Welcome to another installment of the occasional watch under the microscope.
Today, we'll be venturing into Chinese waters with the Sugess mechanical chronograph. I bought this watch to try out a mechanical chronograph and I honestly don't know of a cheaper way to go. It was the Seagull movement, featuring a column wheel and swan neck regulation, that was the main attraction. And indeed, the view through the mineral crystal back (the front is a beautifully domed sapphire) is hypnotic. Understandably, a closer look reveals reserves in the machining, but more on that in a moment. So let's take a closer look at this mechanical marvel (considering the price).
I will focus mainly on the movement. The workmanship is fine, unfortunately I don't have much to compare in this respect. At least that's true when looking with the naked eye. Under the microscope, the flaws that are due to the machine production are revealed. The screws are blue, however, not heat-blued. Various knocks, imperfections and dust are omnipresent.
Looking at the dial, I have to commend the decent print quality and quite nicely crafted hands with minimal dirt. The indices are not perfect, plus the lume layer is really weak and the watch can only glow for a short time, and even then very weakly. What should be praised is the red end of the chronograph seconds hand. Many big brands don't handle this detail this nicely.
To summarize, for a price under $200 one gets a mechanical chronograph with a column wheel, decent workmanship, a beautiful domed sapphire, and a really nice view of all that mechanical beauty with an interesting history.
As always, please excuse the quality of the photos. Everything is taken with a kids' microscope, which also needs a lot of light, so the shots show what is hidden not only to the eye, but also to the macro lens of the photo camera.

Always love your micro series sir. May I know how do you make this photos. Is it possible to take it with my Samsung phone?

I am glad you like them. Most of them were taken with children's microscope. Nikon D3100 took ordinary macros with extension tubes and a cheap lens. I know some folks are able to take breathtaking photos using just iPhone, I can't :-)
