About Vintage Travel Watch 2024

Good Morning Watch Friends

All has gone a little quiet on the watch front lately. The problem, see below.

I require a little help from you, the #aboutvintage watch is currently docked awaiting payment in Ireland, 142 euros for import taxes. I know it’s a big ask, but @demian and myself weren’t expecting such a big import tax payment. It’s only from Scotland to Ireland!

Can anyone help out, I’m obviously going to chip in. I’d like the journey to continue but totally understand the high import prices, I didn’t get this with the #watchjourney2023 (besides the mega help from @UnholiestJedi) or currently with the #watchjourney2024

I’m not sure how to continue without the help of the watch community. I can see a few more situations where we might need to club together. Please let me know what you all think.

@FeebleWrists UK – thank you

@Barkovitch SCOTLAND – thank you

@demian IRELAND – currently stuck with Import taxes

@Yonder SCOTLAND - could end up missing you

Well, cannot expect @demian to stump up that much, he needs some funds for the Guiness. Although not a part of #aboutvintage I am happy to chip in. Start up a fund me something or other.

Thanks Paul I think it might be through PayPal just waiting for others to reply

If it’s coming straight to me from Ireland I won’t have the big import taxes so I can chip in.

Japan’s custom tariff for watches is zero as long as it is for individual usage. If the invoice value is under JPY 200,000 (approx. US$ 1,300) the custom tariff will be zero even if the import was for commercial purposes. I think many countries have similar regulations. Could you tell me how the shipping documents are written? It’s not that I don’t want to help. Maybe an alteration (or a reissue) of the documents might make things easier through the remaining process.

Agree with @ichibra -Why is there tariff for a transit watch? Don't declare as a 'watch purchase'. Declare it as a 'valueless gift' for fundraising.

It's not purchase, there is no duty or tax, as I understand it.

$205 Canadian for a short transfer?

That works out to... $3600 CAD for moving the watch around to everyone 😬🤪 For even one transfer cost like that, the whole procedure starts seeming not worth it.

I'm happy donating to charity, paying import taxes isn't a charity (travel watch isn't a charity, is it? If I'm wrong please correct me!).

I totally agree with you, I wasn’t expecting this, I’ll see what can be changed for the future 👍🏼

I think they have posted it wrong, used the wrong title for the postage, hopefully I can iron any problem out and get the watch going again 👍🏼

Yes, typically if watches are not a dutiable product in a country, there should not be import tariffs if the value of the watch does not exceed a certain threshold, though in certain countries, tax (consumption tax/GST/VAT) will be imposed on goods regardless it is declared as a gift or $0 value. If declared at $0 value and it is deemed necessary to be taxed, Customs will likely value the item based on what they feel is the average price of such an item. This could mean you pay a lot more than you should.

·

That said, @benandwatch let us know if you can't iron out the problem and still need us to chip in to clear the watch for now. I don't mind contributing for this round, but we will have to re-evaluate if this becomes a recurring occurrence.

I totally understand thank you, I’m hoping it’s a glitch and the rest of the journey goes smoothly, after Europe it’s America and Canada, then Singapore and Australia 😳
