Problems with my Seiko

Hey guys, I recently got a problem with my Seiko SPB187 and the 6R35 movement. I'm thinking about selling it but I am not sure. So I would like to hea...

Time for some orange. But how much?

I've had an Skx013 with a steel bezel on a orange rubber strap back then. I sold it and I miss the colour orange. So I was thinking about several options. I really want to have an orange rubber strap....

commented on Entry Level Rant ·

I totally agree with you. In my opinion we shouldn‘t put watches in different levels because of the price. I understand your rant.

Of course there are different level of quality’s. But that is an aspect of a watch. That does not rate the watch itself.

I think putting watches in different levels like entry, mid level and so on is dangerous. It can destroy the hobby and can result in watch snobbery. The hobby should be about the watch itself, not about external factors. To relate to your example. The BB58 is a 3000$ + watch. That is by no means a cheap watch. I think it’s only regarded as an entry watch by some people because Tudor is the „cheaper“ sister company of Rolex. So it’s cheap out of Rolex perspective but that is only relativ. Absolut it’s still a lot of money.

And why should a watch only be for beginners? Because of the price? Makes no sense to me at all. If you would think this way some guy with enormous experience but with a lower budget is a beginner and someone who has a lot of money is a serious collector? No that does not make any sense to me at all. No doubt there are watches that fit more situations, watches that are not so expensive and are easier to buy to get experience with watches. That are points that might be important for people that start this hobby. But that doesn’t do anything to the watch. The BB58 for example is a watch that fit many situations. A watch you can wear in any moment. A watch that can do it all. So that is an aspect why someone who starts watches and only has one watch might be more interested in this watch than in a fragile dresswatch. But like I said, it’s an aspect for someone but nothing that change the watch to a higher or lower level watch.

I think the term is a result of a misunderstanding in the first place and developed because of watch snobbery. Of course everybody has his or her own price range for watches. But that is personal and not related to the watches. But we need to take care that we still have respect for any watch. The term „entry-level“ has the risk of disrespecting watches in a certain way. And we should support this. I agree with @KristianG that most people aren‘t indend to „disrespecting“ certain watches. You can lose touch with the world outside of the hobby easily. Couldn’t agree more. But we don‘t need to support this and we can have an impact by not using this term without putting it in perspective.

Congratulations to this stunning watch!

I think as a watch enthusiast the most important point is that you like the watch. "Pound for pound the best watch" is in my eyes only a excuse or an attempt to pretend that the choice is rational. But I think the watch enthusiasm shouldn't be rational. Watches should been picked by emotions.

commented on Small(er) Watches the Next Big Thing? ·

I think the standard watch size will decrease a little bit. I don't think that the standard size of men watches are going to be 34mm again but maybe around 38mm to 40mm.

On one side I think it's cool that watches especially for people with smaller wrists are going to be more wearable again. I've got a 16.5 cm wrist and everything bigger than 40 seems to be on the edge of what I can wear so that I sometimes consider selling all my 40mm+ watches (never ending story of debating with myself about it 😂) . So would be great for me in the first place.

On the other side I fear that all watches are going to get small and that the variety gets lost. In my opinion the watch industry is a creative crisis. Old designs are getting copied and you do not have the feeling that new styles are invented. How often do you hear "its a homage to one model we've found in our archives". And I think that there might be the possibility that the same will happen with the size. That would be sad because everything would be the same.

I would like it, if some watches are getting smaller but some only will exist in larger others therefor in smaller sizes. Otherwise it would get a little boring.

The BB 36mm and 39mm with the sunburst blue dial are my highlight of the Tudor releases.

Bit disappointed by the GMT to be honest.

I think it will be back in 2026. At least I definitely hope so. It's just a cool looking watch. Idk why but I think the Milgaus is simply a cool watch.

commented on Seiko SPB143. Would you get something different in this price range? ·

I had to decide between the SPB149 and the SPB187. Both were nearly the same price. I really wanted to have a blue diver so I went with the SPB187 because of the rich blue sunburst dial.

I also prefer the case and the bracelet. First of all the shape of the case is beautiful to look at with those polished and brushed surfaces. And the watch doesn't wear big. Of course 42mm is definitely not a small watch by any means but it sounds bigger as it wears. I've got small wrist with 16.5cm and I can pull it off.

I know many people don't like Seiko bracelets. But I like the look of the middle links with the tiny polished surfaces between them. So you don't buy the watch for the bracelet but I would say it's a solid bracelet and I had the feeling that it's more refined than the one of the SPB149.

The movement is the same. Well what should I say... The 6R35 is not so good in keeping the time when you put it down on the table over night (nothing like an ETA 2824 or a Sellita SW 200 they are much better) but on the wrist its not that bad.

Might be interesting for some of you that there will be a GMT Version of the MM200 which looks great on photos and will be around 1700 € if I remember correctly.

For me personally the look is the most important thing. If I don't like the look of the watch I wouldn't buy it. Movement can be the best in the world. At the end of the day I see the watch by itself more often than I see the movement. But the movement is an important part of the watch. So the movement is an argument for sure. But for me personally a movement by itself isn't always a deal breaker.

As we probably all know there isn't the perfect watch. So there will be always something we think that could have been done better. But to be honest the combination of price and movement is an important argument for me personally. I think everybody should have his own scale of what is worth it and what is just too expensive.

But it's only an argument. Never the only reason.
