Tell me which Grand Seiko Quartz you would buy

I was watching a YouTuber earlier today, waxing lyrical on, 'the most underrated watches'. Now, putting aside that this list largely, and mysteriously, correlated with the watches they own (which gave me a chuckle), it did put Grand Seiko Quartz back on my radar.

Talk to me about your experiences with Grand Seiko Quartz, either as an owner or someone who's done the hard yards and researched the hell out of them, perhaps on the way to your own purchase. Which Grand Seiko Quartz would you buy, and why?

I would check citizen chronomaster line too. I never held one but looking at the pictures I believe they have better dials and finishing, all of them are about the same price.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a SBGP009 but it’s the bracelet. There’s no micro adjust and in warmer climates my wrist size varies throughout the day.

·

I had 44gs heritage black dial absolutely loved it thin shiny seconds hand on point to the beat but it was that wide a space to scratch and I mean the wind marked it these things should be in glass cases in art galleries,so I was very afraid to change or get battery changed sounds silly I know and wasn't about losing money just didn't want to ruin the shine 🤣

Mine… i I feel sexy everytime I wear it … I’m not sexy without it…

I have the sbgx261 and it’s fantastic. The bracelet is very comfortable and I don’t miss micro adjustments. Very accurate and very light due to the quartz movement. 37mm of no nonsense perfection for me.

Currently saving up to get that one at some point next year. It really is the definition of understated watch!

I have the SBGP001. I love the 44GS case and this is about the easiest (least expensive) way to get at it. The blued seconds hand is a nice touch and I've been very happy with this. I was initially looking at the smaller 37mm models but glad I went with this since the case shape makes it for me. I have a lengthy review on here you can check out via my profile if you're interested.

For me its the GRAND SEIKO SBGX265, I have done as much research as possible and its one of the cheapest GS out there at the moment. Its not perfect as no lume, and its 37mm. I am saving up for it so by the time I get the cash it will probably be out of stock !

Any, "You can't go wrong with Grand Seiko" :)

9F is fantastic, after I get SBGN003 I start asking myself "Do I need other watches?"

But... I need extra one and I get SBGA407 Skyflake because Spring Drive.

And if I could I would buy SBGP017 because 44GS.

I know I want another one myself… to partner the champagne one… 🤔

I have GS Hight Beat mechanical movement watches, presently checking out the new Spring drive models but my regular GS ad who sells a lot of different watch brands from Oris to Journe says that the GS quartz watches are amazing. I trust his watch related comments without doubt.

I don't think that they have better dials and finishing -- perhaps somewhat equal, with the unique feature of washi paper dials. The advantage they do have is that their quartz movements are typically perpetual calendars with jump hour setting (GS has some quartz movements with jump hour setting, but not all, and no perpetual calendars to my knowledge), two incredibly useful complications to have on extremely accurate watches. For me, the disadvantage is that they feel very much like GS homages in style. Citizen is great, but to me they have yet to release a design that feels like an iconic Citizen (still acknowledging that they have some strong and fairly unique designs, like the Bullhead chrono, the Nighthawk, etc.).

As far as what GS quartz I would get, well, I got this one, so I guess that's the one: https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/grand-seiko-gmt-sbgn019

I would also happily get the grey beast https://www.grand-seiko.com/us-en/collections/sbgv245j

I tend to favor GS watches with "bold" cases. The dials are amazing, etc, but some of their case designs (62gs, "lion", these "tough" cases, etc.) are the real differentiators to me.

I own a current Snowflake. Love it. The dial, the build quality, the lightness, the power reserve indicator (🤣). I was aiming at a high accuracy quartz as a second but they discontinued the model I wanted and replaced it with one I don’t like. Looks like I’m waiting till they correct their mistake. 😉

I have a Chronomaster and Grand Seiko. The fit, finish, and design is quite nice, but a notch down from Grand Seiko. They're a good bit cheaper though. The movement tech is arguably better; the Chronomaster is rated to a higher accuracy, though in practice I bet they're similar (and there are reports of Chronomasters underperforming), they have perpetual calendars, and many are solar powered. Solar power, however, means they can't get as creative with their dials, since they have to let light through.

quartz doesn't work for me sorry, i will go for spring drive and should be snowflake sbga211 for the first GS :D

I love the quartz GS, but the Spring Drive are amazing, but on my budget never to be alas.

I collect japanese watches, I had a chronomaster for a while, I liked the paper dial, the finishing is definitely NOT Grand seiko level imo, The movement is maybe technologically better, but I would put my money on the 9F Grand Seiko quartz being superior in build quality the fact the 9F is built in the seikosha studio my master craftsmen in the same place as the spring drive movements, the main gripe was that it is basically a Grand seiko homage and almost the same price, I sold the chronomaster btw

Cool good to know.

The "Skyflake" is the most beautifully finished watch I've held in my hands, way better than the Rolex I have now & previously owned. Better than the Omega watches I have now.

It's a stunning watch that I don't think any other can match at it's price point.

·

Bought this one about a month ago and have hardly taken it off since. One of my favourite watches I’ve ever owned
