I don't expect people to pay attention to my posts, let alone remember any of my shifting options and wants.
I have been looking for a Exit-Watch or a watch to stabilize my tiny 3 (sometimes 4 ๐คซ) collection. Also I've been flirting with the idea of a luxury watch. My most luxurious watch so far was a Oris Sixty-Five which I keept for several years but sold/traded down for a Baby Alpinist earlier this year, which my youngest son dropped and broke..
I have been looking at several Aquaterras and some other stuff. But there is always something: don't like the bracelet, to much polish, the dial is not my taste or the PRICE ๐ฑ. The perfect combo doesn't exist...ย
I just decided to give the Blue Bay 36 a chance. It's perfect in many ways. Simple design, lots of personality, low maintenance cost, history, good bracelet, tooly look with mainly brushing, perfect size and just a little dash of luxury. It only remains to see if I can live without a date and see if I connect with the watch. I recently started saving.
But I found one used, 2018 model. And got it for 1850$ and that should be a good deal? So I jumped on it. I has some scratches but I need to have it serviced within a year or two and will have it brushed and polished then if I settle down with the watch.
Now the wait begins...

congratulations, but is there an exit watch for us? ๐

Well, I'm guessing it's just a pipe dream, but time will tell ๐
Congrats on a great watch and deal! Very Beautifulย
I'm guessing you will be very happy with this selection. You won't have to worry about this one cracking.ย
These are really well built watches. I own both Rolex and Tudor and the difference in quality is negligible. You will love this, at least until you start to feel that โitchโ again. ๐คช
You finally you have it, congrats! Now I'm inspired to get one for myself. By any chance you will be making a review for it?ย

Well I'm not gonna let my son try. He is a brutal creature ๐ค

Maybe.. I probably will write alot when I get it ๐ Maybe a review in time ๐
Lol sons are something else huh? Mine threw my skx and it broke, bought a FXD to replace it. It has been my exit watchโฆ in the dive watch category. Good luck!
Congratulations! ย That's an excellent choice.
Congratsโmy BB36 has basically been an exit watch for meโwas looking at similar watches as you and had the same issues (too much polish/sparkle (AT), too costly (also AT), too costly to service (also AT), only serviceable by the maker (also AT), etc.). The BB36 has been my only watch for a year. Truly GADA. Have swum in the ocean with it, and taken to โfancyโ places, never feels out of place. I still pay attention to the watch world but excitement about possible new watches has ebbed greatly and time on forums, etc, has greatly reduced with an arc toward zero. Absolutely an excellent watch.ย
ย
One thought: if itโs at all slow/fast (out of -4 to +6 which is tudors spec for non in house movements, I think) go ahead and send it for service at a Rolex Service Center (directlyโI use Dallas RSC, just call them and request a service box and theyโll mail it to you with instructions). They do an incredible job. Mineโs been running +\-0.5 spd and I wear it hard.
Good luck and enjoy.ย
I have a similar situation! I feel the same about the AT. Iโve seen some people try to get the bracelet fully brushed which helps. But still, Iโm not crazy about the dial for some reason, the watch is a bit flashy and expensive. Iโve owned the BB36 for about 8 months now and I love it! It was my grail since I started watch collecting and it lived up the the hype. The only issue is, I discovered and bought the BB58! I also thought of it as my grail and I might like it more. More interesting look, in house movement (not that I cared about the ETA in the BB36) but with a 70 hour power reserve which is a big plus. I seem to be wearing the 58 more lately. Iโve been toying with the idea of trading up the BB36 for a Grand Seiko SBGW231 as my dress watch and keeping the BB58 as my weekend watch. I work in the trades so I wear a Casio beater during the week. That would probably be my exit collection but who knows!ย
Lol nice pick! but I am 200% sure this wonโt be your exit watch. You will start looking for your next exit watch as soon as the honeymoon period with the BB36 is over.ย
I agree, if itโs your only watch the 36 makes more sense than a diver. But I am more of a two watch person so a diver and a dressy option works for me.ย
Agreeโif I have two, the second will be a Tudor diver, not sure which yet. Thinking FXD.ย
The exit watch is simply something we came up with to convince ourselves that we can impose limits on our collection....Lol
You are probably right, but I have stayed with the 3-4 watches max basically for my whole watch journey. So why could I not stick with another rule?
Good luck to you, hope youโve found what you were looking for.ย
Just curious, where did you buy it from? And how much do you anticipate the service cost for the watch?

Bought it on "Norwegian Craigslist" and drove a hard bargain. They usually go for between 2000-2500$ not matter condition or age. Service with polish/brush will cost me somewhere between 400 and 500$. After that one I'll use a hobby watchmaker that I have used before if he still at it and that will be half or less for movement only service.
Congrats on the purchase. The BB 36 is also at the top of my list for โexit watch.โ After you get some time with the BB36, Iโd love to hear your thoughts on no longer having a date function.
ย
As someone who uses the date function on my watch often, I love its utility, but do appreciate the aesthetic of a dial without it.ย
It's such a great watch. I have the black dial version and it is the closest I have ever come to an exit watch. Maybe one day...
Love the watch, and I totally prefer the dial without the date. ย I think you did pretty good picking it up used, I've done that more lately. ย The patience level has to be higher, but it is worth it.

Will do ๐
Love the simple design in the BB36. Def on my list of watches to buy as well
Nice choice! Love the smiley.
Awesome

Great choice, and solid rationale! enjoy!ย
Congrats! A great luxury watch that is robust and dependable.ย
