If a friend or an acquaintance, complements you on your watch do you immediately take it off and hand it to them to look at ? I do for some reason, maybe I should stop doing that. ๐ณ๐
Yep! I then immediately realise itโs just a compliment and they definitely didnโt want โIntroduction to mechanical watches 101.โ
If it isnโt a very intentional โWhat kind of watch is that?โ etc then Iโve learned the hard way that itโs best to just say โthanks!โ ๐
I hear you, I think people who know me instantly regret mentioning watches to me as I undoubtedly bore them to tears with my rambling monologue, that is sure to follow ๐ค
Interesting. I was dining with my wife at a Shabu Shabu restaurant a few weeks ago when I noticed that the gentleman sitting next to me had a Grand Seiko. We had separate tables but share a common continuous bench seat. Being an annoying watch nerd that I am, I complimented him on his GS. Gracefully, he took it off to show me. "It's the Lake Suwa", he said. Imagine that, showing a complete stranger your very expensive watch. I declined to take hold of it knowing that I wouldn't do that myself. I showed him what I was wearing, and we chatted a bit. Walking away, I was thinking whether he is super naive that I wouldn't run off with his watch or if he was trusting that a fellow enthusiast would take special care of his watch and return it afterward. It was kinda weird.
It depends. If it's someone I trust, and I know they're interested in watches, such as my dad, sure. If it's just a passing compliment, then I may give them a better look at it on my wrist, but wouldn't take it off.
Mostly no. Especially someone who may not know if itโs a expensive watch and May accidentally drop it. Have done that only at watch meetups under a closed environment.
Depend upon the watch, depends upon the person. For instance, I would gladly hand over an Omega to a long time good friend but if they are only an aquaintence, then probably no. However, and inexpensive watch, share in hand with everybody.
Depends on the person and occasion. Sometimes they regret telling me this, after I splash numerous knowledge about the watch and write an essay within 5minutes about the model ๐
I do it with my wife mostly because she has zero recall of any of my watches even ones that she went out to buy as appreciated presents for me. She gets annoyed with my curious habit just as I get bothered that she cares so little about my hobby.
Now that I think of it, Iโve never taken my watch off to show anyone. Maybe at a WC meetup when everyoneโs passing their wrist choice of the day around the table, but thatโs it. I seem to recall only extending my wrist, and now to think about it, itโs probably subconsciously due to laziness.
I hand any of my watches to anyone that has interest in seeing it, since it isn't in the middle of a street to a perfect stranger, I don't see a reason for any worries.

I do sometimes depends on the person. But some watches ..... I don't:D
Iโve done it a couple of times but only with someone I know and trust really well.
I show it to my closest friends and family. And thatโs if they ask because only those comfortable enough would ask.

Yep, unless the person looks to be faster or stronger than me lol

Sometimes I do. Especially if I'm wearing an automatic and it has glass case back. I try to show them that the back is as interesting than the front.

Friends and family absolutely, strangers, nope.
Yes I do, when someone notices my watch it's almost a once in a lifetime situation , so its show time, so to speak!!
My watch never leaves my wrist when I'm outside the house - never.
Depend upon the watch, depends upon the person. For instance, I would gladly hand over an Omega to a long time good friend but if they are only an aquaintence, then probably no. However, and inexpensive watch, share in hand with everybody.
No, they never ask about or complement my watches. They just donโt care.
No one ever commented on a watch I'm wearing... ๐ค
Never...JMO

They don't even have to ask. Anyone who makes eye contact gets given my watch and asked to comment on it. ๐
Only if one of the close friends you can count with one hand. If a "friend" or acquaintance, absolutely not.
The more expensive the watch, the more forceful and harder I throw it at them to check it out.
That's how l got a watch stolen in grade school. ๐
Depends

It really depends on the context. When the person knows I'm an enthusiast/brand owner I definitely hand them the watch. Otherwise I wouldn't.
No I do not hand my watches to anyone. People are not careful enough and might drop them.
