You're buying a piece of history regardless of price, the question is where is your 51% leaning towards. If you've seen these watches side by side, you'd be able to decide a little easier based on your taste. I haven't purchased one of these Lunar watches yet, but when I do decide to pick one up, I will have a tough time too. In my opinion they will both scratch the same itch, what I would do is get regular lunar pilot and MIL-SHIPS-W-2181, and still have extra money left over for a dinner or whatever else you please for the $1500.
Some watches just look better without the date. In this case no-date on a vintage watch just looks better, and feels more vintage. I personally like date on more sporty look of a watch.
