Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms. Did you get one?

The Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection takes a playful approach to the iconic Fifty Fathoms scuba diving watch, which was first introduced 70 years ago as the first true diver’s watch. The 42.3mm case of the watch is nearly identical to that of the stainless steel Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Series I. The watch boasts a very specific depth rating of 91m, equivalent to exactly fifty fathoms. The bezel on the Bioceramic Fifty Fathoms uses the same mechanics as on the stainless steel version. This watch is powered by Swatch's Sistem51 movement, known for its one-screw design and hermetically-sealed construction, offering a 90 hours of power reserve. The movement is visible through an exhibition caseback and features a laser-etched Easter egg on each watch.

In comparison to the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch, it feels substantially sturdier, albeit thicker, measuring at 14.4mm. Adding a two-pass NATO strap to the equation results in the watch sitting relatively high on your wrist. Unlike the MoonSwatch, changing the straps requires a special tool to unscrew the fixed bars from the case. Hence, we have chosen to introduce a custom line of five Single Pass Leather NATO straps, individually tailored to each model, to facilitate a seamless strap-changing experience.

I really like this watch and would choose it over the MoonSwatch. What are your thoughts on this new collaboration? Are you planning to get one for yourself?

Good looking watch 👏

·

Can’t afford it! After Richard Mille, it’s most expensive plastic Watch😉. Nice looking watch and you matched it up nicely..

Not yet ...but I keep dropping hints to my Mrs , what with Christmas on the way...🤞🏻🤞🏻

I don't own one and I don't have any interest in either this one of the Moonswatch. Nothing against people who do, these watches just aren't for me.

·

I would rather slam my fingers in a door

·

Are you working for swatch? It seems like a marketing post

Does TwoStitchStraps work for Swatch?

Does he work for TwoStitchStraps though - that’s the question we all need to be asking? It’s not obvious… but I have my suspicions…

·

Their uber-restrictive availability to source one is reason enough not to buy.

Plus the nearest Swatch store is 200+ miles from Boston.

·

Good looking watch but way to expensive at $500 CAD. To many good watches at that price point. Enjoy the watch though 🍻

·

Sorry, no Swatch is worth more than $100.

Have you told them that? I think they would appreciate the feedback directly.

By not purchasing one, yes.

·

Yup

Since I always liked Blancpain but wouldn’t buy one due to its massive size. You know small tiny wrist 😅

It’s actually pretty nice, but I dislike the NaTO strap so I ordered a rubber one from AliExpress.

PS. WC forks seem to hate swatch especially the collars, so we’re gonna be a lot of hate here 😆 but I understand why

and Tissot, Omega, Mido, Longines… you’ve not added anything to the Swatch Groups bottom line? You feel that strongly about it?

·

Looks great! If you cannot afford to lose it without pain, you really cannot afford to have it. So much easier to enjoy as relatively (still not cheap) less expensive watch over something like the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms which is beautiful too. Maybe not quite as nice looking as yours.

I wish I had a missus 🤣

No interest is this or moonswatch. These things are about branding than watch making IMHO

·

I've gone from rolling my eyes and shaking my head on it's release, to hmmm 🤔 it doesn't look too bad. 👍

·

I'll keep the one I have..But they did a nice job with it..If it gets more folks into watches Im all for it..

We could talk so much about what's worth in all watch industry.

*Squints disapprovingly at Richaed Mille, Hublot, Rolex, Seiko, and others...*

·

I have 3 out of the 5 love them, I have a rubber strap from Horus on one a, Sailcloth one from Hirsch in the other. The Arctic one still in stock NATO which I’m not too keen on

·

If I wanted a fake 50 Fathoms Stelkdive does a way better job for less than hslf that and its steel.

·

Tempting...my wife even wanted me to get the full set...

I decided to pass despite how cool they are.

But I got this one instead 😉

Nope, I think stencilling big name brands on cheap plastic watches is a terrible practice. It creates totally the wrong vibe around watch collecting, specifically that it’s all about brand names. If this watch was sold with just Swatch on the dial, it wouldn’t sell half as many. It’d just be a cheap plastic Swatch. Because at the end of the day, even with the big brand name in it, that’s all it is.

Are you sure ? I think few outside of the watch bubble ever heard of Blancpain ? And swatch is associated with not being expensive. I am not sure the branding means much to me and I am relatively in the know. I think they look great and if they work well for 5+ years, are a good value. As far as watchmaking, it is largely industrialized these days, no rows of watch makers wearing monocular or doing hand carving in the movements for 95% of watches. Many premium watches are only hand assembled and adjusted.

am i sure about my opinion? Yes I am sure. If this was not a branding, they wouldn't put Blancpain on a plastic watch

·

Well, If I ask my wife or co-workers, I am sure. Rolex, yes, Swatch Yes, Seiko, Casio, and maybe a handful of others that sell far more units than Blancpain, but much deeper and I think few know, at least in my world. If you hang with watch aficionados, the executives and high rollers of the world you world would be very different than mine.

·

I like it , not sure on the price though….. for $400 that’s stretch. If the opportunity arises and I’m not chasing other windmills I may dip my toe in the pool. For now I will admire from afar . Good pickup though !

·

I looked at them in Antwerp when they were released. For me they are awful just like the other plastic thing that was released. But if you love it then that is all that matters.
