Watches under microscope vol. 5 Seiko SRP777 Turtle

Welcome to the fifth part of the watches under the microscope. This time we're taking a closer look at the Seiko SRP777, or turtle watch.

The watch is nicely crafted, two ranks better than the SKX007, with which it practically shares a dial. The indices are framed by a thin silver line and lume filling (the lume is also multiples better on the SRP777 than on the SKX007, where the lume is really weak).

The printing on the dial is also well done. Interestingly, the day-date complication has the printing done differently in each window - the day of the week is printed much more plastically than the date.

At really high magnification, the defects on the hands are noticeable - apart from the usual scratches and dots, there are some sort of blemishes on the silver finish of the hands. I have no idea how the hands were made, but here it looks like imperfections in this process.

The lume pip on the bazel, covered with hardlex, also looks good and clean.

As always, please excuse the quality of the photos. They were taken with a children's microscope, which really requires a lot of light - it reveals things that are normally hidden even from the view of the camera's macro lens.

Looks fantastic!

Great pics 👍

I’m trying to find a way to do this with an iPhone camera and some mag lenses

Would like to see my GS models vs Swiss at the ~ 5k mark

I don't recommend doing that. It will make you buy more Grand Seiko watches and these are expensive 😀

I love seeing these!

What's next under the lens??

I am thinking about Wise Adamascus AD8 or San Martin SN007. Both represent absolute top finishing 👍

Ooo they will be good!

At some point a side by side comparison at different price points would be cool.

That looks fantastic for a $375 Driver. They seem to be great watches at a great price.

Have you tried Seiko5 watches known for great finishing for under USD200? I don't have the same equipment as you, but some good options for future editions of your awesome series could be the SNXS7x series and the SNKL4x series.

Here's my SNXS79...

I even have SNXS79 in my collection :-) (see a shot in my profile) Others are SNZH53 and SNZH57 + SNZG17. I will add them here too. I have even photograph them but this needs some to process and tbh I am learning how to use this properly so shots could be nicer and more interesting
