🚨First Rolex NWA🚨 But I can’t wear it.😩

🚨🚨NWA🚨🚨 - First Rolex alert!!! This post is NOT ANYTHING like I thought it would be and it’s a long one, so buckle in. Let me tell you the story of acquiring my first Rolex grail piece. I’ve had my eye on the Rolex GMT-Master II in Oystersteel and Everose (or as many of you know it as the “Rootbeer”) for many years. I tend to find myself drawn to watches that are slightly off the beaten path, and the Rootbeer has a warmer depth to it than most other Rolex models. That warmth is something I’ve found myself gravitate to across all watch brands.

Eventually I decided that it was time to find a reputable AD and put my name down and wait for my Rolex grail. Without giving away too much, I wanted to make a big deal of my first Rolex experience because I have big upcoming plans to kick off a new venture in the watch industry. I wanted to shoot a lot of footage and pictures etc. in order to tell the story in great detail.

Fast forward to Thursday, February 8th (two days ago). I get “THE CALL” from my authorized dealer that my Rolex is ready for me. I’m ELATED. I’m panicked. I’m over the moon. I make arrangements to pick it up the next day.

Thursday night I fell down the stairs and broke my hand. MY WATCH HAND! The freaking day before I pick up my first Rolex and I’m in the hospital at midnight with bruises, breaks, and had to put a temporary cast on. Aside from not being able to pick up my kids, THERE IS NOTHING ON EARTH WORSE THAN NOT BEING ABLE TO TRY ON YOUR FIRST ROLEX.

So what now? Do I wait to buy it? Do I let someone else take it? Or do I stumble my way to the store?

I’m Timepiece Tango. I’m tougher than any mother f’er out there and I’m not about to let  misfortune ruin my big moment. So yesterday, drugged up on pain meds and sore as hell, my AWS buddy John drove me to Mayors to pick up my Rolex. I was met with open arms by my AD buddies D, Les, and the Atlanta Watch Society godfather himself, Giancarlo. It was a bittersweet moment for me. It wasn’t how I planned it out, but being able to go on this journey with friends and having a great story is something I’ll always remember.

Thank you to all my followers and friends for joining me on my watch journey. Thanks for enlightening me, encouraging me, and sharing this incredible hobby with me.

So now the countdown begins. I still have to have surgery on my hand and will be in a cast for likely 6 weeks. Please stick around, because I will have something in store for you all when this cast comes off. 😁

Wow! But also WOW! Jeez. But listen: Congrats 🍾 that is a gorgeous watch and your right wrist will be happy to oblige you. In sympathy I just switched my AT to my right wrist. Now … wear that Rootbeer in good health and enjoy it. 🙌🏻👊🏻👊🏻

Cheers mate!

·

That is the definition of irony. I guess you could have the watch put on a NATO strap and wear it over the cast. Option two would be to wear it in the opposite hand temporarily.

·

Speedy recover sir! That is why we are born with two wrists. :-)

·

Talk about the worst timing.

Heal quick!

·

Get well soon !

·

Time for a Nato. I would use duct tape if I had to. 🤣🤣🔥👍

·

Sorry for your misfortune. 😔

At the same time, congratulations on your good fortune of getting that call! 🎉

I’m not a Rolex guy but that rootbeer is glorious! 😍

Heal quick!

·

I’d break my finger for a Batman 🔵😂

Congrats

·

Get well soon, at least you know you already have a beautiful watch. Congrats!

·

Congratulations and sorry for your accident but it will be all the sweeter when you do get to wear it.

·

Congrats and speedy recovery! I was once told you take the bad with the good and there is always a bad. In this case this seems to have been prepaid so you are now free and clear! 😜

I keep telling myself that as I managed to put a small dent on my 1 minute old brand new Sub at the AD trying it on forgetting I had another watch on, I had just swiped the credit card too...LOL oh well it is supposed to be a tool watch right? That did hurt though.

·

Great watch.

Those small hand bones are very painful when broken. I feel for you.

·

Ask the AD for like 8 extra links and put that over the cast 😎🫡

·

hope you make a quick recovery my hands are my livelihood ,

·

Ha! Congrats. I broke the same bone 20 years ago on tour when my bandmate at the time swung his bass behind him at a show and and the headstock collided into my hand. I looked down and just kind of had…a dent. Also had to have surgery but thankfully not on my watch wearing wrist 😆

Hope you enjoy that Rolex once you’re healed up! FYI if I remember correctly my wrist size and mobility was impacted for a bit after the pins were removed and cast came off. So save those extra links when you size the bracelet…

How unfortunate … but hell of a story for that classy purchase 🤩

·

Great story. IMO a far better experience than what you had imagined, even considering the drama, because it’s real life and you made the right decision. This is a hell of a story to tell in years to come.

Congrats 👏🏼

·

Well, that's one way to make an entrance! Huge congratulations on your new Rootbeer, and I wish you a swift recovery!

·

Congratulations on your gorgeous watch 😍😍😍

Nobody?! Ok; Speedy! 😄

OUCH! Breaking your arm. Total bummer. Congrats on teh watch. I still await mine but think I am next in line at B&C. BTW, looks like you went to the the Lenox Mayors. 😉

Anyway, Atlanta has a watch society now? WOW. That slipped by somehow. I've considered trying to start one for years but I'm not much of a spark plug when it comes to clubs.

Went to their WEB page, filled out a membership form but they want social media accounts? We'll see what happens as WatchCrunch is the only social media account I currently have so I listed that twice. My Facebook account got deep sixed the start of 2010's when Facebook first got in trouble with the public and millions of people closed their accounts, myself included. I had a Twitter account but if it still exists, it has not made a post in over a decade and a half.

Oh well, We'll see if they accept my membership. If not, I'm not going to re-establish account(s) just to join them. Facebook, Instagram, Tic Tok, X, etc., all BS, not worth the time spent looking at them. Not so with WatchCrunch.

·

Suck it up, get extra links and wear it over the cast 😎🤘

Get well soon buddy! Sorry to hear about the bittersweet ordeal

·

Be honest, did you get drunk due to the excitement and that is what caused the fall? Get well soon and congratulations!

·

Hope you enjoy the watch soon. Congrats!!

·

You have a right wrist. Use it 😉😁

·

I’d be more than happy to provide a temporary home for the watch while you heal.

·

Love that you Went to the AD. And did not pass it up

·

No worries my friend, larger than normal wrist is a problem already solved years ago.

Just wear it on the cast.

Get well soon!
