New to collecting.

I'm new to this community, and I only have a "collection" of one watch at this point. That one watch is only an Timex Expedtion that I was able to find at my local Walmart. I do love it though, I'm naturally drawn to a lot of field watches I've seen.

I got here because I'm a recent convert from the Apple Watch. I've owned an Apple Watch from the day they released. I've owned several variations including the latest Apple Watch Ultra. Through my years with the Apple Watch I've bought several bands and was always changing out the watches faces to try and achieve an nice look with the watch. In my opinion I was always left unsatisified and was constantly looking for the "right" look with it. I'd recently kind of hit a wall with this frustration and started looking at Youtube for any advice on some traditional watches. I landed on Teddy Baldassarre's channel, and a few hours of content later I'd put my Apple Watch Ultra for sale on Ebay.

That is the day I went to Walmart and picked out a watch from the limited selection of Timex watches that were avaiable at the store.

Once I had the watch on my wrist for about a day, I feel like I was hooked. Everything I was looking for with the Apple Watch I was getting from wearing this $46 watch from Walmart. It is hard to describe exactly but I believe it has something to do with the watch's nature with being a real object as opposed to this digital display of the time. I still can't put my finger on it exactly but like I said, I am hooked.

I will say that I'd never owned a watch before the Apple Watch and I truly did enjoy my time as an owner of one, but at this moment I don't see myself going back. I am looking forward to adding to my "collection" soon. I'm really glad I've found this community. Thanks!

The Expedition was a good start to the slippery slope that is watch collecting. Have fun! 👍

Good man Teddy doing the watch gods' work :D

I'm two yrs into the rabbit hole myself and pretty much a novice. WC is a lovely community, welcome aboard!

·

Welcome! That’s one hell of a responsible start with your Timex.

I had the same feeling with my Apple Watch, and I got tired of it nagging me. I switched back to wearing my 20+ year old automatic and appreciate it so much more now. Enjoy your time here

Professor Teddy got another one.

Welcome! Great pick with the Timex.

Welcome! You can't go wrong with Timex wherever you are on collecting and enjoying wristwatches.😎

Enjoy your hunt for a great field watch. The Seiko5 SNK805 was my starter watch.

Welcome to WC!

This is a big hole you are jumping in to lol. I think this Timex is the only one you need. You can stop there. For now.

As for myself, before I joined, I had already been collecting for a long time. I had recently acquired the newest Apple Watch series 9 and I actually like it a lot. It keeps track of my movements and has gotten me started on exercising daily, mainly so I can “close my rings” lol. I was not satisfied with just the Apple Watch though. I still love my analog watches so my solution was to wear two watches. I wear the Apple Watch on my right wrist and my traditional watches on my left. Now I’m the weirdo two-watch guy in my community and when I run into another “two-watch” person, we immediately bond over our crazy watch fetish.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your watch journey. Keep your Apple Watch. Wear both of them. I feel balanced having watches on both wrists. It really works!

Not once has anyone commented upon it. Balance and modern watches are functional bracelets for me

I did, was a rural road early in the morning going pretty slow but I see your point.

Welcome to the hobby!! I started collecting ten months ago, initially ignoring field watches because they looked too basic... but was obviously wrong. It's a huge sector, and it's easy to get lost in it. I am now liking the military ones.

Don't rush, study and try to find "the one", then wait before committing, until you're sure that you'll love it. I let many models enter my list, but they have to wait 2-3 months to be promoted to possible acquisitions. Set yourself a budget if you feel it will be helpful.

·

Absolutely recommend the Seiko GMT movement models #islander sells

Awesome pick! Timex is solid! Im with you on the Apple Watch experience. I’ve been mesmerized by watches since I was in elementary, started with Timex expedition indiglo, casio calculator watch from back to the future, and was lucky enough to be gifted with random fashion watches.

Then during college Apple Watch came out and it slowly became my daily, till a year later when I revisited my Casios, decided to get rid of the Apple Watch here I am collecting again 😬🍻 cheers!

Welcome to the cult, there are a lot of sub cults Like casio cult, the radio controlled watches cult and ofcourse... The Seiko modders. You'll find your niche or not. Just be sure to have fun and get the watches YOU LIKE. NOT BECAUSE A YOUTUBE VIDEO SAID IT'S GOOD

I really like this as a strategy to keep myself from getting carried away. Thanks for the insight.

Welcome, Brandon! It’s great to have you. Interesting and inspirational post. I love that you sold your Apple Watch!! No offense to Apple Watch owners, but I just think they (the watch not the owner) have no soul. Maybe that’s why you were attracted to a “real” watch. The Apple Watch is a great example of planned obsolescence. It’s designed to be thrown away after you get a couple years of use out of it. I know they have some cool features, and I don’t see a problem with people wearing them to track their health. But fashionable or distinctive they are not. They’re boring, sterile and ubiquitous. I have enough devices in my life: a desktop PC, multiple laptops, multiple tablets, and my iPhone — I don’t need another screen. Your Timex will literally last for decades if taken care of. It represents a time when things were made to last and not just be disposable. I like your photo by the way. Seems to represent the beginning of your new journey. Remember to take your time and enjoy it. 😀👍🏻❤️

Nice pic! #welcome to the crunch!

Welcome! Can't wait to see what you get next! No rush though. The Expedition is a fantastic watch. I hope you'll enjoy it for a long time.

·

If you only have one watch, then you DO NOT have a collection. That’s a good thing. It means there’s still hope for you. Delete your account, burn all your devices, and never look back as you enjoy your Timex.
