What’s the goofiest “tool” you’ve ever used to make a micro adjustment?

What do you do when it’s hot out, your wrist expands, you don’t have on-the-fly micro adjustment on your bracelet, and you don’t carry a spring bar tool around all the time?? 😂😂

Of course there are options. You could just generally wear your bracelet looser to compensate, you could take your watch off, or you could tolerate losing a bit of blood flow to your hand.

On many occasions I have tried to get creative, finding random objects to use as “tools” to adjust my clasps. These have included:

  • Paper clips

  • Push-pins or thumbtacks

  • Staples

  • Small tips of pens

  • The backs of my girlfriend’s earrings

  • Bits of wire from small pipe cleaners

Eventually I just embraced the insanity and started carrying paper clips in my wallet for this specific purpose. Please tell me I’m not the only one…

I have bent the end of a flimsy keychain and used that. Works good for getting pocket lint out of my charger port on my phone too.

That’s a good one!!

I always keep a paper clip innmy card holder. Works perfectly 😊

·

I have used paperclips, never thought to put one In my wallet, great idea ,last time I had to pop into an AD to get it resized

·

My sausage fingers. 😑

·

Toothpicks!

·

I've used a cell phone SIM removal tool and the pin that affixes your poppy to your clothes (those from Commonwealth countries will understand the poppy reference).

·

Nothing too weird tbh… the pin from my Swisschamp recently, and quite commonly a mechanical pencil. Very very carefully, as the pencils are not cheap 😆

I once needed a filling because of using my teeth to squish a springbar shut and holding it that way to get it back in the watch though. That was stupid, but I was all of thirteen. It didn’t even work…

·

I have so many watch band tools you have no idea. I will never need a paperclip lol.

Toothpicks!

Very smart… no risk of weird scratches

·

Used them all.

Also a Gerber C4 punch on a multitool can work in a pinch too, provided the adjustment hole is big enough.

As does a filed down Kabar chopstick end, and/or filed down Kabar fork, and/or other filed down plastic sticks.

Speaking from experience of course 😆.

·

I no longer have bracelets on any of my watches 😁

·

Used the plastic end of a pen lid (the clip part) but cut the end with a penknife so it would fit (when trapped at work)

Ps I tried using the toothpick on my Swiss Army knife - it can do some but it squishes it pretty badly and is too weak for some(most).

Wooden cocktail stick is the usual suspect tho

Sim ejection tool :D

If it's goofy and it works, it's not goofy anymore.

·

I use my Parker Jotter when I need to microadjust in the office. Although, just between us WCers, I keep a springbar removal tool in my bag ✌️

A toothpick.

·

Paper clip !

·

Toothpicks! They are the best, because they don’t scratch the metal.

Works so well, I carry one on my car keys

Actually, I need to do the same thing

I usually use a thumb tack at home or work. They are readily available.

The weirdest was when I worked in an aluminum foundry in the melt area. I picked up a tiny bit aluminum shaped like a raindrop that froze mid-air from a molten aluminum splash. The tip was pretty pointy and pushed the pin in the clasp perfectly.

OK, I think this wins for weirdest.

Fits perfectly

Paper clip, wooden toothpick, thumb tack

·

I’ve used the tip of a corkscrew one particularly hot summer day at my in laws house to adjust my clasp 😂

·

I once gave a watch to a local shop for adjustments the guy got it all wrong so I think he was a worse tool I've used .
