Which Wedding Day watch would you pick?

Hi guys! First post here. Budget 5k. Wrist size 6.5 Not a sure if a black or white dial looks better. Also undecided on leather strap works best with a black tux. Any advice is welcome! Thanks for your input!

That Omega or GS will be fine if your wedding is casual event or if it’s held on a beach where you might play volleyball later.

If your wedding is going to be a formal event where you’re going to wear a nice suit or a tux, the IWC or another proper dress watch is more appropriate.

This is what I picked up for my daughters wedding. I wanted something special that wasn't to expensive. My money for the most part goes to the actual wedding

Courthouse wedding and whatever watch you can afford 😀

Really can’t go wrong with a tank for formal purposes.

I’d consider a Formex Essence as well.

I feel like I need to remind the Omega fans that just because the AT is an Omega doesn’t make it a dress watch. Omega actually makes a line of dress watches. It’s called the DeVille line.

The AT is a casual sport watch. It’s right in the name… Aqua…Terra. Water and land. Outdoor activity. Not formal dress. Let’s not lead our newest member into a formal occasion wearing a sport watch just because an Omega is in the poll.

Came here to say Cartier Tank, was not disappointed 👌🏽

Personally, would go for a large steel SolarBeat though

White dial

Where are you located? If in the U.S., then I would say that with a $5k budget, go to Chrono24, and pick this up from a professional Japanese dealer for $4,117.

  • Champagne dial, which I've read is harder for GS to do than the Snowflake dial!

  • GMT

  • Spring Drive!

  • Can be dressed up (with a nice alligator strap) or down (waxed canvas strap)

  • Has 100M WR, so if you're utterly insane, you can wash dishes with it on!

Hi @KuyaNikko !

Congratulations for your wedding and welcome to the club! 😀🍻

A friend who was not into watches got the GS SBGM221 for his wedding after some exhausting research and comparison.

In the end he loved it, she loved it, he got many compliments and he is wearing it daily for the last 4,5 years.

What more to ask?

That's a beautiful one! Regarding the dial, there is a verz interesting story.

I was told in a GS boutique that it is not resembling campagne but the silk that has been traditionally being produced in the area around the GS studio. If you look close it looks like weaved silk 😮

Wow! Now I HAVE to get that watch!

Rolex OP - for me the gada watch of watches.

If you don’t like it, well done…you just made a profit :)

He needs to be waiting for it even after his wedding is over 😅

·

Grand Seiko SBGW231? Gorgeous cream dial, great dimensions, timeless and classic and all for £4k (GBP).

·

Strictly speaking, the GS is the most formal, but for a bit of flair, the AT.

You can't lose with either.

·

I'd go with GS out of those mentioned. I've owned the SBGX231 and have the same size wrist as you. It was a perfect fit with that 37mm case!

I get this sentiment. But. (there's always a "but" on TheInternet™, right?) I'd want to wear my wedding watch every day, or at least more casually. If you lean towards formal, you may not have occasion to wear it very often and that would be unfortunate. If you cheat towards the casual side of formal like the Omega or GS (or Longines comes to mind for a dressy enough every day watch) then it'll look good for your wedding but won't look so out of place when you wear it casually on the weekend. I like the Omega the most and Bond, James Bond made it alright to wear sports watches with tuxedos.

This is all fine but the OP’s question was which watch for his wedding day to wear with a black tuxedo. All the GADA discussion is people reinterpreting the question to justify their preference.

It wasn’t which sport watch should suit his casual needs for the next 30 years until his future children can inherit his watch. He could just as well wear a Mickey Mouse watch to his wedding but he’s actually asking what is proper to wear with a tuxedo. The answer is not GADA.

Quite simply, the best watch to wear with a tux is no watch or barring that, a dress watch.

·

Wear what you love. No one cares abt ur watch besides you hehe i have friends who wear speedmaster on strap and they look absolutely appropriate 😉 its a tiny bit of jewelry on your wrist.

i would go with what you already have or spring fot whatever your heart desires! The omega is lovely.

·

Take a look at chronoswiss or any german indie from watchbuys if you want something diff like dornbluth 40mm or benzinger 38mm. Still within 5k.

Agreed. I did suggest one of his list of watches and also suggested wearing an Omega Sports Watch with a tux was made more than acceptable by 007 with the added benefit of being able to be worn more casually. I don't see how that's a departure from the question asked.

·

007 presented the incongruous proposition of wearing a Rolex Submariner with a Tuxedo. Naturally, Omega’s obsession with copying everything Rolex does led them to buy their way into the Bond franchise.

This is the lamest way to try and “normalize” anything, never mind an “Omega sport watch with a Tux”. Copy the fictional spy franchise with a paid endorsement from a watch company if you think that’s cool.

You do you.

It's ALL marketing. Even the idea of not wearing a watch with a tux, or the tux itself. If he's getting married before 6pm he shouldn't be wearing a tux at all. And so on.

·

I'd go with a white dial. Grand seiko snowflake or white birch would be my pick.

·

white gold black strap Calatrava

·

My wedding day watch was between a Omega Aqua Terra and Nomos Orion, ultimately went with the Nomos as I wanted a dress watch that could easily fit under the cuff, and wanted the sleek black leather strap to complement my black tuxedo!
