Another pin and collar hate post.

I know when I’m beat, and I’m not going to try to put this abomination back together. But I’m also injured and can’t get to a jeweler for weeks.

So I guess there’s nothing to do for now but stare at this Save The Ocean Prospex from across the room, and dream of the collar’s inventor drowning in seawater.

My favourite watch in the whole world, apart from the bracelet.

·

Never understood the fuss. I find pin and collar easy to size. I don’t have to use loctite, nor deal with with watches that have loctite already applied to the screws (ahem… Tudor), making sizing a pain in the rear. Lasts longer than split / friction pins. A true set it and forget it system.

Pin and collar is the work of the devil. I have a guy for that and I don't even try anymore. Better to drop 10 bucks than go through the torment and agita associated with this heinous method of bracelet sizing.

Any limitation to one’s vision or manual dexterity, and those little collars are a nightmare. And you better have a setup where a collar that ends up on the floor can be easily located.

I forgot to mention that I have the hand-eye coordination of someone with neither hands nor eyes. I wish I’d known about collars before I started playing Surgeon Simulator on this watch.

Leather strap? Nato?

·

Absolutely the worst. In this day in age, it cannot possibly be that much cheaper than to just use screws. Sadly, I have enough Seikos where I have got the hang of it, but it doesn't make it any better.

Leather strap? Nato?

Thinking of getting the OEM silicone strap, since it’s not exchangeable after my little misadventure.

·

May I ask what the problem is exactly?

I only have pin and collar watches and I’ve never had any reason to post a „hate post“.

·

I have a watch with a pin and collar bracelet. I need to redo it to get the clasp centered better, but it doesn't quite feel worth the effort, so I'm just dealing with it.

I think you and a few others are on the high end of vision and dexterity spectrum. I’m on the end that develops Tourette’s while swapping a spring bar. 😅

·

I am about to wrestle with one too. I hate them so much.

·

This watch is great on a Strapcode bracelet. Get yourself one. You won’t regret it.

Blue craft has a strap made specifically for that watch.

May the odds be ever in your favor. 🫡

And don’t be a moron like me and do this on a black sofa with gray carpeting underneath. One collar went flying off when I picked it up with tweezers and I think it let me eventually find it out of pity.

·

This is the reason I can't see myself buying a Titanium Grand Seiko, 5k+ for collar and pin 🤦🏽‍♂️

.. you’ve never lost that on the floor before you?

Oh I did.

But after that one time I knew what I was in for 😅

·

I’ve gotten really good luck with the tools that come in the cheap Chinese watch repair kits. I know my luck might be running out though and I’m sure this fate will befall me before long

·

Simply throw the bracelet away, you will thank me later :D

You might change your mind when you try to resize a Seiko Monster PADI. A true nightmare. You‘ll need like ten times the skills and tools compared to other pin&collar systems.

The one of that Samurai could be similar.

So I fared well and managed to wear a bracelet I haven’t touched in a year or so and I’m rather proud of myself. It want easy but I bested the pin and collar.

I guess you are blessed with good eyesight and finger dexterity. For those who do not have the above, the collars used by Seiko and Casio are so tiny they are easily lost when being handled.

The long collars/sleeve used in Omega bracelets (when they used pin & collars for their bracelet links) are excellent!

·

I tried to fit the iPose Milanese strap and just couldn't do it using a 20mm bar - I couldn't compress it far enough. The best I could do was fit a 19mm bar but I was worried about it popping out. Shamefaced I took it to my local watchmaker. He struggled a bit and then asked me to leave it with him. Turns out he can't do it either and reckons the 19mm will be ok 🤞

·

I've dealt with split pins. No pin and collar, yet

·

Throw a NATO on it and call it a day. Thats the reason why Seiko's are Strap Monsters ... I understand

·

I don’t see how it is a problem, to be honest😋

·

I really don't mind p&c. Looks neat and is more solid than screws when it's done, and tho it's fiddly it's generally only something that needs to be done once!

Really don't understand the hate 🤯

·

Screwed in links on this Miltat Hexad ... Best alternative to the standard - it hugs the case properly too !!

Image
·

Ugh, pin and collar 🤦‍♂️… might I humbly suggest checking out the Strapcode MilTat Hex bracelet for the Samuari? A little pricy at $100 but seriously sooo much nicer than Seiko’s stock ones. Screw links, plenty of micro adjustment, and hefty enough to balance the head of the watch nicely on wrist.
