Budget watches everyone should have?

I want to see what everyone thinks is a watch there are no downsides to adding to your collection.

Show me a watch that you own that Is so affordable there is no financial barrier to picking up, and is so good at what it does that owning one is a no brainier for every collector!

My picks would be:

The casio F-91w

All the watch anyone could ever need for less than the cost of a meal deal

Image

Addiesdive mechaquartz 36mm

Reliable, accurate, sweeping quartz movement in an immaculately finished case with a beautiful dial for £50

When I started writing this post I thought I'd have at least 5 of my watches to put here but being honest with myself and picking them apart, these 2 were the only ones I could think of a single downside to!

I'm picking this Casio G Shock GW-M5610U-1BER. You can get it for about 100€ and it has everything you need. You have an alarm, timer, stopwatch and you can view all the timezones there are. And it does all this while being indestructible. Truly a God tier watch!

And make it a Timex chronograph! Everyone needs at least one chronograph. I have 3!

I have a case full of budget watches so must-haves are, the two u presented. Then, I would add Timex Expedition Titanium North and a GShock DW5600e to round out the budget quartet.

Deep sea hunter? I would call it Arrakis. Or Dune.

This ran through my head first time I saw it - it looks like sand, and if you have read Dune, you automatically go there!

Around this time last year I made the decision to start a collection, this was my first choice.

Glycine Combat Sub, at market prices, not list (and save a few bucks to change the strap out)

For me I love a good value. I find it difficult to buy into the hype of fashion watches, when I could get a watch for me better in quality and value. Below is a few of my pieces I felt was a good value.

I’d disagree with the Seikos, they seem to have blown out of proportion pricewise now but agree with the Timex!

I heartily recommend that you first take a look at the SNXS79 and SNKL41 first hand before ruling them out in your estimation. Visit a nearby retailer or AD and take a look. You may be pleasantly surprised. :)

You can also ask other Crunchers re. their experience. I'm sure they will be able to give you an honest appraisal, and expound further on why they got these pieces despite a slightly higher price. Ask @nytime and @GeorgeJ re. the SNXS79, and @oakenlander re. the SNKL41.

Re. the price, I got mine in 2021 for $85-90 each. Nowadays, many online sellers peg prices high to get a big profit given these are discontinued models. So, I understand your thought that prices seem to have been blown out of proportion. That's why I recommended visiting a nearby retailer or AD instead, as they will not jock up the prices exorbitantly.

Ah that’s what I meant. The classic Seiko 5s are like $110-$140 now back from $90 new on Amazon just two years ago!

Like legitimately, the Seiko SNK805 went from $89 new to $110 on Amazon in one day and is ~$180 now!!!

You already called out the F91w, so I'll add any G Shock square. The perfect beater and sports watch with dual time, it's up for tackling any project, trip, or adventure.

Image

The Timex Expedition. It's the cheapest functional field watch you can own. It's capable up to 50m of water resistance, quartz and therefore shock resistant, and perfectly understands the field watch aesthetic assignment. Plus you get the benefit of Indiglo.
