Rolex has moved themselves up the premium ladder quite a bit compared to Omega, but Omega is fast pushing that envelope as well.
In terms of mechanical quality, they are in the same ballpark.
Which will last longer? How long are you looking at? 50 years? 100 years? 200 years? Really depends if the art of watchmaking survives at the timeframe you want your watch to last till.
That said, @benandwatch let us know if you can't iron out the problem and still need us to chip in to clear the watch for now. I don't mind contributing for this round, but we will have to re-evaluate if this becomes a recurring occurrence.
Yes, typically if watches are not a dutiable product in a country, there should not be import tariffs if the value of the watch does not exceed a certain threshold, though in certain countries, tax (consumption tax/GST/VAT) will be imposed on goods regardless it is declared as a gift or $0 value. If declared at $0 value and it is deemed necessary to be taxed, Customs will likely value the item based on what they feel is the average price of such an item. This could mean you pay a lot more than you should.
The plus side of having this incredibly ridiculous number is you can depreciate the watch over the years it is precise and tell your wife that this watch practically costs nothing a year*!
NB: The perpetual calender doesn’t need adjusting till 3999 and it’s the moonphase that is claimed to be precise to 45,000,000 years.
*service costs not included 😆
Thank you @Edge168n for organising this again!
Once again I’ve donated to Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders.
There is so much happening around the world that require doctors to go give medical aid. This is just a tiny bit to help.
