I love this watch but … 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hello everyone,

Since the release of the white dial speedy i was waiting the chance to get it. I visited omega boutique to buy it , I put on my hand but I didn’t feel it. It’s the watch I really wanted but when I saw it didn’t get this need to get it, someone thing was missing but I can’t tell what is it.

Its Everything I wanted in an Omega. Maybe wasn’t the right day or it’s not the right watch for me .. will be happy to hear similar stories from you …

I can't offer up a reason as to why you didn't like the watch other than, the dream is very often more appealing & enticing than the reality. This can be applied to many different things in life. Perception & reality are very different things.

You did the right thing though. You saw it, tried it on & the reality didn't match what you thought it would. You avoided potential buyer's remorse. You'll find a new watch that does meet your expectations soon enough 👍

·

I tried on a Rolex Explorer 2 with the white dial and I felt…nothing. Like you I was disappointed and walked away 🚶‍♀️

·

Every watch isn't meant for every wrist. The black Speedy was one of those for me.

·

I had a moonwatch, previous model. Objectively, I liked every detail of it. Subjectivity, I didn’t fall in love with it. So I sold it and bought Seamaster Diver seaweed. There are many details I don’t like but as a whole I love it.

I can’t explain why. It’s just how I feel.

·

Never been a big fan of the original Speedy, finally purchased a DSOM because I like black, very fond of black ceramic so a white dial Speedy is never going to trouble me.

·

Be happy you caught your true feelings about it before plonking down a few thousand. If you have a change of heart down the road it will always be available. During the pandemic I bought a lot of watches sight unseen, and let me tell you, pictures and videos can frequently paint a rosier picture than when viewed in person (of course the opposite is also true). On to the next watch! 👊

·

I went to buy one and walked away because I felt it wasn't worth the asking price, it didn't float my boat when I got hands on. That could be me though, I have an issue with expensive (overpriced) watches.

·

If it doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you. The originally Speedy ended up not working for me.

In regards to this white one, every place I put my name down for it said it'll be next year before I get it.

·

This happens to me quite a bit and I’m thankful. Otherwise I’d be bankrupt

·

I actually like the white dial but my personality always pushes me away from anything that gets a lot of hype. As such, I am consistently a late adapter by a minimum of two years, be it cars, gadgets, and sadly clothes (ten years in fact).

The one watch I thought I was actually going to buy after holding it was the white explorer 2, but when I held an explorer 14270, it was love at first sight. My wife loved it with when I brought it home, and so I ultimately gave it her as she deserves it. Now I’m on the hunt for another 14270 for myself. I’ve revisited the explorer 2 many a nights, and I still can’t get myself to buy one. I know I’m in the minority but I know myself by now. If I have to rely on other people’s positive opinions about a watch, that means I’m trying hard to convince myself.

·

Sometimes you gotta trust your guts. Especially when it comes to such a big purchase

·

Every watch is not for everyone, I love mine.

Its pretty amazing a boutique had one available to buy, especially if you aren't a VIP customer of that boutique

·

I think it’s great that you looked, felt, tried it, and it just wasn’t all you thought it would be and walked. Good for you!

I’ve needed to do that before, but thought, I’ve been slinking at this and “wanting” it for so long, it should grow on me.

Thankfully the once this happened has turbines out alright, JLC Duo Reverso. Love the watch now, had it about 9 months. Glad I bought it.

I can definitely see that I will need to walk away from something in the future.

·

I am not a fan because they are hand wound

·

I applaud you for your restraint as soon as you didn't "feel it". The reality somehow not having the same impression as the dream and desire. I think you defined the most important purchase criterion. If it doesn't tingle your spine on your wrist, leave it be and find something else. I should follow your example more strictly.

·

I'm not a fan because - personally - for that price it should be self winding and it also does not have a date function... but great to look at imho! Beautiful timepiece!

·

For me specifically for that watch is the taper on the bracelet. It's cut deep from 20mm to 14mm - from what I remembered. Like a katana 😂

·

You didn’t feel anything? Clearly your Omega AD didn’t twist hard enough. Every time I go in, they make sure I can't walk straight for days.

Jokes aside, better you discover it now before it’s another lonely member of the watch box. 👍

·

Tried it on as well at the boutique, the issue for me was the expectation was too high so the impact was not as much when it’s finally on the wrist

·

Had simmilar experience with Speedy. Tried it on 4-5 times in few years and never clicked aldough on paper it seems like ideal watch for me and I wanted it. After going to buy some other watches in Japan I tried it on again and never looked back, love it now and one of my most worn watches. Give it some time and if not for you there are many other watches out there.

·

Yeah that happens sometimes. Sometime I guess because it looks so perfect in the official photos which often aren't real photos but actually computer generated.

·

I got a call today from the boutique to purchase one but as I just bought a pp and with less cashflow decided to pass on this. I think the hype has gone down since the first release

I feel the same way.

Thank you guys for your amazing comments. It make Me feel I’m not the only person who think about watches 😅

To address some points the AD team was amazing , friendly andhelpful.

The watch is amazing , really like the white dial but I guess my expectations was higher than it should and because I kept researching the watch once I saw it I felt nothing special. When I bought my panerai the first time I’ve put on I didt want to give it back and that what I want to feel when I buy any watch .

I read a comment that’s really interesting about the watch will grow in you and will like it by time . I agree with that but I may do it on cheaper prices. To be honest I tried that with legend diver bronze longines which is a beautiful watch that I always get compliments on but I feel I would not buy it again.

The only thing made this decision hard I wanted to have my first omega and I feel I had the chance on a great watch that people are joining waiting lists to get and I just walked away 😅

·

Happened to me several times. You see a watch on the internet/in print only to be dissapointed seeing it in the flesh.

The prices kill a lot of nice watches, dont they?

·

I think the Speedmaster with its toolvintagesportyslashstillelegantandunique-look still works best with the original „black“ dial variation and white hands, if the Speedmaster look is what you are looking for. I like the white dial variation but I think it is more for people who are trying to decide maybe between a white AT or white Speedy or compare it with a watch from another brand like Zenith El Primero for example.

·

First impression is the only one "that counts". Whether you love the watch "at fist sight" or is "meh" is okay of a watch.

I went last year to the Omega boutique and tried some of their models including the Globemaster.

The Globemaster was "meh" for me so I passed.

My best advise is "trust your gut feeling" and don't rush into buying something that you might regret later on. Best of luck!
