Rolex secondary market prices are dropping, do you care?

Now that Rolex prices in the secondary markets are falling, with some models at or even below retail, does this change your interest in purchasing a Rolex? Which Rolex would interest you the most? If not, which watch would you look to purchase instead?

I want the Paul Newman Daytona or a 1958 Milgauss with a honeycomb dial. Waiting for the price to drop a little further though.

#goals Let me know how that works out, can't wait for the NWA post 😂

Not really all that interested. Imagine celery was rare, and you had to pay a premium to obtain celery. It still wouldn't change that I don't like it. From a design perspective a Rolex will always be my "father's watch", no matter how old I am.

E- Offers more consideration of Rolex models that might be of interest.

E: Yes - because now the majority of flippers and investment bros have been flushed out of the watch industry on the whole

While I would agree, the post pandemic shift from purchasing luxury goods to experiences is still ongoing.

·

No. I have what I want from them so I'm not in the market

True, and to be expected, but it's not as insane/over hyped and has largely normalized out. With some exceptions, of course.

Same. I own the one Rolex I really think is outstanding - and while the rest of the Rolex catelogue is totally great, I am not actively seeking to acquire any of them.

·

Nope.

Unless I find a good deal on a fixed milsub down the road, don't particularly care anymore.

·

The interest is still there, but the money is long gone. 😂🤣 perhaps, that's the reason prices will continue going down.

·

I find it interesting how the secondary market prices follow the principles of stock-market technical analysis. The price went parabolic, which is of course meant that the market was over-bought which always leads to the bubble breaking and a period of market correction.

·

I don’t think I‘ll ever want to own a Rolex, simply because of the stigma attached to the brand. At least here in Germany people might perceive you negatively if they notice you‘re wearing one. So even in the price range Rolex is in, I would rather go for something more under the radar.

That said, I can’t afford one yet anyway, and I don’t like to say never.

So I‘d vote for option E: not interested in Rolex at the moment 😉

·

I do care. Because the drop will drain the silly hype from the market. And make it easier to buy at retail. I'm still waiting on my Sub.

·

I want prices to go back up because I bought this from the AD. I will never sell but I will feel much cooler the higher prices go 😂

·

I’m interested to see where this goes, and I am enjoying the schadenfreude

·

ADs is the way to go for me. Not just because the price is at msrp, but also the buying experience when you pick up the watch.

Hope to get a Batman GMT one day. 👌

The vast majority of people - even 'watch people' - don't have any serious thoughts on Rolex as they either don't have the money for them, or do have the money but find the watches completely overrated/completely overpriced/whatever their reasoning may be. So, as for what's happening on 'the market', I don't think most people could give a flying one.

I think you are totally right. I would add those with money see better alternatives to Rolex at the current retail, and definitely, secondary market prices. JLC and Glashütte Original make compelling options that can attract buyers/collectors with Rolex level money.

They're certainly less cliche watches to wear, too. So there's that.

That and the yacht master Ti are just excellent recent releases

·

Rolex subs are almost at retail price, so it’s a yay for me!

·

I am mostly interested in 5 digits. So I do hope that most of the modern range becomes available in ad cases so regular buyers move on to a modern one so prices can came closer to what it was in 2018-19.

·

Idk anything about specific Rolex issue numbers, nor do I need one (I don’t mind them but the allure isn’t there for me, but ofc it varies!) as they’re very expensive, but I’m glad the prices are going down!

From what I’ve heard, Rolex makes waaay too many watches to claim to be artificially scarce and puts you through a very inefficient, idiotic method of purchasing with store credit and buying extra and extra long waitlists and whatnot.

i see this as streamlining the process for those who wan’t one but don’t want to wait two years or pander to an AD!

A return to their more “affordable” (lol the irony is there) roots

·

E- Makes no difference, but it’s nice to see some models more attainable now. I’ve already got every model I want at retail so I’m not in the market.

·

You forgot E - Neither here nor there

·

I need to add option E. Can't afford one anyway.

·

I don't think the % drop on most models has been significant enough to suddenly open up the market to buyers who couldn't afford them before.

We're not seeing SS professional Rolex for Tudor money.

If you couldn't afford a £12k sub a year or 2 ago, you probably also aren't going for a £9k sub now.

·

I only pay retail I wouldn’t buy a sub for 1 dollar more than retail myself out of principle. But the same goes for anything. I walked into a subway and the 5$ foot long was 6.50 so I bounced

Same I have got my 3 Rolex now I am sitting back to relax and chill although I would probably take a Daytona if they call me
