Annoyed People

Does anyone have any family members that they annoy with their watch talk? My wife doesn't care about them so i learned to avoid the conversation but last night i told my 6 year old daughter to come look at the lume on my watch above, Seiko Speedtimer, and she said "dad, you've shown me a million times!" I guess she won't be a collector haha

I don't bore normal people with watch talk.

Limited to online and people who sell/repair watches.

My 8 year old has a small collection. 2 swatches and a ladies Invicta Pro diver. I'm gently coaxing him into the hobby and he seems interested. I hope it sticks.

I have 1 friend I can talk to about watches because he collects as well. I tried to join a local Redbar but I guess I didn't make the cut. I have you all here on WC.

Otherwise, I keep it to myself.......unless I feel the desire to torture my listener.😄

Nice lume BTW.

That is why I am here. I know a few folks in real life, but even then, I lose them if I push to hard, so, yeah, like Forhorn said, I keep it to this realm and meetups.

Thanks. It's one of the Seiko Nightvision series watches.

You never know tastes change by time she is older or may be different

·

What's your opinion on code 41 watches

·

My wife does not care either ... even after purchasing her a Tudor and a Longines :(

·

My 14 and 16 year old daughters can (and do) now point out Subs to me in the wild…they went from watch-talk annoyed to pro-active

·

When my children see me winding the watch in the morning they avoid all eye contact before I start😂it’s obviously bullshit to them but u know… I enjoy it

My 14 yr old daughter doesn't care, although she loves the casio f91w I bought her. My wife indulges me and my craziness. Infact, she notified me yesterday that she had noticed my watch boxes were full. She ordered me 2 new watch boxes that will arrive Monday.

I never talk about watches because nobody I know would find it interesting. My three year old however has me rumbled: "Daddy, do you wear a different watch every day?..."

No one cares. I will briefly talk with patients about it when I see them come in with luxury watches on. Dangerous though. My nurse gives me the evil eye when I do it.

My wife asked what i was doing a few nights ago because my watches are in the front room. I said i was winding my watches and she was like, "winding your watches? What are you an old man?" Haha. Got an eyeroll too

My wife indulges me in pretending to listen and care when I go on my rambling about movements, finishing, or historical relevance. I guess it's better than nothing. 😉

·

My partner doesn't care about watches and wants me to avoid the "technical" conversations about them with her... so I feel you on this.

·

I only talk about watches with people if they are interested in it. Otherwise, I keep it to myself

·

When I talk watches to my wife she just starts talking about handbags and shoes. Shuts me up pretty quick that does

Even then, sometimes people with luxury watches aren’t into the hobby. It’s a luxury good to them and not a piece of horology. And I’ve had instances where they seem to get paranoid with the wrong impression that I’m overly interested in the expensive piece of jewelry on their wrist

Watch talk around here is like trying to hand out the Watchtower mag.

I played the long game with my wife by attending watch gatherings with her in fun locations like wineries, breweries and museums where she could mingle with other wives and casual enthusiasts. She can now hold her own discussing watches and pursuing watches that appeal to her.

Friday evening we attended a swanky luxury watch event sponsored by Watch Magazine with free valet parking, free premium booze, excellent hors d'oeuvres and fancy desserts. At the end of a wonderful evening we each won $500! It's safe to say she's fully on board now.😁

My father used to do watch repairs in the 70-80s. He wears his quartz seiko, I wear my JLC/Cartier and we agree to disagree when it comes to our tastes in watches (ie he thinks practicality is king). Occasionally we give appreciative but silent nods at each others watches

·

I see people swith off when I start 😂but I don't stop don't want to listen get the fuck out of my way times ticking on regardless

·

The next time she says “dad, you’ve shown me a million times” you tell her “how many times have I had to watch “insert movie/cartoon””? 😂

·

Only my wife and my best friend knows I like watches. I kinda like having a secret hobby I get to share on Instagram away from my personal life. Sounds nuts but late night I sit on desk chair and watch random videos and change the straps of my watches see what looks good etc. On some weird watch Zen meditation. Personally I really don't want intruders inside my bubble.

No one in my family cares about watches, but several coworkers love them as much as I do. So I get to talk about watches at work!! Which is nice
