Watch boxes

So I threw out a few watch boxes this morning. I made sure that the boxes I tossed were from watches I had no intention of getting rid of. What’s everyone’s take on boxes? Do you keep them in case you decide to sell or throw them out right away?

I'll keep the box just in case a favorable trade comes along or I get an offer I can't refuse. Ads always look better when they say "with box and papers", even though I wear the watch not the box.

I keep most boxes but I’m a bit ambivalent about it, it does take so much storage Space so I want to get rid of it but some boxes are nice though… 😮‍💨😵‍💫

·

I keep them for the most part. I think it increases the resale value if you are that way inclined, otherwise its nice to just have a full set with a watch. I keep the warranty cards and spare links in mine.

·

If I had a dime for each time I sold a watch I thought I’d never sell… I’d have about $1. I keep all boxes.

·

I keep them. It's part of my watch.

·

Keep em, cos you never know.... I store mine in the attic, yes might never see the light of day,but things change and one day you will pass them on and in some circumstances the box is important.

·

I've gotten into the habit of keeping them, just on the off chance I want to sell the watch down the road. That said, I put all of my watch boxes on a shelf and literally never look at or think about them. I much prefer when a brand packages their watch in a practical case, or at least something relatively small.

I have the box and papers for every watch that I have owned since I was 18 (I've never sold a watch).

As an example, a couple of months ago, I located my Citizen Skyhawk that had gone missing on me over the course of several moves.  But I had all of the documentation for it:

I keep them all, not because I want to sell them but because it’s part of the watch!

·

Gotta keep um

I keep this trash for no good reason too. Well, it's a decent place to store a bracelet link that gets removed for part of the year. Ultimately these stupid boxes will be covered in thick dust, a water leak will occur, or they'll all somehow get crushed. Getting rid of them will free me.

No item is truly yours until the packaging is discarded.

I have sufficient storage space, so I keep all my boxes. If storage space were at a premium for me, I'd have no difficulty in getting rid of the cardboard boxes from less expensive watches, but would still prefer to be able to keep the presentation boxes from higher end brands, where they can add hundreds of dollars to potential selling price.

I keep everything except any peel off stuff

·

I have chunked them out in the past, but now I'm getting in the habit of keeping them all in a container, with any receipts, paperwork, and extra bracelet links. I make sure to mark everything so I know what watch each goes with.

Don’t buy Longines is my take on this!

·

I keep every box/paper/accessoires on watches that are 1000€ or more

That‘a kind of my mentality. I’d love to keep the boxes but as you said space is at a premium for me, so out some of them go!

Impressive!

I generally keep them, but... The Pagani Explorer homage I got recently came in a huge box, and although I'm keeping it for the moment as it is a nice box, I don't have that amount of space. The smaller boxes are a nice way to keep the watches when I'm not wearing them.

A huge fight between my wife and I when we do our “spring cleaning”…throw them out or else!!!!

have to remind her if we decide to sell them, it may pay a little extra with the box and papers.

I know she would prefer the extra room in the closet for her 10k pair of shoes and 100 purses… 😂

Me going to the garage to store all of my watch boxes in plastic containers...

I keep every watch box, tag, papers, box sleeve and yes... even the protective plastic on the crystal and caseback regardless if I plan on keeping it forever or not so forever. I keep all of my watch boxes in a large snap lid plastic tub. So yeah... I buy a box to store my empty boxes.  It's just who I am.

·

I have kept them all. Every once in a while, I will put all my watches in their respective boxes and open them one at a time just to get a feel of opening a new watch.. Little pleasures only watch people would understand. My wife thinks I am insane.

·

I don’t own any really expensive pieces but yes I still have all the boxes, receipts and spare links etc. 🤭 I haven’t even organised my boxes into another box yet 😂

·

I keep all the boxes, in the outer boxes, and I even have the AD bags….. damn I’m insane.
