When is too many watches an addiction?

Hello fellow Crunchers

EDIT: I miscounted. It turns out I bought 8 watches including 1 I purchased today and not 6 as I originally posted. I couldn't even keep track of what I got last year!

Over the past 13 months (since January 2023) I have bought 8 watches. All of them have been far more expensive than the watches I have purchased previously, including getting a "grail" watch.

How do you know if you're developing an addiction or it was just a good run? I am fiscally responsible and could afford all the watches I purchased but I don't want to get too complacent about spending discretionary income on watches. Do you have guidelines you set for yourselves? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated before I get the itch again!

It’s only an addiction if you can’t afford to eat or pay the rent! 😛

·

Six in a year is probably a giveaway, regardless of cost.

·

6 watches in just over a year - you're addicted, my friend.

Get out now!... Whilst you can!...

😂

·

You’re asking the wrong crowd :) I bought eleven watches since March 2023 and I don’t think I have a problem 😂

But in all seriousness: as long as you can afford ALL necessities (house, family, school, some savings for a rainy day etc etc), feel free to spend some cash on something frivolous, like watches. Start to worry if you have to choose between food and a new watch 🙃

·

You have a problem. I go to a support group. It's my AD lol.

·

Addiction can be measured in one simple way, guilt. If you buy/consume & feel guilt, you're already on that well worn path. The normal human response to guilt is to lie. Lying to yourself firstly, lying to others comes next. If all of that is familiar, it's too late you're already there.

40.......

·

Fortunately I'm a cheapskate

·

Bought 4 myself in a year, nearing the fifth but somehow ı don't feel like an addict 😂

·

Fiscally responsible means you are not addicted, just focused 😜.

On the other hand, if you ever admit it is a problem, Horophiles Anonymous meetings are one of the best places to see some excellent wrist candy.

My wife is also my best friend, I was thinking out loud about a few watches that I hope to buy soon. She said that neither of us are getting younger, that we might need to move out of our brownstone into a condo perhaps sooner than we plan on. Start saving for 2 separate units because no way we can live together in a tight space!

·

6 ?

🤣🤣🤣 Your cute

·

6 watches in a year, that's cute 🤭

·

I bought 3 in 5 months. Probably will buy another one next week...

·

As long as you're buying watches you actually want and not "steppingstone" watches because you can't afford or otherwise get your hands on THE watch your heart actually desires, I say "go for it and enjoy the ride"!

·

LMAO.

We'll keep that your limit of your favorite watches and challenge yourself to no more than 25, one on your wrist and 24 in box.

That's a big big range of watches there if you fill it up right.

This inspired me to do some math on last year's watch collecting... You are doing alright; although now I think I might have a problem. 🤣🤣💸

·

Why not 365 or 366, so there's 1 watch for every single day of the year. There can be a 366th watch that is only worn on every leap year.

I have been there, I have done it 😎

·

21 Warches; one on the way; two wrist and only one of them used to accommodate a watch. Sound like a problem? Yes, but there’s others worse off than I. LOL

·

It all depends on whether you are a collector at heart and enjoy owning pieces nicely stored in pretty boxes, or someone who mostly enjoys wearing them.

If you’re a collector, there is no limit to how many watches you can own worry-free. If you’re like me, satisfaction is obtained when you have eventually understood what works for you. Can take a few years, though.

·

It happens. I've had watches delivered I didn't even know I'd ordered. 😉

That's an awesome collection! You should be proud and show let others know about the joy of watch appreciation and collecting!

Thanks! When the opportunity arises, I do. Many of my friends love it, and some think I lost my mind. lol

I just like more variety in the collection I guess.

I love having a wide variety of watches to choose from. I have a few core watches that get worn a lot and the others get sprinkled in here and there.

·

I can quit any time I want to 👀⚡️

·

Welcome to the support group, it is like liquor, it is nice to drink some, but too much will get you drunk, your measure is your own unfortunately.

·

In all honesty, it is better than liquor since still have secondary value unless you literally consume them.

Which one are you eyeing?

Christopher Ward C65 Dune Sand dial. Also on my list a Khaki Field mechanical. CW will come first for sure.

I’ve bought 8 in the past year. In my defense, 2 were for my wife. I haven’t counted another that’s on order and should be here in the next month or so. I have been asked to pump the brakes a little.
