Man….somewhat let down 😩😫

So the Kamasu just came in…..after watching all these reviews I was thinking this thing will be simply elegant and sharp! But….when I got it and took it out The dial in the dark looks almost purple-ish, and purple is my least favorite color. Also, the red dial is really nice in the sun but the indices are kind of yellow and the bezel black looks really cheap, along with the really shiny silver on the coin edge, so, all in all, I would say that this watch is OK. having a sapphire Crystal is awesome and the lume is amazing but for me, it just didn’t click and I was surprised.

Anyhow, I ordered it off of Amazon from the warehouse, but it’s on its way back, so it will probably be on the website soon if y’all want it. Going for $212. 🍻

At 200$ this level of finishing is expected

·

Thats why i try my best to buy from store, unless its a watch i already tried from a friend or something.

I had an eye on this before but reading this was the sign i needed to forget about it 😅

Maybe, I’ve done better

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You explored the option and it was not for you - nothing lost being able to return it, aside from expected enjoyment. Alas, this is life.

Sure you will find some that hits the mark in the new year.

·

Had a smiliar experience with the orient ray 2 many many years ago. Did all the research and bought it over an SKX009. Few months of ownership and I never really connected with it. Sold it off and the SKX replaced it immediately.

·

Yeah, all the hype for this brand is starting to result in expectations that just are not going to be met.

Is it a decent watch in the price point? Yes.

Is it the best watch in the price point? No, but the way people bang on about it, new buyers kind of expect it to be.

A lesson here for us...

·

It's one of those things where if you were expecting a piece of shit you would have been pleasantly surprised, but unfortunately you already had it on a pedestal which often has been the downfall to a lot of watches for me. I can't tell you how disgusted I was with my first Vostok. I had to reset my expectations and revisit it from a different POV.

At the end of the day it's subjective as to how much value a certain watch holds. Forums and reviews can only provide concensus opinion - and consequently, as they say: "Mileage may vary". To me the Kamasu is near the top of it's price point - and I wear my green varient as often as my Omegas.

·

It looks beautiful to me honestly!!

·

I also fell into the hype of the Kamasu when I started collecting and was left disappointed. This watch made me realise I hated crown guards, the bezel was hard to turn to the point that it hurts my hand using it and the bracelet was uncomfortable to wear. I sold it to a friend

I had a black one, really liked it.

That’s the exact one I had too. I think it being a blacked out watch and my only one at the time contributed to me getting rid of it. Just wasn’t my thing for an every day wear.

Yeah I get what you’re saying….not on a pedestal, but just expecting more….

Ordered this with thee same purchase and honestly it’s much better built. Bezel clicks so much better and the Lume is better.

That’s a great point. We need to make sure to set the correct expectations for any watch recommendation.

·

Sorry if I was one of the bricks in the pedestal. I love mine. Hope your next purchase is a happier one!

·

Due to the usual 'influencer' BS, expectations are rarely met, especially at this price point. Thankfully you can send it back without any issue, so no money lost only knowledge gained which is win! Happy collecting 👍

·

I see what you are saying. Have it on for few days or months, you might feel different. A watch build stories, memories and feelings. No matter of price and quality I will eventually do good! Happy new year:)

·

Each to their own and all opinions are of course subjective!

I have a Mako 2, Ray 2 and the same Kamasu but in teal. Personally I love them and still think they were a bargain.

I have divers at multiple price points up to a couple of Tudors.

Pound for pound I rate orient divers above the equivalent seiko.

But like I say it's whatever works subjectively for you. I did my research and my Kamasu was in line with my expectations.

·

I had the same experience, but I bought a second Orient, this time a Star, and that is a complete different quality experience

·

Well, it’s an Orient.

You have to take that into consideration.

😉

·

Just got one for my dad (blue dial) for Chistmas. It was what I expected, except the bracelet. Was disappointed in that regard.

I’m just curious and also have good experience with Orient -I only have the M-Force, but is always sceptical when low prices and high quality goes together. Taste is individual but if you have experience bad quality I would be very happy to hear about it. If I may ask what is bad about Orient? and is the bad thing a thing for all their models?

What brand would you recommend over Orient in that segment?

My comment was more about the 'hype' surrounding the brand. There are a lot of recommendations for Orient when people ask about good watches in the sub $500 range. Some people take the volume of recommendations and turn them into expectations that the pieces can't meet.

As far as some other brands I have had good experience with, I would say Seiko, Glycine, & Sugess on the secondary market.

·

I sold my green Kamasu and never regret. Bezel action was bad, crown was small and hard to operate, winding the movement feels like rusty thing, endlinks do not fit the case, crystal was somehow the worst I ever had and lume was good on hands but poor on indices. I really like the colour of the dial thought. Kamasu is way too overhyped watch.

·

It’s a decent watch for the price point but I wouldn’t expect much better of any watch around $200.

·

This thread hurts my head. £200 watch in £200 quality shocker.

As some have alluded to, trying a watch, or at least seeing it in the flesh, is a dying art. The joy of pounding the pavement and just seeing what you can find is a pleasure many of you seem unwilling to embrace. Going forward, this is just going to become a much more sterile environment.

·

Maybe because you had ULTRA high expectations... But I followed same path (like my cars, I buy used) and bought a Blue Kamasu on Reddit for $150 which the owner wore 2x... It's in my top 5 rotation (on woven blue/beige NATO) and I love everything about it... But Dollar-For-Dollar value adds to it for sure.

I ordered two at the same time, the Kamasu and this one:

I kept this one instead, much better build quality. Bracelet is fantastic, the bezel click action is on par!, and the finishing is great. Yeah, no sapphire, but whatever. I hardly scratch my watches. The crown is signed and screw down and 200M of WR, not that I need it, but I’m happy with this one. 🍻

I’ve had 2 kamasus. Red dial like yours and a blue dial. I agree on the bezel finish though, ultimately kills the look for me. I do think it’s a great entry level watch though

Thats a fantastisch Looking Watch congratulations 👍there is also Orient Star, the luxury version. They are not too expensive. If you are into divers you can try to have a look at the RE-AU0304L. Have fun 🤗
