San Martin SN0116 under the microscope

Today we take a closer look at an original creation of the Chinese brand San Martin, namely the SN0116 model with GMT function.

The watch is equipped with a 38 mm steel case, domed sapphire crystal and a 24-hour bidirectional ceramic bezel with 24 clicks. Inside beats a Seiko NH34 movement with GMT complication.

As always with the San Martin, the absolutely superb workmanship of the case is to be highlighted, with its finely brushed surfaces complementing the surfaces with a high gloss finish. The watch comes with a "Beads of Rice" bracelet. Each link is a separate piece of metal and thus adapts beautifully to the wrist. As an added benefit, I see the clasp with micro-adjustment. The ends of the bracelet fits to the case with absolutely no gap.

I will now try to describe how the watch looks under the lens of a microscope. Great workmanship is the rule with San Martin watches, and this model is no different. There are only a few imperfections and most of the flaws in the video are highlighted by the strong lighting. In particular I must highlight the incredible application of the lume layer and the overall clarity and execution of the indices, I have not seen such high quality workmanship from any other manufacturer. The matte dial with its rough texture is free of dust - that dial texture continues on the date wheel, which again is a very nice detail. The dial printing is fine. The paint on the GMT hand and second hand is applied evenly. The brushed and glossy surfaces of the case relate to each other perfectly.

To sum it up - this is an incredibly well-made watch, not only considering the price, but also in the best sense of the word. Personally, I'd just like to see a more interesting design of the caseback, but that's really a minor flaw.

As always, please excuse the quality of the shots, which were taken with a kids microscope. At the same time, keep in mind that the lighting and extreme magnification make even those flaws that are otherwise hidden to the observer's eye stand out.

Excuse the quality of the video. I thought it was brilliant, loved the second hand sweeping past the GMT hand. 😍

Love these macro shot videos to learn more about the watches we buy! 👌

And kudos to San Martin for such impeccable finishing at a reasonable price, proving once again you don't need to spend silly luxury money to own an exquisite watch these days. 👏

I am glad you like it. This equipment is far from optimal for this task :-)

I am really not a fan of these blatant hommage/copy watch companies but you have to give them credit for quality of finish compared to the price. Some brands should learn from them ( looking at you Seiko ).

This is their original design amd yes quality is outstanding.

Being able to do this kind of quality, and present this beautiful watch, I think it’s a pity they have to ruin his image with those homages they do.

I don’t know why anyone would want to own a San Martin or Pagani or you name the homage brand. Just be patient, save your money and buy the real thing. It’s totally worth the wait.
