I'm an Idiot

Good evening Watchcrunchers,

Let me spin you a tale about an idiot, and a Swatch store.

Today I had to head into the office for a few things related to a work trip on Monday, since the local Swatch store had just ben added to the list of dealers in Canada for the MoonSwatch, I figured I'd pop by to see the display models.

When I walked in, and said what I was there to see, the staff informed me that they had a few watches left from the morning rush. I was in a hurry, so I asked what ones they had, expecting that the ones I wanted would be sold out. The gentleman serving me listed off a few names, and pointed at the case where each type was held... He said they had a Jupiter, and being in a rush, while also not actually expecting to buy today, I hear Jupiter and pictured Pluto.

I said I'd take a Jupiter, and things moved quickly from there... Fast forward the better part of an hour, and when I get home to view my new MoonSwatch, I immediately realize I'm an idiot.

I'm far too embarrassed to go back, so now I'm the proud owner of a Mission to Jupiter MoonSwatch... 🤣

Well hopefully it will bring jollity.

I like the colorway!

I like the colorway!

It's growing on me, I like that it's not a "normal" colour for a watch.

Precisely. Just consider it a burgeoning love affair.

·

Looks nice though! Enjoy the Jupiter

·

It's not one of my finest moments, but it is pretty funny looking back on it.

Apparently I had just missed the big line-up, which would have given me the time to think clearly before buying.

·

Congratulations! Welcome to Jupiter!

Hopefully its the start of more stock appearing in stores now.

I disliked the Pluto colourway when I saw the online pictures but in person, I really like it. The case colour and the burgundy sub dials work really well together. I think it works better as a ’traditional’ colour.
How are you getting on with the nato? I had to swap mine out. Did you know you that the fitted silicone strap for Seamaster fits the Moonswath/Moonwatch exactly? I’m not condoning buying a $300 strap from Omega (you can get an online variant for around $30).

·

😂 funny story, but i think jupiter colorway is good one too

·

I think Jupiter and Mars are the best two.

·

Congratulations on gettingone. I think it's one of the nicest variants. Definitely don't think you're an idiot, could see myself doing the same! And if you don't get on with it, I know someone who will take it off your hands. Unless you fancy doubling your money on eBay!

·

I opted for an Earth over a Pluto and I think I might have to get a Pluto soon. I really didn’t think I’d like or wear mine as much as I do.

To be honest, I think the stock strap is OK. It's not great, but it fits my 7" wrist perfectly, if it wasn't so obviously branded I'd consider swapping it onto another watch.

I'll have to take a look online for a reasonable Moonwatch strap, as I won't pay more for a strap than the watch itself.

My only real gripe with the Jupiter is that it's very "vanilla" looking compared to a few of the other variants, and the watch is just a "fun" watch to me.

My plan is to move it on at/below cost when I find a variant I want, it was genuinely a dumb mistake.

The Jupiter is undeniably nice looking, but beige isn't my favourite colour.

·

Well at least you have one now and you can assess whether it's worth trying for any more.

What's your verdict? Worth adding to the collection? Or is it just a toy?

It's a toy worth adding to a collection, in my opinion.

My expectation was that it would be a novelty in the collection, rather than a "serious" watch. I have serious watches for work and play already, so the MoonSwatch is just a fun change of pace.

If you're looking for value, or specs it will fall far short of expectations.

One interesting thing I learned, a Moonwatch would fit me perfectly. I always had it in the back of my mind that the Moonwatch would be too big for my wrist.

When I did my research on rubber straps for the Speedmaster the only one I could find that was fitted was HORUS straps. I wouldn't mind getting one since it would fit on my Speedmaster, but if there is a cheaper alternative can you share a link?

That’s not too big of a screw up.  I was texting my AD during the lock downs and asked if he had a Black Bay Blue.  He said yes.  I picked it up during the strict contact rules.  It was only after I got home that I realized I forgot to say Black Bay 58 Blue.

I didn’t make a fuss because I got the watch I actually asked for so that’s how I accidentally bought my BBB instead of a BB58.

You mistakenly bought a fantastic watch, well done! 😆👍

A jovial watch. It will grow on you.

Wow... That is definitely on a much larger scale!

Hopefully you enjoy the BBB, they are nice watches without a doubt.

I think you can easily exchange the Jupiter for a Pluto on Craigslist or the like. The Pluto sells for much lower on the secondary market, at least in my area. See if there’s someone willing to make an exchange

At this point I plan to hold it until I find the version I want, then sell at a non-inflated price. I figure my mistake might be made good if I can get the watch to someone without access to a Swatch store selling MoonSwatches.

·

Uranus is my fav!! 😂 why you ask??!! It’s Uranus!!

anywhooo… Jupiter is nice man I dig it!! But yeah I would have done the same since it too damn many variations it can get confusing also knowing you have an opportunity to cop one!  The excitement alone would confuse me 😵‍💫😂🤪 …

·

Flip it for what you paid for it and help bring down the aftermarket prices. They only put velcro on kids things anyway and it is a colorful huge plastic thing that will stand out on the appearance of anyone seeking youthful notice.

Because the Moonwatch is currently my Grail, the sizing aspect you mentioned is thea main reason I want a MoonSwatch.

Congrats and when you decide to move on from it, let me know?

The Horus ones are nice, but there’s no ay I’m putting a £200+ strap on a £200 watch!

Here’s the straps - super pliable

I did similar with the mission on earth. They would only show what they had in stock by pointing to pictures on an iPad. Then they hide it away in a stapled bag. I wasn't a fan of the watch or the color once I had it in wrist in my hotel room. I sold it on ebay and used my profit toward something else.

It sucks that they rush, it definitely is a standard retail experience, and not a typical AD experience.

There was a line of likely flippers forming behind me-- I am guessing that is the reason for the silliness. The fiasco did get me in to 2 different swatch shops that I would likely not have visited otherwise. I saw that they do have some okay watches that I would consider buying.

Just get a replacement strap, the case/dial color looks fine to me😉
