Has the overexposure of a watch (by "enthusiasts") ever put you off buying?

You've sat on a watch purchase, but over time you lost that loving feeling for that watch. Has it ever been due to overexposure of the watch by "enthusiasts"? e.g. Too much exposure of watch on enthusiast youtube channels?, too many posts of watch on WRUW? Overzealous fanboyism for that watch/brand? over exposed on socials (eg. Instagram)? NOTE: this is NOT brand's own advertising or marketing. It is overexposure due to enthusiasts. This is not a takedown. Maybe more a compliment, as the brand is likely championed for being good at what it does. Maybe a victim of own success, as you were. Has there been any time in past, where enthusiasts have put off a watch purchase?

Yes, sick of every YouTuber constantly ramming the whole Bland Bay range down our throats. Was ambivalent to them, but after the decade long constant barrage of blandness I hate 'em with a passion. 😅

The Black Bay and PRX have definitely suffered from overexposure. When a million people tell me how great something is, I find it less and less appealing.

Yep.

Every time I read some over-caffeinated fanboy raving about how [insert brand here]'s watch is "the best watch in the world EVER!" any desire I may have had for it dies just a little bit more.

Yes, absolutely. The whole regurgitated Genta "Emperor's New Clothes" is very boring now too.

I didn't want to put the name of my "[insert brand here]'s" into the post, in fear of triggering any watch cult.

Rolex have no desire to own one anymore 😪integrated bracelet watches like lots of them but just too much too many, baby blue or Tiffany blue, swatch collabs.👍

·

PRX!

·

Eh, due content saturation no, but I have chosen at times alternative watches to popular watches in collections, ex. Hamilton Khaki Auto.

·

PRX 🤢

The overexposure to a few models has definitely lead to "Rolex fatigue", or any other watch with the same following (integrated bracelets, moonswatch...). At this point, I don't even register them anymore and keep scrolling. 🙄

·

Not really. I wanted the PRX when it first came out, but smaller and in quartz. And that is what I got. I'm still quite happy with it, and rather amused by the hype that came and left.

Tudor Black Bay collection is everywhere. They are good watches, but there's plenty of other good watches/brands that are forgotten over a Black Bay X or Y.

Feels like Black Bay is the only option.

·

No, because I buy watches for me. What someone else says, whether they own the watch or not, love it or hate it, has no impact on me and my enjoyment.

PRX

I lost complete interest in Tudor and especially BB58
