Luxury collections

When you're watching YouTube videos on watches and you see somebody reviewing or talking about any of the luxury brands Rolex, Omega, tutor, Philippe ect do you click on it or you so jaded from everyone having the same luxury watches that you look for something unique or different on watchs on watch.

I sometimes look at luxury watches just to see what's going on with them but I am too busy looking at watches that I CAN afford, like Casio G-Shocks and Citizen Eco-Drives. At this point in my life, I cannot see myself wearing a Rolex or a Phillippe.

I feel similar. Whilst it would be nice if I had a luxury watch. Anything above £500 to me isn’t really justifiable. Not saying I’ll never go above but as a general rule I can get what I want in that price range.

Luxury brands can do interesting things, but they are far from inherently interesting.

·

The only mainstream luxury brand I have interest in is Omega.

I do not watch reviews of any Rolex, Patek, VC, AP or the like. Like @tampabaycenter said, I only have so much time, energy & money to devote to this hobby and I can't spend it on watches/brands I'm not going to be able to own.

While I do watch the occasional luxury brand videos, seeing the new CW drop really got me excited. I guess seeing new releases of affordable watches really interest me. Now that I think about it, I do pay more close attention to brands like brew, formex and traska, just to name a few.

I picked answer A but should add that I actually like any watch that I think look good in my eyes. My watch journey so far has come to a point where I’m looking at higher quality fit and finish so that naturally leads to more interest in brands like Omega, GO or JLC. If any brand comes along that can match the design and quality that I like at a lower price point I’m all for it.

The big luxury brand that does nothing for me is Rolex. For some reason I have no interest in any of the Rolex lineup so tend to ignore Rolex related content.

I have no interest in Youtube influencers so....

·

It depends. There’s the luxury that I could “afford” by killing my savings account and being financially irresponsible, but I have future aspirations to afford (imagine the Speedmaster Moonwatch, the Rolex OP, etc), and the ultra-luxury grails I will never be able to afford (any Lange, the Nautilus, the Royal Oak). I’m not interested in reviews for watches in the second category.

Who is talking about it is more important than the watch they are talking about when I watch Youtube.

·

Tbh i don't click on any Rolex/Hublot/RM videos, and only begrudgingly on clickbait "this XYZ watch is better than a rolex" - if i'm interested in the watch.

·

I'm a sucker for issued Tudor/Rolex/Tornek-Rayville/Blancpain/ADANAC/Benrus/CWC/Seiko etc. And they rarely come up on YouTube. But it does happen.

When it does I always click those links and watch them.

The romantic in me just marvels at the idea of what that watch has seen and done. The stories it could tell as it were. It is also interesting to hear the accounts of the individual who wore the watch.

For example, Major Winters, who commanded Easy Company during WWII (Band of Brothers), never wore a watch again in his civilian life. He was tired of living his life "...right down to the second."

Luxury brands build the technology that eventually trickles down to the more affordable brands later. That is the only interesting part of luxury.

·

I don't really look at watches with intent to purchase, as I am already very content with what I own. I'm more fascinated with then in general. Because of that I'm just as interested in affordable watches as I am the luxury side of things

That said I really appreciate the reviewers who focus on the affordable end

The fact that a watch has a luxury brand doesn’t do anything for me. It takes much more than a name to be interesting. I spent more time looking at Accutron 2020 and spring drive videos than probably any other recently, just because the tech is cool and novel. Dissassemble/reassemble/repair watch videos also never get old for me.

·

I'm not interested at all in jewel encrusted pieces like that shown in the photo, but I will definitely look into pieces that appeal to me, regardless of whether they are well above or below my normal price point. I'm not willing to shell out the required amount of cash to own high end hand finished watches, but I can really appreciate the quality and craftsmanship that goes into them, and can easily understand why others may want to collect them.

·

I only watch review on anything lower than 1K, for watches 1K+ I’d rather try and experience it at the AD or boutique

·

I like to watch Nico and his Pride and Opinion. But more and more I like affordable watches. With all the thefts of Rolex and Pateks I like a more subdued watch which doesn't break the bank. Zelos, Citizen, Seiko, Casio are more my interests.

Unless it’s about my grail watch. Then I’ll watch it.
