How many watches did you acquire in 2023? What’s your number for 2024

Curious as to how many pieces you WCers pick up in 2023 and what they were. Any goals for 2024?

I picked up a Rolex Explorer II Polar dial and a Rolex OP 36 in Tiffany Blue for my wife…that I secretly wear. I thought about many other pieces but never pulled the trigger or either had the means for them.

As for 2024 I would like to add a more dressy watch, but only 1. Thinking Datejust or maybe a GS.

Whats on your list?

Bought five or six in 2023, sold perhaps 20.

In 2024 will likely return to antiquarian books, art and sculpture.

·

I bought 1 in 2023 (Zenith Revival Liberty) and want 1 in 2024 (Sinn U50). I'm in a very happy place with what I own and don't have anymore wrist time available.

·

I bought 5 or 6 in 2023. I sold 4 or 5. I'm going to sell another 4 or 5 in the next couple weeks.

I am committed to zero new watches in 2024*. I'm going to invest in enjoying my current collection.

* I already paid for one of the new Erebus Origin watches, and I'm excitedly waiting for it in 2024.

·

Bought 2 in 2023. Sold 2. Picked up a Fears Archival and a Sinn 144.

2024 I’ve for my eyes on a potential Breitling Aerospace or a 60’s Omega Constellation. Couldn’t be any different.

·

Just 1, and sold 2 to get it 😅

46… I have a problem.

·

In all honesty I don't know how many I bought but it's not going to be too far away from 15, give or take a couple. I have sold 8-10 this year, 8 of the sales coming in the last fortnight.

2024 is going to be significantly lower although I'm due to receive a Bel Canto, an AnOrdain & a Clemence that were all pre-ordered this year or in 2022. I can see further sales that'll get my number down to around 20. Any additions will be limited to something special or completely different to what I have already.

·

Added four to the harem…uh, collection this year: G-Shock GWM5610; Rolex Explorer ref 124270; Baltic MR01; and the Seiko Speedtimer SLBD085.

Fingers crossed 2024 will be the year I complete a Grand Seiko ‘movement trifecta.’ Have the SBGA211 Snowflake (Spring Drive) and the SBGN003 (quartz GMT). Want to add a GS with a mechanical movement.

·

I’m not going to count. Probably 20 watches

·

I bought way too many say around 20. 2024 I want to keep that number to under 10, which is going to be hard as I already found two I want: a Zelos Blacktip and a second hand Farer I’ve made an offer for.

I’d like to find a Swedish brand that I’ll want to keep. Keeping an eye on Celegin, Bravur and Epoch for that.

·

2 in 2023, Cartier Tank Solo XL and a 1967 Omega DeVille. Love where I am at currently, so plan for 1 in 2024... off to a great start saving!

I bought 6, all in the last quarter of the year. 3 were cheap, spur of the moment pickups. 3 were planned purchases meant to fill a specific role in my collection.

1. Casio MQ-71 - I like to wear an F91w on the resin band as an around the house before bed watch. This watch is the analog equivalent. Very thin and comfy.

2. Casio W217h - this was an impulse buy after I bought one for my partner. I like the big display and light weight. We'll see if it gets enough wrist time to stay.

3. Militado D12 - A Chinese field watch, probably manufactured by San Martin/Seagull. It was $13 so I couldn't say no.

4. Vaer C3 Solar Korean Field - Field watches are my favorite and one of my most worn watches has been the Timex Expedition Scout 36mm. I essentially bought the Vaer as a solar upgrade/replacement for the Expedition.

5. Vaer DS4 Meridian Solar Diver 38mm - In the summer, I switch up my daily driver field watch for a smaller dive watch, which has been the Invicta Pro Diver 38mm. This one was another solar upgrade/replacement.

6. Timex Marlin Re-issue 34mm - I had my eye on this for a while because I wanted a small, champagne dial dress watch that can also dress down. It's perfect.

I don't have any specific watch buying plans for 2024. I've got a small wrist and I'd like to have a mostly solar collection going forward, so that slows me down quite a bit, which is good!

There are some watches I would like to add at some point if I find the right piece. I have a vintage styled solar field watch and I'd like to add a modern solar field watch. I'd like a smaller, solar chronograph - kind of Speedy vibes, not Daytona. I'm thinking about the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer. I've been curious about the Moonswatch as well. I'm also kicking around the idea of adding a Casio A100, aka the Ripley.

Bought nothing, acquired two pocket watches, though neither is back from the shop yet. Hope to buy nothing and somehow lose one to three. One is currently out of action, so that is a start.

·

I only buy one watch per year unless I sell some. The one watch I bought this year was a Monta Noble, which I picked up in early February and wore a ton (it was my second most worn watch in 2023, despite it having a pink dial). I don't want my collection to grow to where I can't wear them all regularly. I will, at most, buy one watch next year. I'm thinking it will be either a Breitling Chronomat, GS Snowflake or an Omega Seamaster 300 Professional Seaweed.

·

I picked up three watches for myself Grand Seiko SBGE255 GMT, Longines Spirit Titaniumn and the Casio Oceanus S100. I gave away a Grand Seiko Diver Titaniumn and gifted three or four watches. I am looking at a Unimatic, Bulova Jetstar and an Orion Hellcat for 2024. All of those watches will be sidelined for 2025 if I buy my wife a Cartier Gold Tank

·

9 in 2023, (out of that 2 for my wife) 🫣

·

Around 15 for 2023, the plan is 3 tops for 2024 because lets face it watches are cool but when one takes a majority of their wrist shots in the car, buying a Porsche can be looked at as an investment for the hobby.

Where do you sell them, does it take long to sell ?

I've sold watches on Chrono24 and in a couple Facebook watch groups.

Some sell quite quickly. Others take a while. Perhaps paradoxically, I find it easier to sell expensive watches than more affordable ones.

I resently found tge swedosh brand Corniche. It's a MechaQuartz, but with ceramic dial and blued hands fir around 300 it looks like a good contribution at least for my box.

They’re a new one for me. Thanks I’ll definitely check them out.

·

Around 20 I think , some Aliex some seiko , a grand seiko & a couple of Vostoks I think

·

One new band and two new watches. Islander band for the Duro, a Seiko Ssb397, and a favorite now an Islander Upper Brookville.

·

I got three in 2023:

  • Casio F-105W

  • Casio G-Shock GW-M5610U

  • Swatch Mystic Sunrise (christmas present)

+ I got gifted a Prim Elegant

Goals for 2024:

Seiko Alpinist, and maybe later something cheap and cheerful. And some straps.

·

Too many. At least 15. Smh

·

Bought the one that really spoke to me - Jack Mason Strat-o-timer dark knight and love it; fantastic quality and value for money.

·

Bought one this year (Longines Spirit 37mm blue dial) and sold four, Seiko SPB143, Seiko 5 GMT and two cheap Casio's. Miss the SPB143 more than I thought so I'll maybe pick up a diver in 2024 🤙

Just the one this year. Probably going to stick to one next year so my gf doesn’t complain too much :). Thinking either a Breguet Classique or Lange 1815.

·

2023 I picked up just basic Casios and started modding. This year I might pick up 2.

·

For 2024, I only want the IWC Mark 20

For 2023, in order of purchase.

  1. Seiko SLA043

  2. Omega Railmaster 40mm Blue

  3. Tissot PRX Auto Black Dial 40mm (gift for friend)

  4. GS SBJE269

  5. GS SBGY007
