The Universe is trying to tell me something.

I saw this on my way to work yesterday. I am not sure that the Universe was really messaging me because most of what I own is closer to $40 than $4,000. I am a firm believer that the most important messages are to be found on men's room walls and the backs of dump trucks (often on mud flaps).

So, if this message was really for you, I have now delivered it as instructed.

The same thinking can be applied up to many items if you look purely at functionality but fundamentally is rarely the part that brings one joy and/or pleasure.

·

I have to say, that dump truck owner probably isn't a Watchcrunch member.

If I just wanted to know the time, I'd just look at my phone for free...

·

I'd argue the $40 watch is likely more accurate.

·

You should change your handle to Gabriel!

Message received and confirmed. Then again, a $4 wine has the same alcohol percentage as a $40 one…

A bottom-shelf house brand 5% lite lager beer makes you as drunk as a $10 craft double dry-hopped New England IPA beer with Amarillo and Simcoe hops.

A 20$ discounter plastic cabin wheelie suitcase carries the same clothes and items than a 1200$ aluminium Rimowa cabin wheelie suitcase.

A Hyundai i10 car carries you to the same places that a Mercedes-Benz CLA does.

You can listen to music using $2 discounter bin earbuds or using a $3000 Meze Empyrean II headphones set.

There is always a cheaper option. There is always the option that just “does the job” and the option normal people consider overpriced, which only die-hard enthusiasts can fully appreciate. We watch nerds aren’t different from hopheads, car nerds or audiophiles.

Like a really good friend of mine used to say “When your values are clear, decisions are easy” The value of any timepiece has more to do with the emotions it illicits while on your wrist, than the ability it affords you to tell time. I think everyone here on WC shares this same value, and it’s why this message only resonates with those who don’t.

So true, 😆

·

Function over form is for the practical. Form over function is for the flex.

·

And a broken watch is always right twice a day😂

Well said

A £40 quartz watch probably keeps better time 😂

·

I’m not arguing with a guy driving a dump truck.

·

A $40 watch is most likely a quartz watch whereas a $4000 watch has good chances to be some sort of mechanical. So the $40 is more likely to tell the time on point ...

·

Yeah but a $4000 watch tells it with a bit more style

·

The sentence on the truck will stay with me right until I see the next watch I just need to have 🤣🤣

·

So as the old saying goes a 40$ watch shows the time and 4000$ watch shows your time ..

I need to see your Narrengold Schwedenschanze, Trolldeep Double Back, and especially Nusuma Reta G5809k9.

Somewhere... a burgler is highly disappointed at this message. They are tired of breaking in and finding people's $40 watch collection. 🤣

Tell that to the guy who stole my GShock in Barcelona.

A $40 ticket is the same as a $4000 ticket.

Wait for it....

·

Mmm, you have a point there. Then maybe we can also say our phone tells the time so no need to even spend 40 dollars lol.

TrollDeep Double Back LE has a no strap option. Game changer.

·

You can wear the ugliest 40 dollar watch in the most dangerous city and they won’t rob you. But if you wear the 4000 dollar watch for sure someone is getting rob!

All I thought when I saw this was: "Wow - that's kind of a cool purple. I should look at a new watch"

·

No, that's not right. I'm wearing a $40 watch right now. It says it's 9:25 on the 9th of January. I just checked my $4000 watch I last wore on Christmas Day and it says it's 1:42 on the 27th of December.

The truck doesn’t lie. A $40 watch is a practical tool. A $4000 watch is a status symbol masquerading as such. The $40 watch will do a better job of telling the time, the $4000 watch a better job of telling people how much money you can spend on a watch. Ironically, the folks with the most money are more likely wearing a watch closer to $40 than $4000.

A $4000 watch is more accurate in telling you how rich you are, screw what time it is.

·

Universe should be more clear about whether this sign's valid all day long lol 😁

I agree with this 1000%, what makes watch collecting fun is the joy a watch brings us regardless of the price
