I’ll be honest with you man… you can’t go wrong with any of the classic oyster-case Rolex watches.

I have Black Bay 54 and an Explorer (124270). If I had gotten the 54 first, and was looking for an oyster Rolex, I would probably skip the Explorer (not that I have any complaints about mine) and go with an OP or Datejust.

Congratulations!

Which reference Explorer is this? 124279?

I like Roman numeral dials a lot. From an objective utilitarian perspective, I’d say that Arabic numerals beat the Romans out, but I find Roman numerals to be classy and functional (especially compared to batons or other non-numeric markers).

I’m very unsatisfied with the current datejust configurations. I miss the small printed Roman Numerals at the edge of the dials (currently found on the 34mm OPs), the railroad track (now exclusive to the 40mm DJ models), and the roulette date wheel. This year they’ve apparently dropped the “fluted” dial… why? Just a bunch of disappointments.

To actually contribute to your questions though, I believe the 36mm OP and 36mm DJ are in fact different sizes. The OP is a bit smaller, the DJ should be closer to a true 36mm. This explains why you perceive the DJ as being “wider.” It is.

Hand alignment issues drive me insane. If a watch has that problem it’s going straight back.
