"Chrono-Cravings: Which Watches Tempt You Every Time But Stay Unpurchased?"

What are the watches that you are tempted to buy every time you see them, but for some reason just can’t pull the trigger?

For me, it’s the latest Moonwatch. I want one but just can’t ever justify the purchase.

Yup, moonwatch for me too - my SM300 cost nearly £500 to service & it's the to thought of how much maintenance will cost that stops me. It's the only chronograph I like.

·

I have many, but mostly inexpensive and I'm trying not to just buy everything all at once. The only expensive one I struggle with is the Daytona, for the same reason. It's an £9k watch with a £13k price tag. There are so many better watches for that money, but I still get drawn to it. Fortunately I don't feel the urge to spend big at the moment so it's not an issue for this year.

·

For me it's the JLC reverso, it's the original "sports watch" and that is the attraction although it is in the dress watch category these days. The ability to flip the watch makes sense if you have a 2nd time zone or a nice complication on the reverse side, but the base models it just gives you a shiny blank stare. The more complicated ones are pricy, and I am not into dress watches as much as I am into sports watches only because I hardly ever dress up from jeans/shorts/tshirts.

Omega Planet Ocean, many different iterations probably the reason too many choices. The watch keeps increasing in MSRP but every time I am ready to put down my credit card some other brand or Omega gets my attention. Finally looking at ceramic PO GMT model.

·

For me – The Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33. I have seen them at reasonable / low prices and I just can't do it. And I LOVE all timepieces associated with space travel and aviation. I have a Speedmaster Moonwatch and 2 Lunar Pilots.

·

For me it was the Omega Moonwatch until I finally found the courage to buy one, it’s amazing and I love it, I got the sapphire sandwich, I’d say do it you won’t retreat it.

It was same watch for me and after few years of back and forth at AD I finally bought hesalite version 3 weeks ago. Loving it, you won't regret it if you opt for one

·

The server on this web doesn't support such a long data

I must admit that reason for it is mainly budget wise 😁

·

Yeah it's the Speedy Pro. I just never liked how it wore on my smaller wrist. I ended up getting a Speedmaster Reduced which works better but the moonwatch is so iconic how can I NOT want it!?

·

It's also a chronograph, but in my case it's the Bulova Lunar Pilot.

First I justified my hesitancy by thinking that 45mm is too large for me. It really is but thaא would not have stopped me if I REALLY wanted to get it.

Now that there's a 43.5mm my excuse is that I don't want to buy one on a bracelet.

JLC just went nuts with price increases. I think it's no longer worry the $

I gave one to my brother who is a true nerd, has an extensive quartz collection and loves all things NASA. I knew he'd love it. The purchase was also my trial balloon. I could see the watch & even wear it before I own it. Selfish yet giving me 😆 🤣 😂! My brother actually loves the bracelet. This is a guy who orders a handful of leather, rubber, NATO straps for a watch he's going to buy ahead of time. The man loves to over tinker. Yet, the Lunar Pilot sits on the factory bracelet 🤔. He claims the watch is the most accurate timekeeping in his collection. Below are pics of his LP. He was wearing a Skyhawk the day the LP arrived. My reason so far for not buying is I wish the piece came out with an automatic movement as the original was. Stupid I know

The Shogun. If Seiko tossed the same movement as the Marinemaster 300m in this watch it wouldn't even make the shelves IMO but.... for now I keep thinking 🤔

Anything from the Grand Seiko SBGE 253/255/257 family. I don't have a GS in the collection, which means I also don't have a spring drive. I also don't have a GMT or a ceramic bezeled watch. I have tried this on probably 100x. Wears great, even at 14.7mm thick. Can't find a flaw with it. Also can't seem to pull the trigger on it, three years after first falling in love. I think it's because there is no texture to the dial and every time I reach for my credit card, I say "can I spend this much money and not get the one thing GS is famous for?" But I cannot find a textured dial GS that fits my style as much. If they sized down a few of their sports watches, I might find the perfect GS, but I remain on the hunt.

It would probably be the Nina Rindt Universal Geneve Compax Ref 885103012

Bro what Sugess is that?

Lovely, isn't it? The salmon is also worth a look, IMO.

Most of you are out of my price range. For me $500 is a lot of money. I’ve been thinking about this Hammy for over a year. I almost bought it 3 times. The first time I got the Baltic Aquascaphe instead. Then I got the Seiko Alpinist, and just this week I decided to get the Lorier Falcon instead of it. Maybe I don’t really want the Hammy. Maybe I keep getting close because it’s so popular on YouTube

Those are all fine watches! Price doesn’t necessary dictate how we feel towards these pieces of metal that keep time and you have a fine collection!

·

Speedmaster for me, the fact they upped the cost twice this year makes me hesitant.

That watch should be required in anyone's collection, IMO. Classic.

Yes, that's why I keep almost buying it. The dial seems a bit too busy and there isn't anything that pulls me to it. However, I'm from PA, Hamilton's original home, I respect their history with military watches, and the only Swiss watch I have is a Swatch and I'm not sure that counts. We'll see. I have a 12 slot watch box and 11 watches.

I was like that with the Speedy Pro too. I broke down one day and bought one. It remained mostly unworn and only stayed for about a year. I don’t miss it.

Currently, I am still in this situation with the Khaki. It seems like a value proposition on the surface and completely affordable but I’ve never been able to lay down my card for it. I’ve even gone to the store with the specific intent to buy a Khaki but couldn’t do it.

·

Even for me it's same watch omega speedmaster but my reason is lack of money 😅 for pulling a trigger you need that

·

Back and forth with MOTM but finally pulled the trigger on the older 1861 before the price hike love it! I have 7.5” so it wears well

·

Speedmaster Reduced

·

For the last 19 years, it's been the Seiko Samurai. They always seem to be coming out with a new version that I both love but just can't justify.

First, it was the original titanium in blue, when I didn't have enough money in the budget

Image

And then the stainless steel, which was cheaper, but I didn't like the hands

Image

And then the limited editions, that were too hard to get

Image

And now, they have all these Save the Oceans, that I think are so beautiful, but are too big for my wrists 😫

Mine is the Daytona too. The first chrono I really fell in love with. But it's the size of it (at 'only' 40mm) combined with the cost. Kills it for me every time.
