Watch Olympics - Team GBR

Which three watch brands best represent UK in ALL areas of watchmaking?

Let's say that all the watchmaking countries come together to participate in the Watchlympics. Three companies are chosen for each country and compete against one another, judged on three general areas:

Heritage & History: The stories behind the brand, the watches, or the people that wore them and when

Design & Craftsmanship: The beauty of the brand's design philosophies, or their commitment to creating the best movements imaginable

Versatility & Affordability: The 'value for money', adaptability; The watch/brand that can do it all - At least, as much as possible from the price point

Which three (3) UK brands would you nominate to compete? Comment below.

If it were me:

Fears - Founded in 1846 and run by the sixth generation of the founding family, Fears has a widespread and recognisable heritage in the world of watchmaking

Roger W. Smith - It wouldn’t be right if Roger W. Smith wasn’t here, as he is regarded as one of the greatest watchmakers of all time and the only person to be taught by the legendary George Daniels

Studio Underd0g - Exploding onto the scene in the last four years, Studio Underd0g has a wide range of recognisable, playful and yet capable designs at a reasonable price

I'll add Rolex then 😁

Oh this is tough. I’d probably swap out Studio Underd0g for Christopher Ward. I love SU and my Goofy Panda is fantastic but I feel like CW has to be here and it beats SU in versatility, but looses out to the other two on the other factors.

·

Huh? One of your criteria is heritage and history and on your list is Studio Underdog launched in 2021.

I never said one watch brand had to cover all three criteria.

You know, I do feel quite silly for not including Rolex on team GBR.

I do feel a bit tenuous using that example but those are rhe rules😀

Bremont for quality craftsmanship. Their detailed case designs and finishing are top notch and use of steel hardening and DLC makes them very hard to scratch.

CW for value. They seem hard to beat for pure value at any of their price points.

CWC for historical significance. If you want a watch issued by the UK armed forces in the last 50 years or so, they're the real deal. You'll pay a big premium for it though these days. They used to be excellent value, until they realised what some people are prepared to pay and more than doubled their prices.

Farer!
