It's probably nothing new, just new to me.

Armitron and Johnny wujek. https://www.armitron.com/pages/johnny-wujek

I must be hopelessly uncool as I only know of 2 of those celebrities.

But I’d say easily Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Seiko H558 are the coolest.

Here's the way I see it:

Paul Newman immortalized the Rolex Daytona.

Steve McQueen immortalized Persol sunglasses.

I'm not aware of the Robert Redford association. Elaborate please!

Steve McQueen & Hanhart for me.

Newman gets my vote because we share the same birthday

Keith Haring and swatch?

Haha, you lucked out that Newman has a "Rolex" story and not an "MVMT" one! Otherwise you'd be trapped with that connection forever.

Keith Haring and swatch?

Will have to look this one up...

Personally I think Steve McQueen and the Explorer II would be my choice.

·

The Rafael/Richard Mille is unique because 1) Rafa seems cool as hell, and 2) I could afford a Richard Mille after I sell some of my organs, maybe...

So that explains a lot

No comment 🤣🤣🤣

The Swiss don't discriminate.

You're assuming the Swiss even knew who was buying them.

I was saying tongue-in-cheek. I'm pretty sure they didn't go out seeking authoritarians to sell watches to.

Lol, fair enough.

Roger Federer and Rolex

Tiger Woods and Tag Heuer

George Clooney and Omega

These are all paid sponsorships, correct? Like Novak and Nadal...?

Yes, I think you’re right. I might have misunderstood the post.

I think it’s along the lines of “when you think of Rolex…who do you think of…”

·

Don't worry, I wasn't criticizing! Just simply confirming that they are indeed paid sponsorships.

Personally, for me Roger and Rolex would be high up there for coolness, higher than Novak and even Nadal.

This?

Exactly!

I really dislike Djokovic, but if Seiko is sponsoring him that’s kinda cool. It’s incredible that one of the top players has so affordable brand as a sponsor.

·

Btw my vote goes for Jennifer Lawrence being one of the Longines ambassadors. Likely caused by the fact I have a crush on both of them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Alternate pick for me is the Robert Reford/Rolex association. Particularly because he wears it on his right wrist, like I do 😁.

He wears a Sub in All the President’s Men, but I think I’ve seen other pictures of him wearing it outside of his films.

I had to vote by the most well known association. Steve McQueen is a close 2nd.

In case someone hasn't yet seen the auction of the "Paul Newman of Paul Newman" Rolex Daytona...

Just posting here for fun and because it's cool. Not new, but still cool. Aurel Bacs, the auctioneer, looks like he's having a blast up there.
