What is the best field watch for non-field watch people?

Budget is around $1000-$1500. I’m not really into the field watch aesthetic but wanna hear yalls input on this.

I think the first step is what kinds of aesthetics ARE you into?

·

Khaki Field Automatic. Great watch.

·

Lorier Falcon. Save the rest for straps or a different watch.

$500US.

Falcon's a good one for acrylic fans. Maybe the best for the price for them.

Hamilton

The Mad Hacker, naturally!

Though investing north of a grand when you're "not a field watch person" seems counterintuitive...

If you want a proper military field watch, worn by actual serving military, you're really looking for a G-Shock DW-5600

·

Can't go wrong with the khaki field auto for sure. Right now I'm enamored with the @Clemence_Watches Munro. There may be some available soon. Traska Summiteer is another good option.

·

People mostly buy field watches for their esthetic since anyone who does need a watch in the field will get something like a G-Shock. That's basically what I and most of the other soldiers around me wore when I was still in active duty.

Now if you are like me and think that the esthetics of a field watch is nothing to write home about, but you still want something that kinda look fieldy then your options are probably a 369 watch with a painted dial - such as the Lorier Falcon mentioned above, or a more modern interpretation that actually has a military connection like the Marathon General Purpose which has enough variants both in quartz and mechanical to satisfy a lot of tastes.

My "dream" field watch right now is a Lorier Falcon SIII (Series 3).

It borrows quite a bit from the icons in the genre with it's vintage looks, but it's still it's own thing and at $500 is a great value as well.

Sadly, it's not currently available from Lorier (hopefully restocked in the next couple of months), but I do see them pop up on eBay once in awhile.

Props to @solidyetti & @Dallen for beating me to the punch.

·

Ive been looking at the Bulova and CWC field watches and I am sorely tempted to get one. Check them out!

They will be in stock again. They go quick, and I had to wait until the series III, but it was worth it.

Agreed on all points.

Seiko SNK381. Swap the movement to an NH36 and you're good to go.

Or keep the shake to wake me movement 😂.

Still a great watch, with an extremely well earned place in horological history as watches worn by hard dudes, doing hard things, in hard places...👀🤏🏻🤙🏻.

Go for the CWC! 👍

·

Save a few quid/bucks and go for a Clemance Munro on the bracelet.

Hamilton Field Expedition. May have “field” in its name, but really more of an adventure watch!

This one gets my vote.

·

The Hamilton Field Expedition is pretty amazing ( from what I have seen). And it even has a compass!!

·

Formex Field. It’s a field watch that doesn’t really look like a traditional field watch. It’s really hard to find a better made watch for $800.

·
grand.psycho

How about a cheeky little Formex?

Lots of strap options, Selita inside, sandwich dial, 150m WR, around $750

This is my recommendation as well! Amazing watches.

·

Sinn. Great watch. And they have a few that have nicer dials so they don't look so "outdoorsy"

·

Some other brands you may want to check out for non-traditional yet still field watches would be Boldr and Vero.

·

Marathon GSAR

·

I'd put in a vote for Serica 6190. There are a few different dial variations to choose from.

·

Hamilton Khaki - no question…

·

This would be my choice

·

Hamilton Khaki Aufomatic in 38mm. Quality piece.

·

Hamilton Murph 38mm or any of Seiko Alpinist, IMO.

·

These two...

@Fieldwalker suggests a fun field watch when fielding for a non field field fan!.

I field many field watches myself, so place your trust in the field Fieldwalker fields.

I’ve finally decided… after reading thru all the comments and suggestions. My field watch selection is the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date. Thank you to everyone that has contributed their thoughts and photos. Lots of great watches. I can make a whole video on this thread alone 🤝
