I must sayโฆ Teddyโs team provides the best customer service Iโve experienced when buying a watch. I honestly think twice about a purchase if I canโt get it from their site. Iโll be in Cleveland this spring - Iโll have to stop by and check it out.
Very interesting. Guy makes a niche for himself using social media and online tools... and parlays it into bricks and mortar, which is what online's been running away from for 30 odd years. Sure, I get that it would be gratifying to have a bricks and mortar store with your name above the door, but it does seem the absolute antithesis of his business, to date.
That's pretty cool that he's opening a store. People can say whatever they want about it him, but he's knowledgeable and he's passionate about the watch industry.

This. Iโm saving up for a Spirit Zulu and talked with AJ a bit about the purchase. He was fantastic. Iโll be buying from them when the time comes.

Given that the only time Iโve ever been to Cleveland was when I was a patient at Cleveland Clinic, Iโve always wanted to go back to see the sights in better days (and visit a buddy). Now another attraction to add to the list! Go Teddy!

I'd guess it's exploratory as much as anything. Also, having a storefront helps the legitimacy of the online business for many who can buy a watch anywhere online. Just speculating!
Time & Tide and Worn & Wound have gone a similar path: started as watch press with a website and YouTube channel, then started an online shop, and now are opening stores (or in the case of W&W, doing watch fairs).
A lot of online-only clothing companies have found it worth while to open physical flagship stores. American Giant springs to mind. I canโt speak to the rationale myself, but it seems to be worthwhile. Certainly lower margin, but if it pays for itself and establishes Teddy as a legitimate watch retailer in Cleveland (and greater Ohio itself), it could lead to greater online sales as well.
Hope heโs successful!
Sure, I just find it interesting that the retail model has been running in the opposite direction for decades - in general - and he's elected to swim against the tide. Rent, payroll for a bunch of new staff, all sorts of expenses he's never had on the bottom line before now come into play. On the flipside of the coin, it's not like it's a boutique on Rodeo Drive, and I'm sure he's crunched the numbers before diving in. I just find it... yeah... interesting.

i think the watch boutiques on rodeo drive are doing pretty good tbh.

That's a glib sort of answer that totally misses the point of what I was saying. I'm making the point that a shop on Rodeo Drive would have pretty massive overheads that a store in Ohio wouldn't. Thus, it's not as expensive a venture, and is easier to set something up.
I hope his shop will also offer some watches in the budget range (< $250) so students can get their hands on inexpensive daily beaters to classy looking formals.

Not open yet! Couple more weeks I think. He got a spot right on the main strip! Happy to see him sticking in CLE for now.

Good for Teddy ! You canโt say he hadnโt worked his butt off for what heโs achieved
I'd love to visit, but then I'd be in Cleveland. ๐
One of the most trustworthy personalities in the watch world. I base this on nothing but a gut feeling.
I purchased my Ball watch through his website. The customer service was absolutely top notch.
Cool. I wish him the best.

Awesome! Now I have somewhere to go look at watches in the flesh. I'm in Sandusky. Just a hop, skip and a jump away.
Love Teddyโs content and the team. Best customer service Iโve ever experienced.

I have mixed feelings about Teddy. He seems to be a nice guy, but his association with Kevin O'Leary...
Thatโs awesome
Good for him.
Fair play to him, he seems to work hard ๐ช
Cleaveland?
Happy for Teddy hope that he doesnโt open one in a any major city with this grab and go itโs getting out of hand.
