Do you think your collection is too big, too small, or just the right size?

My current collection consists of 12 watches. There is an additional G-Shock and a Citizen that I don't keep in the watch box. Out of the 12, only 5 get regular wear. the Tuna, Aerospace, Sinn, Seamaster and a G-Shock Square (not pictured), and the Alpinist and Seiko SZSB006 get occasional wear. All that being said, I think 10 is a good number for a collection, so therefore I think my collection is too big. Don't get me wrong I really have no plans to downsize what I have, and there are a couple watches that I still want to get. I mean come on there is no reason to what any of us do anyway. I am interested to see what you think about the overall size of your collection.

I have 10 watches so far. I don't see why it should go down 😎

Still, I have sold a few that I don't wear enough/enjoy enough. Maybe at one point I'll reach a number of watches where I feel like I can't give them enough wristime as I'd like, but I haven't reached that number yet 😜

Can't stop, won't stop. No such thing as addiction, just quitters

·

I have 16 in my Collection currently & they all get wrist time. So wouldn't hurt to have some more... right ??? 😜

·

27 total to my name. 10 in rotation and 5 others get sporadic wrist time.

·

Currently sitting at 50 with one on the way and three others ordered. I'm a dirty double wrister so rotation isn't an issue. Looking to expand the collection into pocket watches, mantel clocks, and long cases.

I like the way you think.

I guess I'm buying forever then.

I've only heard about you guys as some kind of fantasy. I don't know what to do with myself now that I know you are real.

my mind is broken

My collection is one watch short of perfect, just like it was before I bought my last watch.

Truer words have never been said.

·

I have 4. I’d like to get up to around 7-8.

You are a lost soul. High five you. 😂

My primary collection is set at 9. I think the reason many people question watches place in their collection is ‘wrist time’. I’ll cheerfully admit that there is no attempt on my part to equally wear my watches. Part of the goal of setting up my collection was to have a watch for every occasion. So there are some watches that aren’t going to get equal wear time because I rarely have a formal occasion to attend, or job interview. While my sportier watches get more wrist time by far, every watch in the collection has a purpose that it fulfills. I found that 9 was the proper minimum for me to have exactly what I wanted, a fine watch for every occasion.

·

Honestly don't know how many I have in total. I've "some" not regularly worn that need to go, "some more" that get worn occasionally & "keepers".

TLDR- have too many , want less but higher quality / more focused

·

I thought my collection was too big after it hit 4 watches and still think so now that it has more than doubled in size (not that it seems to influence my watch buying activity/ maybe this is a sickness).

·

I have many and won't stop buying ones that excite me and in my budget. Its just right.

·

At 12, gave away 6 last year. Only one was worth anything, but such a hassle to sell. I’m still only wearing about 3 of them 90% of the time and one of those 3 probably 60% of the time. I’d like to get down to 5.

·

Well, Just right apart from.... 3-4 additions then I'm Done I swear 😂

·

Currently at 9 in the collection. It's a good spot to be. I don't stick to a strict number of watches in the collection but it seems to usually float between 8-12 watches.

·

At 6, honestly I could do with less. But that's in hindsight- I only know I would like to experience different and less watches because I have owned these 6 watches.

Honestly, I think 5 is a good sweet spot. I just don’t know if I could get down to that.

I also have a watch box with a 12-watch capacity. Plus, some other watches. I actively wear about nine in a constant rotation. I like the flexibility that gives me.

I do see these 30, 40, 50...100+ collections and it boggles my mind. Two questions: 1) Can you possibly appreciate them all at that point? And, 2) At what point does 'collecting' morph into hoarding?

IMO the people with very large numbers of watches are the collectors. I consider myself an enthusiast, not a collector. They want to have them, just to have them and that’s fine as well.

·

I, as well, would consider myself an enthusiast. I'm enthusiastic about what I know I have...and I wear on a fairly consistent basis. Again, just my thought, but at what level / quantity do you even know what you have anymore? I didn't ask the original question.

The original question was, "Do you think your collection is too big, too small, or just the right size?"

He's asking and he has twelve watches. I'm very close to that and I can appreciate each one.

I have three watches right now. One sub $1k watch that i use as a beater (sometimes) and two watches between $1,500 and $3,000 that I consider my two watch collection. I think of a perfect collection being between 5-7 watches to rotate with a few beaters or sentimental pieces that don't exactly count towards the collection.

I plan on slowly accumulating a collection that goes something like the list below. 3 years in without an impulse purchase so I think I'm on a good pace. I have the GADA and Everyday Sport categories down so far. Looking for the Everyday or Dedicated Dress to be purchased in the next year or two. Obviously these categories can collide and even change. The Everyday dress might end up being the dedicated dress and so on. Just an ideology I'm not holding myself to anything. anything I'm missing?

GADA

Everyday Sport

Everyday Dress

Dedicated Sport

Dedicated Dress

High Complication

Precious Metal

It looks like you got all of your bases covered. I think after 3 years of no impulse buys you are on your way to build the focused collection you want.

what is the plus 1? The 4 you have there are pretty solid.

By most standards my collection would be considered too large. I think it very much reflects my interests and time in the hobby.

·

I voted just right but I’ve got a couple I wouldn’t miss and at least one more I’d like to get.

·

Never enough baby 😂
