How many watches

How many do you aim to have in your collection? I used to be focused on having variety but I found that having more meant less appreciation of each piece. I like to keep it at 3-4 at the moment: I have the Seiko SPB143, Yema Navygra, and Sinn 556i, all pieces that are hard-wearing and perfect all-around pieces in my view.

I overshot my aim many years ago. No turning back now.

5-10. But really trying to cull to only the ones I absolutely love.

·

I'm at 10. I pretty much wear them all except for my father's Hamilton Sinclair (too vintage and small for me to comfortably wear) and my Eone Bradley, which I mainly got because I wanted to support what the company was doing via their Kickstarter. But the other 8 get a fair amount of wrist time led by two primary daily wearers.

·

My goal is to never own a watch that I don't wear. Right now I have around 6.

·

My core rotation will always be 2 or 3 max. Currently own 7 or 8, most of them just there because of sentimental values (and also won't sell more than chump change anyway).

·

Some people would prefer to say just not enough. I'm at 28.

·

Yes.
Jokes aside, I've long passed my sensible past self thinking "Oh, I just need a heavy duty, everyday and fancy time piece."

·

I think I would consistently wear 4 or 5 (only have 3 currently but saving for another). However, I‘m not one to sell watches. So my collection will more or less grow and grow over the years.

I imagine as I get new watches they will replace my core 4 or 5 and the others will get worn the odd time, bringing nostalgia and sentiment to whatever the rare occasion is!

·

I had 10 watches in my collection for quite awhile, but I would just get analysis paralysis every time I opened my watch box. I paired it down to 4 pieces that I love, got a nice little watch roll, and if i want to add to my new collection, it will be at the cost of removing a watch.

·

I have 10 watches that are in my watch box. I generally wear 5 of them. The others are budget watches I bought when I was starting out and I could probably get rid of them, but I can't bring myself to do so.

Then there's the drawer of bad watches. Some are broken, some are just wrong for me. I keep them for spares just in case. I don't know how many I have in there. I don't want to find out.

·

I wanna keep mine in 10 so I'm selling one each time I'm getting a new one. I don't know if I will be able to keep it that way in the future, so maybe I'll be back in 12 at some point.

·

I have six that I want to cut down, could easily keep adding to the collection but I want to wear them all in a constant rotation. As such, smaller collection.

i thought the correct number in your collection is always n+1?

·

How many do you aim to have in your collection?

Yes.

·

im more 6 collection watch man lol which consist of:

traditional field watch

diver watch

dress watch

chronograph watch

flieger watch

digital / quartz prefered g shock

also my watchbox has 6 slot only 😂

·

Currently have 8 in the collection with a couple of vintage watches that I keep because the have sentimental value.

My aim is to have 6 or even less. I went through a stage of just buying watch after watch and quickly realised I had accumulated just over 70 pieces, that’s ridiculous. So I slowly started selling and trading until I got to 15, I then started to really question myself, what do I really want in a watch?

And so that’s where I’m up to at this stage of my collecting.

I did slip up though last week and purchased a watch on an impulse which is out of character for me, but I’m sure it will be a keeper as I don’t own a Chronograph at the moment 👍

·

not absolutely sure, maybe 30-ish. But it is like the stock market.  No, scratch that, more like crypto. Totally unstable and anything could happen to any piece at any given time.

·

60+
I want 20-30 now. Time for the purge.

·

12 now. I'd like to have less, but I like the ones I have too much. Don't wanna sell, regret and buy again. It already happened with the Seiko Flighty.

·

Was up to seven, now down to three and much prefer it that way because they all get worn regularly.

·

There are 7 watch brands I've set myself to get 1 watch from each brand, but I also ended up buying/ getting others (currently have 10)...maybe 21 max for me. I wear them all on rotation per day

Looking over them is a bit tough already, though it's fun

·

I don't know how people stick to just 3 or 4. I mean, we all need a watch for doing laundry, one for doing yard work, one for going to church, weddings, baseball games (in case beer gets spilled on it), the office, one for kayaking, golf, etc.

Then you need a chrono, a diver, a dress watch, a minute repeater, a dead seconds, a GMT, etc.

Then you need at least one watch from every brand. Am I right? How do you guys live with just 3 or 4? Better yet, how do you make your choices? Don't you suffer from analysis paralysis? 😉

·

I believe a core of a 5 watch collection is perfect.

I have many more, primarily because of the watches I have as sentimental pieces I won't get rid of, and some Swatches.

I "completed" my 5 watch collection around 2 years ago. I have now decided to jump to the next level into a 5 Luxury Watch Collection.

·

Good question!! Tring to be budget wise but yeah....X+1

·

I went up to 23 at one point..

but since culled it’s to 6. And might even go down to 3-4.

for the moment really enjoying the ones I have and they get a lot more wrist time so pretty happy - from now on it would be 1 in - 1out.

*fingers crossed

·

I don't have a "target" number, and I'm not overly concerned with wearing all of my watches on a regular basis. Watches are one of the few collectibles that come to mind where so many collectors seem to be concerned with a need to "use" items within the collection. My collection includes 12-15 watches that I wear on a regular basis, as well as several that see little to no wrist time, but which I have simply because I find them interesting or unique.

·

I only had 2 watches for a very long time. One for work and one for home. Then my "home" watch got stolen.  Replacing that watch probably got me started on buying/collecting watches. I'm now on 7 , but there is about 5 on the shopping list. I don't know where it will end.

·

I currently have 12 in my collection. That is after selling 5 or so in the last few months. With a couple of exceptions, once I don't wear a watch anymore I am most likely going to sell it to someone who will.

·

All I'm looking to add at this point is a tough vintage-inspired diver and a versatile luxury grail once I figure out what my grail is 😅 that'll put me at 7

·

I currently have 41 watches after 3 years of buying, selling, trading. 17 are vintage pieces that are for special occasions and collection curating. 3 are family or gifts including my Great grandfather's 1926 Elgin pocket watch. The rest I do rotate through the rest for the month.
