Pretty quick post… that pain, and anxiety you feel when you bang your watch off of something for the first time (in this case a chair)
quick edit: i should have specified a bit. It’s not so much the scratches and dings I’m worried about. I was more worried about the movement itself. I know mechanical movements are stronger then some give them credit for. but it’s an honest anxiety for someone who struggles constantly with mental health
cheers, and appreciate everyone’s comments.
I have been a watch nerd for going on 5 years now. Favourite type of watch is a flieger. Particularly like the type b. Beyond that other pilots watches, and some field watches tend to be ones that I e...

Haha, well could always use a reason for just one more watch 😋 but I think I need to save this month
That's why I wear cheap watches so I never have to worry about it.
My anxiety cones naturally from being broke and stupid.

Fair enough. Most of my watches are pretty budget friendly (around the 100$ mark). it’s always still pretty painful though. partly because I’m just a generally anxious person, and partly because I don’t usually have money to just go and and buy another if one breaks 😅
thanks for the comment, cheers
Re read this, I see what you mean. yes, once you bang and ding a new watch a few times. It becomes much less stressful. that’s why I call it the “honeymoon faze“ lol
Thanks for the reply btw 🙂
Easy solution, send to one of us for a week, let us break it in, get the first scratch, etc. You get it back free of new watch stress.

lol, that’s a tempting offer. but I think I’ll be good 😉. I’ll get over it eventually. just takes some getting used to
Rite of passage.
A watch worn for a couple of years with no signs of wear is truly an abused watch.

Fair point. things are meant to be used. it still hurts the first time they get dinged. but every one is a story.
All dings eventually become scars and thus CHARACTER! 😎

Oh yeah I definitely don't have 160 bucks laying around. But I just accept that watches will get damaged as part of their use.

Yeah that’s true enough. I’m honestly just a little ball of constant stress, and anxiety 😅. but I am working on that

Amen brother! When it happens. I'm like,"dang it! Oh well." And just move on.
Can't you buy pre-scratched watches? After all they do something similar with jeans.
OUCH! Then I’ll just move on. Lol
My watches are just as scarred as my life. Lol
That's not such a big deal if you buy used 😅 I rubbed my BB36 against a rough brickwall the second day I after I got it. The fact that there was plenty og marks and a tiny chip in the crystal already made it bearable.
What’s done, is done.
Never forget you were the lucky person in the world to have it in the first place
Whilst I sympathise, nothing beats the underlying dread of the first 48hrs with a vintage.
if you know… you know
you need a ding on every watch you have, once it’s their you can relax a bit (said the person who just put a sapphire crystal in his G-shock because he scratched the face haha)
Hopefully not your brand new chair!
I learned a trick where you can get rid of scratches by hiding it under more scratches.
Eventually, it simply becomes patina and the history of the watch. Unfortunately, the first cut really is the deepest.
But seriously; what is a watch without a ding or scratch?! Who wants those sterile monsters?! Evan from the YT channel 'youreterrific1' is talking regularly about his phobia for scratches (he even sold his Santos because of it...) and I do not relate. Of course I'll be bummed if I got a major scratch or ding, but the small ones? That's how you tell other watchnerds you're actually wearing them instead of hoarding! Love live the scratchmonster!

Sidenote here: I do tend to turn my wrist inward when I pass concrete or brick walls... I am not a complete idiot!

It has to be sent back to Japan for the Ustaraz treatment. It’s “Zaratsu” in reverse.
Why not buy a second hand watch already marked so you will never know if you have marked it

Did you read the update in the main post?
I have a bell and ross knocked it against a marble table top no damage at all ,if I did damage it I'd just send it back to the dealer for repair, I understand your anxiety but things happen
That would be very good question for those that have them new smart watches wow what a worry that feels. For me I keep it simple I don't want something to way nice and expensive hate to have anything stolen. And any watches that gets scratched or bang for me thats the battle scars of good use. As long that it tells me the time thats what matters.
