Have you ever bought the same watch in a different color? (a mechanical watch model at $800+ USD)

I'm looking at buying same watch in a different color. It feels like duplication, when I could have a entirely different watch. Some ground rules, - mechanical and not-plastic - $800+ (USD equivalent) - different color, not exact same watch as back-up - concurrently owned, not a replacement for an old model - exact model, not model variant in different color (eg. speedmasters). - exclude prx or gshocks (I know you guys love to collect them all but looking at the general mechanical watches) - bought new, new with discount, or grey market. Exclude 2nd hand. It's the kind of thing where a non-watch enthusiast's partner would say, "so, you bought same watch?", with a "but, but... it's a different color!" response. What are your thoughts?

I was going to say no. Then I realized I have two #swatch #moonswatch

At least for me, I find strap changes sufficient 😂I’m not in a financial state to luxuriate in multiple dials at the moment 😅

I love it. "Which colour would you like?", "Yes". GS collection is amazing!

Admittedly, that's how I buy clothes. Although I'm tempted by other colour variations of the Wise Adamascus AD7 (the 904L steel models came out right after I had ordered mine), it would be way too boring considering I'm planning to buy about one watch per year.

An awesome duo. That green is certainly worth going back for!

I feel it's indulgent too, hence the poll. Yep, a quick strap change is enough to jazz up watch.

Funny thing is I also wear pretty much the same style just different colors so I kinda know why I like and don’t like so I stick to what works for me and by just adding different colors makes it work best!! 😁

Qualified no. I've done it for less than $400/watch, but not greater than $800.

I think it’s one of the final steps for a collector in many ways. Obviously there are numerous ways to enjoy the watch hobby but what I see with very seasoned experienced collectors is that in the end they end up trying to get multiple versions of that 1 watch they love. Like Daytona collectors, Patek 5004 collectors etc. Personally I love the optimum and waiting to get another one.

Let me throw back the qn at you. Would you rather buy a model you like in 2 different colours you like or buy one and force yourself to get a different model to 'discover' and then sell it at loss 🤣

There's never a compulsion ("force yourself") to buy a watch. "Discover" to me is the search, and research. I wouldn't buy another model I didn't absolutely like. I tend to ponder a watch for at least few months to years, then keep. I've never sold a watch.

I have not but I sure do want the blue Tudor FXD.

Sometimes the dial color/pattern makes the look different enough to warrant the purchase even if the case and bracelet remain the same.

Different is different no matter how small. For some, that is enough to make the purchase 😁

·

Oh yeah. I have the Alpinist GMT with the silver dial that I liked so much I ended up getting the green dialed version too.

I like my SJE101 Marinemaster so much I'm seriously considering getting the silver LE version.

·

Yes, multiple times, but all don't fall under your ground rules.

·

Guilty as charged!

·

No, but some watches I would like to get more than one colour!

·

This habit started off with outfits. I would buy the same outfits in all of the colors available. Then I noticed I needed to buy watches to match the outfits 🤯😂🤣

Not sure if it counts but 2 Moonswatch's. And 2 Blaincpain Swatch - although technically the 2nd one is worn by the wifey.😁

·

I bought two Yema Superman after I managed to convince myself that they are not actually the same watch.

Seiko alpinist, both the green and the dark jeans blueish color. And sold both😅😅

Yes i have and i wonder why Ha Ha Ha Ha! 🤪

·

Yes. I loved my first Seamaster in black/Sedna gold so much all around that I decided to buy a second exact in blue. Love them both, and if Omega did it in white/Sedna (especially white/blue bezel as opposed to white/black bezel):I’d buy that also.
