Do you use the date complication on your automatic watch?

I like to have it on digital watches, but to be honest, it annoys me on automatic watches because I have to keep setting it after every time I let the watches run down. What about you? Is having the correct date important or not?

The often check the watch for the date more than the time.

·

If it’s there, I use it.

·

Yup, all the bloody time. Often check the day on my smart watch too

Me too, and especially when someone asks "when will you go/come/do this..." I always look at my watch to know the current date and people are generally surprised or don't understand 😅

I stopped at one day/date automatic. It's a real nuisance but I find it easier to keep the thing running that futz with the setting, and risk getting the AM/PM wrong so that the date is wrong halfway through the day.

. Quartz modules exist for many reasons, and the ability to keep a calendar on schedule till the next manual adjustment is one of them.

·

I use the date indicator more than actually checking the time, but I think most brands need to work on making it look good. It just seems like a last second afterthought haphazardly placed on a dial on many watches.

·

Rarely ever set the date, so I don't miss it if it isn't there.

·

Yep, I have to set the date if it's there. It's why I don't like "true" GMTs because without a quick set date, if they run out of power in my box, I would almost rather wait until the date comes back to being correct againthan slowly wind the hour hand 2 rotations for each day.

·

E - this is why I own watch winders

That's why I set the day/date one day prior and then just rotate the time around until it clicks over. Takes like 10 seconds longer, but never have to worry about am/pm.

I look for the date on my watch everyday at some point, and always miss it when there’s no date. I can do without a day complication though.

·

Because of my profession I find it very useful to have the date complication on a watch. However, I’ve recently been looking into acquiring a BB54 and I think I could just use my phone to look at the date if need be. I’m sure I’d miss the date for awhile but eventually you’d get used to it’s absence on a watch.

·

I said no because I own a phone …. I love a good day date or date but I’m very selective where and what . If its my favourite ALS Odysseus ( Grail ) for example, yes otherwise I like clean uncluttered dials . If it’s got a complication my OCD says it has to be set !! To be clear if I peg clothes on the clothes line the pegs have to be the same colour as each other on each garment being pegged ( clearly I am a neat freak ) this carries over into my watch choices and settings 😂 😆 😝

·

I’ll set it with an automatic but leave it on a quarter. Primarily because I can barely see it. With the automatic I just do it simultaneously after I set the time. Ultimately, I don’t care about it because it is difficult to see.

·

Yes, but still hates cyclops magnifiers 😅😅

·

“If a complication exists it must get used” is exactly why every GMT watch in my collection ends up getting flipped in short order. I love the idea and often times the looks of GMT watches, but my family only lives 1 time zone over so it is fast for me to do the mental math than adjust my brain to read a 24 hour dial, I don’t travel that often, and when I do it is on vacation and I don’t care what the time is back home

·

Most date complications look like design afterthoughts; mushed in or look out of place. Some date complications just stand out more than is needed especially with a cyclops. I can understand why you need a date complication on a GMT, but not on a dive watch? With all that said I do set the date if the complications exists, but I wish more of my watches were simply “no dates”.

·

12 watches in my collection, 10 have a date completion. I don’t wear the two that don’t and I won’t buy one anymore that doesn’t have it.

·

Unfortunately, its 100% "D" for me. I don't see the tiny date windows without my reading glasses and I don't like cyclops magnifiers. It's the same reason why I don't like silver hands on white dials - I just can't read the time most of the time 😂

It's time for varifocal glasses 😎

·

On an everyday watch, I find it very useful. The date may not be correct on my other watches..

That's why I looked at winders too but I already collect watches and straps which are each getting a little out of hand. I'm worried if I start collecting winders (fancy to cheap like the other things I collect), it will really get out of control. Plus, some of the nicer quality winders cost as much as some of the watches on my list.

·

I only got one date-mechanical and it's quick set. I hardly ever wear it but when I do it's never a pain.

·

I'm always checking the date...probably more than the time, actually. And honestly, I need the day complication more than anything...seems I never know what day of the week it is!

·

I'm good with or without date, but if I don't want to mess with the date then I'll wear one of my watches that are no date. Otherwise, unless it's a vintage watch that doesn't have quickset date, I'll always make sure the date is properly set. Now moon phase is a whole different question. 😉

Ah, my pet hate. Despise any date complications, completely & utterly useless for anyone with a functional memory. Maybe have it hidden on the back to check once a day for those that need it 😂

Particularly hate it on Diver's, practically the definition of "chocolate teapot".

I appreciate some folks like 'em, my gripe against the whole industry is why not release 2 versions? How difficult would it be not to cut a date window & print/apply an extra index? I'm sure they'd sell more...

The date on a Dive watch is not for telling the date while Subsea but for the same reason you have a date on any other watch, It's useful.

Back in the day non date Divers were very un popular until the bulk of these watches were bought by desk Divers (which I now am)who have a date on a PC screen in front of them and now they are very in voque. 5 digit ND Subs used to collect dust in AD windows.

Even if you are the most avid Diver and wear a dive watch 24/7 the majority of the time the watch will be dry so a date complication is not a diving a feature but a quality of life feature, especially if living an active lifestyle away from tech.

I do agree a no date watch the vast majority of the time looks better, it's always nice to have the choice between the 2.

I understand that dates sell more watches, but I can't see why. It's a complication that's genuinely useful only once per day.... surely folks memories aren't that bad 🤯

Just wish there was more of a choice tbh.

Thank you for your comment

Well I don't know about anyone else but I am always forgetting the date lol

I do have a couple of ND Divers and I 100% agree they look better but I do catch myself often looking to see the date and then realising it ain't there 😄

I wish more watches would put it at the 6 as IMHO its a much better implimantation of it.

Yeah, 6 looks so much better 👍🏻👍🏻

All my watches have date windows. My OCD will drive me mad if the dates are wrong. I want to buy a 3 hand no date watch so I can just set and go. Then maybe I'll instinctively check the date later in the week and not finding it. My problem is I have too many watches.

·

At first I thought it was kinda annoying to set it everytime bc I don’t wear it every day, but then I realised it like an extra moment to appreciate my watch and to give it more love. Nevertheless, I don’t have many day/dates options in my extense wishlist lol
