What would be the perfect affordable one-and-done?

From my experience, the Seiko SRPE 'DressKX' would be a great candidate.

For about $200 (depending on where you live) you get a no-nonsense, sleek yet robust design, more than enough water resistance (for the average Joe), and reliable automatic movement.

I'd love to hear your opinion folks! What would be YOUR perfect affordable one-and-done?

Note* Affordable as in under $1000

One and done???

Really??

If you are looking for a "one and done" look elsewhere.

In the world of watch accumulators there is no such thing.

That's a nice Seiko but , at best, it's a one and what's next.

·

My brother that jubilee bracelet looks remarkable! If I may ask, where did you buy it?

Truth be told that Seiko is not the only watch in my collection.

My aim was to target collectors that have asked themselves the very same question at least once throughout their journey.

If you think that a 'one-and-done' is impossible, I'd love to hear your opinions.

If I had to choose an affordable one watch collection (GADA - go anywhere do anything), it would probably be the dressKX (or the new version), or the Hamilton khaki field automatic on a bracelet. On the expensive end, the Zinn 556.

I enjoy changing things up every day too much to stick to just one, though!!

·

Looking at my small collection, my Timex Expedition North mechanical might be what I'd go for. I think a simple field watch on a bracelet can go a long way! And in a not-affordable-at-all price range, an Omega Speedmaster might get my vote.

That being said, I prefer having a few ;)

I would agree that Seiko would be a great one and done. I have one, and it is one of my favorites. I have the two tone and I'm thinking about adding a regular stainless steel to the mix as well. If you don't mind quartz I would say another one and done is the quartz Longines Conquest, which also is under $1000, has a screw-down crown, and 300 m of water resistance.

·

one and do.....now i like the other one best

·

I have a couple of watches that would be capable of being "one and done". These are the ones I usually wear on business trips, let's say 3 to 5 day trips when I need some versatility and I limit myself to only one watch. Orient, Citizen, Seiko, Victorinox are my go-tos from my watch box. All of them affordable pieces.

Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto. I currently have a Field 38 mechanical and I love it, but if I could only have one to be done at under 1K, the King would be it. It has the day/date complication, a better clasp, and the ever so slightly bigger 40mm case.

There are some good deals going around for the original Tudor Black Bay 36 following the release of the new model. I far prefer the original, and ADs seem to be dumping old stock for 10-15% off.

For me, under 1000 I feel the 38mm Hamilton Murph can do it all. Great size, good WR, the fonts and handset give it character, plays nice on a range of straps so looks good in a variety of contexts and, like all Hamilton's in my experience, keeps superb time.

·

I would go with Traska Commuter

its around 600$ I believe.

Have you considered a vintage Smiths?

·

A sarb33/35 fits that bill for me, they are by far my most worn watches. There's really no situation other than diving that they aren't suitable for.

Under $1000? 😮 Sign me up, they are the equivalent of 3.5k over here.

It’s getting tougher these days, but any Seiko Alpinist could potentially be that one and done watch (if that is even possible for people lurking in these parts). And there’s enough diversity in the line up depending on lifestyle.

But honestly if someone could go even a few hundred more over that 1k limit you might be able to find a decent pre-owned Grand Seiko quartz.

·

Can’t remember its number off the top of my head but this would be my choice!

If I have to get up in the middle of the night I can use the lume to highlight where my slippers are under the bed 😂

I would say a GS snow flake or a Rolex datejust.... but given the price cap,

Bulova Accutron.

Got to go with the tissue prx

I ordered the SRPE63 (blue dial, brushed case) two days ago from Long Island Watch. Spent lots of time researching which model to get. Will post my experience in a couple weeks.

·

With my current collection it would be my orient ray 2. Looks good on a lot of different straps and I don't get dressy often but on the jubilee I could get away with it.

One and done is usually performed in your 60s 😂 as all the circling sharks ( family / kids ) start asking what are you going to leave me when you die !! Cheeky buggers …. But in saying that the last one standing will probably be what won the wear me battle over years !!!!! Not weeks and months like you young blokes and girls think in . 🙂

I love simple watches . This one’s symmetry is absolutely spot on and a good GADA to boot .

Incredible roster brother. I'm assuming the Citizen's an Eco-Drive model?

Indeed an Eco Drive.

Cristopher Ward C63 in white or black is on my radar for a very good do it all travel watch. just bring a NATO or another strap if you must.

Hahahaha. Trust me, I might be a fetus but I get the whole one-and-done thing. In fact, this Seiko was my only watch for two years. If I hadn't stumbled upon G-Shocks, it would've been my only one for many more to come!

Totally agree
