Watches in the Wild (Party in the Bay Part 2, Volume 61)

Disclaimer: My windup watch. PF Tonda GT on Rubber.

This is the sixty first(ish) in a semi-regular digest of cool watches I happened to see this week.

Past posts in this series have been hashtagged to #watchesinthewild

As always, my general policy is that I never ask for wrist shots (because approaching strangers and distant acquaintances to talk about watches is already weird enough) so all pictures below are sourced from the internet unless otherwise noted. People are mostly cool, I try not to annoy them.

---

Part 1 here.

Part 2 drops now.  Last post I talked about the booth watches.  Now I'm going to talk about the watches on the wrists

I am going to exclude a lot of watches that I saw at the show.  Some of them I just forgot including some on the wrists of my fellow crunchers.  For those who saw me there, I apologize deeply.  Your watch is almost certainly more awesome that I can say.

Oh, I also won't be talking about your watch if you wore a Speedmaster, a SeaMaster 300m, or any of a thousand Rolex variants.  I just can't be bothered.

We were never going to be comprehensive here. Some spots have stories but many don't.

https://youtu.be/HKK4KmDlj8U?si=napEkxWvHommmcFj

This is going to be a wild one. I hope you enjoy.

First some incidental spots.  No stories associated with them but @SpecKTator can tell you...my head was on a swivel.

CW Bel Canto Green

Bulova Jet Star Complecto LE

Image

On the wrists of two men manning the Complecto booth.  They took a picture of my watch and I complimented their's.

I talked about my thoughts on the Bel Canto in part 1 so let's focus on the Jet Star LE.  I don't understand why Bulova let Complecto make the best and most attractive version of their Jet Star Quartz into an LE.  This watch is fire.

Vintage SeaMaster on Uncle Seiko

Image

On the wrist of @artpordiaz .  Looked super good especially with the tropic dial.

Dufonte Datejust

Image

On the wrist of @Framper_22. The actual watch pulled from the profile. I too love a gold dress watch!

Wakman stopwatch

Image

Something out of @blackbookalpha s bag of holding.  Beautifully restored and absolutely gorgeous.  I only got to see it for a moment before he ran off to crack open someone's Rolex (I think)

Oris Divers 65 Topper Special edition

Image

The actual watch on @Rome1234 's wrist, a classy diver for a classy guy.  It looked so good buddy!

Sorry for not calling you out in the first post!

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda GT Small Seconds

Image

Ain't no party like a PF party cuz a PF party don't stop.  On the wrist of a gentleman checking out he Jack Mason booth with me.

I will break my normal protocol and post a picture of my own as he asked for permission to take a photo and I did the same.  I was very close to buying this watch before settling on the Chrono.

Modded Seiko Yachtmaster

Image

On the wrist of an older gentleman in the JM/Oak and Oscar hallway.  I commented that it was the only white Yachtmaster out there.

He laughed and said he wanted something a little more low key for a watch meet up.  Apparently his kids are fire fighters so he has purchased a pair of William Woods.

Pitzmann One

Image

Seen at the Straum booth.  I complimented it and he said that I was the first person who had recognized it all day.  Lovely watch with a beautiful dial.

Lorca GMT in Silver

Image

Seen on another watch cruncher's wrist (sorry, I forgot your handle).  Fantastic looking and

Kurono Toki

Image

On @SpecKTator's wrist, the genuine specimen.  I remember when he bought this one!  Magnificent.

Zodiac Triple Calendar Moonphase w/ GMT

Image

On the wrist of a watch friend who went in with two watches on his wrists (a Rolex Day Date and a vintage Orient) and walked out with this one as a third.

Nomos Neomatik Tangente update

Image

The actual watch on @TomatoBass 's wrist. A looker with a wonderful story about fathers and sons trying to emulate each other in buying watches.

Tag Heuer Skipper

Image

Seen in the wrist of a gentleman checking out Depancel.  I complimented it and asked if it was a skipper and he said that he wasn't sold when he saw pictures but immediately bought when he saw it in person.  It's definitely one of those watches that is absolutely stunning in person.

Leica L2

Image

Seen at the Horage booth on the wrist of someone checking out the Lensman Tourbillion.  I wish I'd asked about this watch because it is absolutely fascinating how it even came to be.  Like who at Leica thought building a watch was the next strategic move to take?  And then decided to go custom never used before monopusher chronograph movement?  Amazing.

Cartier Tank Solar beat

Image

Seen on the wrist of a gentleman who was checking out Horage with me.  He said that I should consider buying my wife a Solar beat if I needed a gift to get my wife into watches.  I told him she owned a Tank Solo already and that interest was a lost cause

Formex Essence 43, Old logo

Image

Seen on the wrist of Sergio, lovely gentleman who managed to snag his Essence for $800 on the initial Kickstarter.  Excellent taste and even better foresight.

Doxa Sub 300T Clive cussler

Image

Seen on the wrist of a gentleman who was riding with @RandomRob 's posse.  He was busy, I was busy so no conversation was had. I'm not a massive fan of Clive Cussler novels so this release passed me by but it's a cool looking watch.

Jack Mason Strat-O-Timer Candy Corn

Image

Picture shamelessly copied from @IanCognito

One of at least 7 Strat-O-Timer s I saw walking the floor but the only one I complimented. The bezel combos are absolutely choice.

MB&F LM101

Image

Breguet 7027

Image

My two last spots of the show and what spots they were.  On the wrists of the two dudes manning the Sutcliffe Hansen booth.  Leave it to the sellers of ultra high end watch tools to have the hypest watches around.

After all this, I need a hot shower and a cold beer.

But before I go...if you went to Windup SF, what cool watches did you see here?

Leave it to Leica to do something different, because they are Leica.

Wonder if they will do a monochrome version....👀🤏🏻😆😝.

·

Sounds like am awesome show. Hope you had fun! Curious to hear what other watches you all saw at the show.

·

That Breguet though…amazing.

Excellent work and a flurry of cool watches.

Leica does what Leica does! I wasn't entirely certain it was a real watch when it dropped and yet here we are!

I'm not convinced it is worth the dollars but it was very very cool.

Excellent work and a flurry of cool watches.

It's much lower key in person than in pictures. Which doesn't take much because it looks like a Jules Verne fever dream in pictures.

It is a very striking watch.

Thanks for all thoughts and recap. GREAT READ!

I just relay the stories as I hear them and yours was wonderful! It's not my place to share the specific details but someday, you should write it up your experiences with Panerai and Nomos here on WC!

Some great watches and shout outs! 🤩

Hey man, you live here! You could be at Windup too!

But you seem to have snuck in a Disney trip instead . Not that anyone could blame you. 😉

·

I saw the tag and was confused because we've never met haha 😂

Yeah, I was thwarted by Disney birthday and then prom immediately last night for junior. Had I planned on going today, I probably would return a truly broken man. I’m old and out of shape so waltzing around a massive park with family in tow puts extra strain on these bones these days. I’m happy to see all these posts, and I’ll take a recovery day for now. We’ll see what next year brings.

Glad to notice one enthusiast with a Breitling Datora, a few months ago my wife e transferred some funds for a new timepiece or at least part of a watch, I was on the fence with either a JLC triple calendar moonphase or the Datora, price is about the same. She finally got around to checking out what I used her gifted dollars on. First reaction, “Watch is thick”. Lol! I tell her the lines on the side of the case is supposed to diminish the thickness of the case. She walks away shaking her head, laughing, laughed harder when I told her the price. I didn’t bother debating further, watch is thick but in a nice way! Thx for the 2 part post. 👍

the WitW influencer

What a nasty thing to say, calling me an influencer. You take that back! 😂😂😂

I've always had this notion that I should have a physical notebook to take notes in. I feel like tapping out notes on a phone is a little rude.

When you said notebook, my brain went straight to this look…

Thanks for posting this. Love the hot shower and cold beer line.

Have you ever been in a room of watch nerds? It's sweaty in there!

That's a tough choice. I might have gone the other way. The Datora is one of those watches that I wonder if I like because it's an amazing watch or because the Patek 5270 is seared I to my brain as an icon.

Regardless, I think it is an absolutely stunning watch...Breitling should explore more of that aesthetic.

I have better experience with servicing B over JLC, should not have been the defining factor but truth is watches break down. Different service centres in different communities perform better and worst. I intend to pick up a JLC Moonphase when I visit my family in Quebec this summer. Pateks are serviced here by the people who used to service Breitling before the brand was returned to B Swiss a little uneven again. Really like the Laurent Ferrier classic Moonphase but that is serious money! Take good care my friend!

It takes a special type of watch nerd to buy and wear a PF.

Yeah I know PF but i didn't recognize it until i saw this thread. Really great coverage thanks.

·

Man, I haven't been able to attend a Windup yet, but it's clear that it's the place for watch nerds! I would love it!

You really would! I feel like whenever my kids are out of diapers, I kinda want to try to do a full weekend of windup. Just to literally try everything.

If I do, I'm looping you in.

·

Just stole your picture from your Candy Corn review and wanted to properly attribute. Though if you made your way down here for next windup, I'd buy you a drink as thanks!

Appreciate the credit and always down for a drink! 🥃💦

Ships passing in the night.

Honestly there can't have been that many IWC Ingenieurs in Aqua at this event so maybe that's our one connection away!

Another time!

You really do possess watch ID superpowers to have such efficacy when surrounded with 10,000 other new watch releases

I saw this one on Kathleen’s (the chieftain of Redbar) wrist

Image

And on the wrist of Zach Kazan of Worn and Wound was rocking the Fears Brunswick Mother of Pearl.

Image

I was a little sad as I’d hoped he was wearing his Fordite Arcanaut, still hope to see that one in person sometime
