Are you sick of seeing GMT watches?

Seems like every brand is pushing a GMT however did Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now get it right?

Nah Im cool with them.

But i AM sick of supermarkets pushing spaghetti pasta and every damn DIY store pushing silicone sealant.

·

Im sick of seeing GMTs always being 39mm and up…just because I travel a lot doesn’t mean I need a bank safe on my wrist

·

More moon phase, less GMT! I'm not an airline pilot and every device I'd need to care about someone in a different time zone can already figure this out. Besides, I still haven't bothered to understand the function despite several people trying to explain.

·

Nope! My collection is evenly split between divers, chronos, and GMTs 😎

The more choices the merrier imho. Not got one, no use for one, but "too much is never enough" 😊👍🏻

·

On one hand I am, on the other, no, but on the third hand....

·

I love gmts, my favorite complication

·

I really like them, both for their visual interest on the dial, and for their functionality

·

Bring them on. If you travel, no complication is more useful.

·

I have no need but others likely do, so they can buy whatever they want. 👍

·

I appreciate the look of world timers more

·

I don't have one, and I will no doubt get one. However I don't need every new release to just be an existing watch with a GMT stuck inside. Maybe I'm generalising but it feels like that sometimes

·

Obviously a fan of the Apocalypse Now reference...

What I tire the most of surrounding the contemporary GMT releases/discussion is the whole "FLYER" vs "CALLER" ideologies / debates / snobbery that inevitably occur. Remember folks: these are romanticized objects :)

My preference for a GMT is the captive 24 hour hand that is never decoupled from the traditional hour hand... like the OG GMT Masters of the past...

Yes, Brando (Colonel Kurtz) had it right.

I'd add, I wish more brands did a dual use bezel. Like Nodus and others, a 12 hr plus elapsed. Icing would be a 12 hr plus a COUNTDOWN. But apparently I'm in a vast minority of people who think a countdown is more useful.

I'd argue it is, due to how often we are counting down for things, water to boil, duty day end, workout end, time till detonation....👀🤏🏻😆.

Simple addition and subtraction works for me. I'm currently tracking Chicago, Mumbai and Seoul in my head, I don't think GMT can help with that.

·

I’m happy to keep seeing more GMTs until they make one I’m completely in love with (hint: it’ll have to be a tad smaller). Admittedly, it’s been a bit much lately, but it’s an awesome complication!

·

Since you ask 😉

I feel the same way with GMT's as with divers. Seems like 90% are bought by people who don't dive, and my guess is that the same goes for watches with a GMT function. And it seems many GMT's are divers watches, so perhaps these appeals to the same people.

Personally I'm able to subtract six hours from the time zone I live in, if I want to know what time it is at my family across the ocean.

But hey, it doesn't take anything away from me that people produce GMT-watches, and that other people buy them. So all good 😄

·

I don't mind them but more than with the integrated trend, here it's really easy to tell when it's just an afterthought add on to boost sales as many of them clash with the dial

·

No, he was in the middle of a jungle he didnt give a darn what time it was anywhere else>>I was the same when I was there also..LOL My collection seems to have five or six GMT's and I dont travel any longer so it doesnt make any sense...but then I have 11 or 12 divers and i live in the middle of the desert..LOL Enjoy the hobby and dont over think it....

·

Yes now that I got my GMT fix

I don't feel any desire to own a GMT but I don't mind them. Some of them look pretty good to me but I have no use for a GMT function but I can appreciate it anyway.

NO I NEED MORE

I don't have a GMT now, but I'm looking to add one this year. Seems like the right year for it.

But that's due to a life change coming up that would make a GMT complication useful for me to have, otherwise I wouldn't be looking.

I don't think there's too many. The NH34 is still new and shiny and watchmakers want to play with it. It makes sense. And it's nice to see GMTs becoming less niche and more affordable.

I don't think we're at GMT critical mass until we start getting a solid range of 36mm options.

Moon phase is the most baller complication, it's true.

I will say though, that in a post-pandemic world, the way people think about and prioritize connecting with loved ones far away has changed.

I don't think that extra GMT hand is just about tracking another time zone with minimal math. I think it can also be a visual reminder of the people you love and can't always be near to, or an anchor to where you came from if you're far from your roots. After all, watches are highly personal, sentimental objects. I would guess that for some people a GMT may not be about traveling or conducting business across time zones. It may just be about feeling a small tether to the people and places you've left behind on life's journey.

I’m not a fan of GMT watches particularly those where the GMT hand dominates the dial i.e. the first thing I see when glancing at the watch. I’ve no need for a GMT so I haven’t got one but having said that I’ve no real need of a chronograph but the hadn’t stopped be owning a couple. I suppose it’s down to personal taste.

The Parmigiani with that hidden hand intrigues me but I don’t need anything more than my casio for travelling.
