My wife and I had an almost dry January and it went well, so I’ll be doing a dry Lent and a no-corn-chips Lent. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people were at 8 AM Mass today for ashes.
If you like anachronisms, then fountain pens and mechanical watches fit the bill. When I was in engineering at school and the new electronic calculators were all the rage, one guy chose to use a slide rule and I admired him for it.
ItâÂÂs the copper. Back when pennies were solid copper, they would develop a fairly strong smell from being handled. The tin component doesnâÂÂt really have a smell, though tin does have some other interesting properties.
Giving something away is good for the soul. I have only given away two watches, to people who needed a watch and didnâÂÂt have one. My sister got a âÂÂSAABâ branded quartz, chosen to be given away because it lacked a date function and my sister liked it, and a Fossil quartz to a guy my church is helping because I didnâÂÂt need two beaters. Of course, soon after that I broke my remaining beater. ðÂÂÂ
Funny that you posted that today. My wife made me wear my Solar G-Shock GAB-2100 to Mass this morning. I thought that going to church called for something dressier but what do I know? I’m just a man.
