Worst time for “the call”

Got the call from my AD today for a 36mm OP but had to pass on it for the mere fact that I just spent a ton of money on some unforeseen circumstances AND my wedding next week. Passing on it in itself gave me anxiety but I think it also shows self control at the same time. Anyone else ever been in this position?

Ahhh. I feel bad for you. You should have just bought it and flipped it 😅

·

You made the right decision. Purchasing a watch should never be the cause of financial distress.

I considered it for maybe 3 seconds. Then thought that the next person shouldn’t have to pay more than what I paid for me to make a quick buck. I used to be heavy into sneakers and hated the people who would buy a shoe just to flip it with no intent on actually enjoying it. I know people do it all the time but it’s just not the person I am.

·

Hundred percent the right decision. If you bought it you’d have even more anxiety. You’ll get the opportunity again, just wasn’t meant to be.

·

Ummm think the wedding is the wiser choice…don’t look back

·

I did the same once, and was met with serious attitude from the salesperson. It made me feel better about the ordeal, they can kick rocks with the BS games they play coupled with that attitude

·

Although that is a beautiful piece you made the right choice. Your priorities are else where. I passed on a two tone Datejust and I still got the call for the Wimbledon. Don’t sweat it, times have changed. AD’s can’t play the same games anymore. If your a regular at that location then they’ll call you again. Trust me.

·

Yep….expressed interest in Rolex datejust 41 blue motif /fluted/jubilee…..expecting a long wait…..THREE WEEKS later the CALL ….had put the money into my business (emergency) ….ffs …now it’s discontinued 🤦‍♂️

·

Should have 🐬

·

Good man - you have your priorities straight! More importantly I hope you have a great wedding and best of luck for the future! Congratulations 🥂

·

The pink?

·

Couldn't you have postponed the wedding until a more convenient time? 😁

·

A watch shouldn't ever be a priority, wize decision.

·

You’re flexing my favorite. Think of this way… if you bought it before the wedding it would not be community property and exempt from any future divorce settlements.

·

It’s a marathon not a sprint💪

·

Sorry to hear that! That being said, you made the right decision—temperance is a virtue!

·

Nope.

·

Sometimes the timing is just bad...... In my case I have a credit card for just those times 😂😂 😭😭

·

Beautiful Pink OP. I love it.

·

Life happens. Don't beat yourself up about it. It's all good.

·

It was the logical choice and good self control on your part. 🫡

These things are cursed, I tell ya. The day I picked this up, our furnace failed later that night. We froze for a weekend before we could have a new furnace installed Monday morning.

But my wife was surprised and ecstatic coming home to this with no idea that it had come in after a 2-1/2 year wait.

Very similar. Put my name down for a Batman as a wedding watch. Didnt expect it to come through, so I jumped on an opporunity to get a SLGA007 as a wedding gift (from wife to me)

But then the very next week I got the call… and I couldn’t say no…so I got that too!

·

Good choice! 🤙

·

How long had you been waiting?

How long had you been waiting?

Between 3-4 months. I was was hoping to get the call by the end of June.

·

Flip????

·

Oh yes and, yes, it hurt my ego at the time but I don't regret it in the long term. Making a significant purchase such as for a Rolex should not be done if it puts one in a financial predicament.

·

I've think you screwed up, when the Rolex Gods give you the call, you answer... It would have been a perfect wedding gift to commemorate a major milestone...

OP is the most affordable thing you can get from Rolex and they all sell above retail in used condition... Now in reality I would not want to own or wear that pink one, but it does command a big price, almost double MSRP... you could have sat on it for a year while they get you something good like Polar, GMT, or Sub, Datejust 41.

Unless you really wanted that pink dial as a keeper???

Then you could have sold it and made enough to buy the Polar or Sub and kept a good profile and relationship with the AD and not angered the Rolex Gods by being a flipper
