I am considering buying a MoonSwatch.

I have been looking at MoonSwatches lately (specifically the Uranus version). The reason I haven't pulled the trigger yet, is the quality, I am scared of buying a watch I can't wear without fearing for damage. So if you have bought a MoonSwatch, have you regretted buying one or should I go for it?

I have the Pluto. While I don't regret buying it, I'll also say that I knew what I was getting when I did . . . and I rarely wear it out of the house. For me it's a collectable, a piece of watch history (no, not the moon landing so much as an unprecedented marketing campaign that took the watch world by storm and the collaboration of two Swatch Group brands). It's fun and a pop of color . . . something I like looking at while I'm hanging out in the back yard. I was fine with that purchase knowing that it wouldn't be a watch that was going to get a lot of wrist time, but something I enjoyed nonetheless. If you're wanting a watch that you want to wear without fear of breaking then this probably isn't it. It's a plastic watch. Nothing wrong with that of course . . . but you need to be realistic about what this is and what it is not . . . and it's not a Speedmaster.

I love mine, wear it fairly often and haven't had any issues with the quality or durability. Probably the watch that most consistantly gets noticed or commented on. Put it on a Perpetual strap and haven't even though about switching it back. Now for summer it's getting a lot more time on the wrist. If you can find one I would recommend it. Only comment I make that's negative, as with most Swatch this watch is quite noisy and the ticking is very noticeable.

Oh yeah . . . Put it on another strap. Makes a world of difference.

If you're worried about build quality then it's probably not for you.

I recently sold my Speedy and I was gifted this as a bit of fun, and that's exactly what it is. I've got enough 'real' watches. This just makes you smile.

I've not had any build issues, the chrono works and hands hit their marks. But I'm not going to be wearing it to do DIY or gardening. That's about as hard as my life gets so I can wear it 90% of the time.

I think I'll put it on tomorrow.

·

It's not for me. I've seen and handled a couple in the metal so to speak and I was not impressed. Its a cheap plastic watch and it looks and feels it. Not built to last. Over priced and over hyped. BUT I imagine if you keep it boxed and only wear it occasionally in a non hazardous environment it will remain an interesting curiosity?

Each to their own!

It comes down to your intended use for the watch. I wear mine to the office, or when out for a relatively sedate day of walking, sitting, driving, etc... For that sort of use, I love it. It's fun, colourful, and looks awesome.

If you want a watch for daily wear and hard use, don't pick one up, you'll be disappointed.

·

I’ve had a few and like them and - sure it’s not exactly rugged - but I’ve had no issues at all

·

I have three, and try to wear them on Speedy Tuesdays since I don't have an actual Speedy Pro. (My Omega collection is very skewered towards Seamasters)

I don't have big issues with their durability, but then I'd not bring them to harsh environments. (Me heading to office everyday is not exactly "harsh")

One recommendation I'd give is that if you're going to wear it daily, you should probably swap the straps.

For the same (or less) money you can get a G-shock. They won't scratch, the pushers won't fall off, the strap isn't pure garbage, and you can get solar.

The Citizen is also good advice.

I love my moon swatch, but it's my "fun" watch. Not a beater. I don't baby it, but I don't mess around with it. So far, no durability issues and I've had it for 3-4 months. I wear it a lot on weekends and it's exactly what I want.

Definitely needs a new strap though. Throw it on a rubber strap!

Don't get it if you want a speedy as you'll be disappointed. Don't get it if you don't want a swatch. This is not a speedy. It is, however, a fun little watch with a pop of color. Probably speaking, I don't understand why you'd get the mission to moon, but I guess there are folks who want simple and no color.

·

It depends on why you're buying it. It's a fun collectible. I love mine, but only wear it on occasion. If you're looking for something you're going to wear every day, then look elsewhere. But if you're a collector, then it's a great addition to your collection.

I was going to select B, but then I thought I should select C and send you on to Aliexpress.

Pagani Design has made a great looking version of the Uranus for approx. $100.

You don't need to worry about wearing this one around because it has excellent specs: sapphire crystal, stainless steel case and bracelet, and Seiko VK63 movement.

I don't have a wrist shot yet for this one as I just geppetto'd the bracelet.

I do have a wrist shot for the Alaska Project/Mars version:

The watch is really well made and stands up next to any microbrand charging $300-400 for essentially the same specs.

Go for it.

The worst that can happen is that later on you will decide that you made a terrible mistake that ruined your life.

·

I would get the new panda Diver chrono from Orient for that price. It is mentioned above.

Has anyone done a Uranus joke yet 🤣

Buy a Bulova Lunar Pilot instead, or a vintage Omega. You won't be worried about either falling to bits, they both have genuine history & you'll have something to pass on .

Lunar Pilot is a good call 👍

Not everyone has over $8,000 lying around. 😂

crap i didn’t even consider that

·

I love mine. I wear it all the time and haven’t had any issues with scratches, etc. I bought a nato strap to go with it, which looks way way better and is more comfortable that the one it comes with.

Apart from the new Moonshine gold, it's becoming a lot easier to buy a Moonswatch from the Swatch AD (depends where you live).

It is fun to own and wear, despite its shortcomings in quality. Wear it with care, as if it were a vintage dress watch, and it'll be fine.

For some, it might even be the only Swatch they ever care to buy in their lifetime.

Go for it. It sits next to my Speedy 3861 sapphire sandwich. Just get polywatch to buff out the scratches with a microfiber cloth.

It's difficult to justify the cost of a Moonswatch, because there are so many great alternatives for so much cheaper. But there is one thing those alternatives will never have - the Omega logo on the dial. Is that justification petty? Well, yeah. But we are talking about fashion here.

We all need to come to terms with the reality of the business: at the end of the day, Omega is aluxury fashion brand. Like Gucci. Or Louis Vuitton. Or Cartier. Luxury branding simply commands high prices, because the actual commodity is exclusivity.

For example: when Gucci did a fashion collab with Adidas, they were selling Gucci branded Adidas shoes and slippers for hundreds of dollars more than identical, non Gucci branded Adidas footwear. Could you find a better deal on alternatives? Absolutely. But the people buying these $800 shoes, they are not buying them to do yard work in; they are buying them because it's Gucci.

The Moonswatch is a fashion collab between Swatch and Omega. It's a Swatch watch, with Omega branding. That's it. Also imo, it's actually pretty fun to look at.

If you are okay with paying $250 of an Omega branded Swatch watch, and fully understand that what you are buying is a plastic Swatch watch - not a plastic Omega Speedmaster - then go for it.

But if the price is still too steep, you need to really consider if buying a speedy homage will scratch that itch, because it may not. I have both a speedy homage and a Moonswatch - and for me, the Moonswatch hits different.

But recognize that it's just a fun fashion collab, not horology.

You could also buy a f..e one on Ali for 30€ to see if you like it, probably the same quality as well

Pick one up. just pick one up and handle it. In my case at least, any remaining urge to own one just dried up.
