What's your ratio of date/day date to no date watches?

I used to pass over watches without a day or day/date complication because I thought it was important to always be able to tell the date when looking at my watch. But I changed, or more specifically - my attitude toward time changed as I matured and got older. Now roughly a third of my non digital watches don't have a date complication and I'm fine with it. Therefore it's interesting for me to learn if I'm not alone in being pretty much date agnostic as far as watch collection goes. What's your collection looks like?

I prefer no dates but most of my watches have dates…I used to prefer only with dates but I’m lazy now I just want the no dates 😜

·

I like without day/date option, but most of my watches have day and date or just date (mostly this). The reason is because I didn't find a watch without day/date that I actually want to buy 😄

·

I only have a few day/dates, but I don't mind them. The key to any day/date is the quality of the quick change feature. In this regard Seiko wins hands down.

·

It's pretty much assured that I won't buy a watch if it doesn't have a date. As much as I like the look of my watches, they are still functional tools to me, so I'll take function over form.

·

Absolutely hate that unnecessary pointless-for-anyone-with-a-functional-memory complication!!

Unfortunately Seiko blight all their fine watches with it, but fortunately I'm getting on a bit so can't see them anyway. At least it's easier to ignore on their new Slim Turtles, so I'll probably get one of those next 😂

I also prefer no date watch and if there is a choice (Some microbrandss tend to let consumer choose), I always choose a no-date, for several reasons but most important :

1) Ugly integration, no matching date wheel, not matching font between numerals and date, 3' o'clock position that ruins the symetry, no consistency between thesize of date and the index at 9... I am way more tolerent if the date window is at 6 (Thank you Zelos, Ch Ward, Phoibos) or with pointer date.

2) Using automatic watch with poor PR (38 to 42hrs), I am usually good to set time and complication when taking a watch for the day. On an Snk or Snkl Seiko5 with this ridiculously tiny little crown à 4 o'clock position it's a real pain in the a**.

BUT, because there is a but, I discovered with my latest purchase (Citizen Promaster Land) the joy of a perpetual calendar (until 2100) on a solar radio controlled watch. That means that the watch never stops running (as I don't let it in the drawer for more than 6 months) and is always on time, with the good day and date (including 29 of february when it has one, "bissextile" in french, sorry don't get the translate).

In my collection I have 4 Day/date complication, no Date only (not intended) and 7 3hands

My preference is for symmetry so I prefer no day/no date or ones that are symmetrically placed. But I also don’t like ghost positions.

As they are much easier to set, I tend to pick up my no day/no date watches more readily to wear and - the fiddlier they are to set - the less I am inclined to pick others up.

The flip side is that once they are set I am more likely to keep wearing the day/date watches - as I invested in the hassle of setting them! Go figure.

·

Day/date is useful, until I have to set it after it runs out of power reserve

·

I choose no date if I have a choice.

In reality it is difficult and out of my collection of 5 analog watches that I bought myself (not gifted), only 2 have no date.

Others are;

- point date in sub-dial, which doesn’t bother me at all

- date at 3:30 with red text on black, and very small, which you don’t see unless you want to see

- date at 6, which I’d rather not have but can live with as it doesn’t spoil the symmetry

I can’t stand the date at 3, which screams “I’m here!” Cyclops to top it? No way!

Funny thing is I can’t get 5-digit Explorer II Polar off my mind since I saw one in metal😂

My taste will probably change when I got one😊

·

5 of my 8 time pieces have a date or day-date. I prefer it, but don't really mind if the watch doesn't have one. It's all in the overall look and design of the watch.

·

Two equal and opposite things for me. I do like having a date. But I also love symmetry.

So - I have both in my collection..

Best is where a different solution maintains both symmetry and a date (think oris pointer date or aquanaut travel time )

·

I have tiers of preferences and try to stick to them, doesn't always work...

Quartz - Date is A OK

Mechanical diver - no date

Mechanical dress - day only

Seiko - they don't care what I want, they only exist to play with my emotions and take my money

At this point in life Im retired and I could really care less what day it is...LOL

·

Like others, will always buy no date if available, regular date function is fine. Not including digital watches, I only own a single day/date. It is not a complication I care for as I always know the day of the week and I fear it being something else that can break.

Even when I'm retired I will want to know the date, so I'll know when my pension cheque comes in. 😉

·

I have several day as well as non-day. I don’t like day/date other than on digital watches

·

As I don't use/set the date, all of my watches are lacking the complications.

Very good..MY wife keeps informing me (every time I spend any money) thart i dont have any money coming in......LOL

·

I prefer no date most of the time. I want a Blancpain FF but all modern models seem to include the date grrrr

Given the choice, I usually opt for non, but that's cuz I have a few watches and I like to give everyone a chance to breath. 🤘🏻

For date, at any given time I have at least three options staring me in the face during the workday. (Laptop, work phone, dash HUD of car). And if it's my days off, the LAST thing I want to think about is what the date is.

Sometimes I even go as far to just throw a watch on and let roll, whether it's wound or not, correct date or not a la Andy Warhol.

·

I didn't used to be bothered about having a date - in fact, often I'd realise I'd forgotten to correct it at the beginning of the month days into that month. These days, though, I find myself wanting to check the date more often, for example in the supermarket when looking at "Use by" dates, so I really appreciate it. Maybe it's just about getting old. My ratio is roughly 25% without a date. If given the choice, I'll always want the date, but not having it isn't a deal breaker.

·

Every day is saturday to me so I like to keep track of the days you unfortunate people have to work. 😉

·

I don't mind dates unless they are on Traveller GMTs mainly because I hate the lack of quick set dates on these movements.

·

I constantly check the date on my no-date watches. While I love the simple, perfect look of my Explorer... damn it I wish it told me the date

OTOH, what's the point in a GMT watch that can't show the date?

·

If my collection grows, I suppose I’d only have date features on quartz. That way when I come around to wearing it, it will still be right.

·

I was the same as you when first getting into watches. I thought look wise it looked fine and why not have another complication to the watch. As I got deeper into watches, I started to steer away from watches with day/date. I preferred a simple dial, hated having to adjust the date if I hadn’t worn it in awhile (although I love winding mechanical watches), and ultimately never used it.

I wouldn’t say that I don’t do watches anymore with day/date, but if given the choice. I typically prefer the No day/date. 🤙🏼

·

I have no hate towards any date format. Strictly case by case basis for me

I think that what happened with me is that I went from being a pro date day/date complication buyer to one who is indifferent.
