Watches under microscope vol. 7 Seiko SNXS79

Welcome to the seventh episode of Watch Under the Microscope.

This time we will take a look at the available mechanical watches from the Japanese giant Seiko and specifically at the model from the popular 5 series - SNX79.

The watch cost me about 2200 CZK from the British Amazon, making it one of the cheapest mechanical watches in my collection. This watch has always taken great photos, which is due to the attractive sunburst dial and large indices with a large area of luminescence.

Looking closely, you can see imperfections on the hands and indices, and especially in the way the luminescent layer is applied. Seiko applies the lume layer in some form and then the rest of the index is filled with white paint. I have noticed this on several models, including the more expensive ones. It's an effective solution in that it's much easier for mass production. However, given the price of the watch, the result is perfectly adequate. Even the occasional dirt doesn't matter.

The printing on the dial is great, as is the printing on the date wheel of the 7S26 movement. The plastic logo has a few scratches and knocks, but you don't notice them in casual inspection. You can see dust here and there, but again, it is hidden when viewed with the eye. The 5 logo and the Seiko lettering are aligned straight. I managed to capture the bottom of the seconds hand in one shot - perfectly fine for me.

Overall, I personally find this watch to be absolutely superbly crafted for the price.

As always, please excuse the quality of the photos. Everything is taken on a children's microscope, which also needs really a lot of light, so the shots show what is hidden not only to the eye, but also to the macro lens of the photo camera.

Beautiful! This is a testament to how well made these watches are for the money. Loving mine. You can never go wrong with a 5.

It's interesting that models 5 are build better than for example SXK which is bad in almost all ways (I will upload it in the future)
