Omega Seamaster Professional - Best Looking Diver?

As an owner of the SMP, I must confess my bias at the outset. The Omega Seamaster Professional is not merely a diver’s watch; it’s Omega’s Masterclass if you will on not only form/function, but beautiful aesthetics! It certainly captures your attention quickly with its captivating wave pattern dial, delicately engraved with laser precision, revels and enchanting play of light, sometimes subtle, sometimes bold depending on the lighting and color of the dial.

The distinctive lyre lug design, gracefully curving in and out, serves as another visual delight of the watch, offering a seamless blend of form and function. The addition of the striking red-tipped seconds hand against the white dial, accompanied by the vibrant red font, elevates the entire ensemble if you will, infusing a wavy dial with an extra burst of energy and vibrancy. You also have the ceramic bezel that looks incredible under the light and has a very tactile feel when turning the oh-so beautiful scalloped bezel!

The innovation is masterful as well with Dr. George Daniel’s creation of the coaxial escapement, which removes the need to add lubricant in many if not most of Omega’s watches since 1999. So not only is the watch a gorgeous time piece but will need less servicing.

Below are the Crunchers who posted their SMP’s on WRUW yesterday. I did not capture every color, green and black/gold as an example. For those Crunchers not listed below, add your SMP wrist shot as a testament to the beauty of the Seamaster Professional.

BOOM!!!

I love mine and think it looks great, but not sure about the function piece. :-) Mine definitely does not agree with salt water. Other than not wanting to do the thing it is made for, it is an absolute stunner.

Are you rinsing after a saltwater dunk? Again, really good meeting you in NYC and you have an impressive collection of watches!

The NTTD Seamaster please

The NTTD Seamaster please

That one is a beauty for sure!

Mine is the first of the new design from 1993. I would really like to get the white dial and black bezel version. To me that is the hottest one.

The pleasure was all mine.

Absolutely, under warm to hot water and lots of rotations! It’s more of the salt that binds up the bezel while I am there. I just pulled mine out of the box to wear to dinner tonight.

Best Seamaster of them all 😎

·

Maybe just me but I like the 6pm date wheel on my SMP vs the 3 o’clock on my others. And no cyclops either! Rolex keeping that date magnifier “cyclops” on their watches is like Nike putting their swish logo on sweat bands.

Love my Great White 😍

Damn man! I kept scrolling and scrolling to get to the reply section. How long did it take you to upload a million pics...???

Re looks, I would say it has its days (hmm... model variations) but overall I would say by far not the best-looking. But it beats the hell out of IWC aquatimer with that meatgrinder attached at 9 o'clock

This watch and every watch in this post that DOES NOT have the hideous Omega bracelet looks so damn good - the one that you shared with white face and red/black nato strap is an absolute delight - my problem with Omega is their ugly bracelet - even chinese watches from alibaba use better bracelets than Omega uses on Seamasters and I feel so disappointed every time I see those weird chunky clanky matt finish bracelets with 4 lines runing vertically across 🤦 - Any other strap, even rubber ones that lot of Seamasters now come with elevate the watch so much more compared to classic Seamaster bracelets - This isnt hate for Omega - I absolutely love the brand and cant wait to buy the Seamaster myself but hoping and waiting for better bracelet and strap quality

there was I think a fratello article on what makes the best bracelet and the end was hilarious (pardon the paraphrase):

"The rule is buy the watch on the damn bracelet...unless it's an SMP300 then buy the rubber and the steel version of their mesh bracelet!" I laughed so hard at that

Another contentious point about the watch is the bracelet itself. I've often heard it called the "old man's" bracelet or a throwback to the early 90's. I don't hate the bracelet and I'm not in love with it either. Clearly it was not part of my decision process considering the plethora of options on the market, not limited to rubber and nato straps.

I certainly understand, you want to purchase the full package. Here's to a smaller variant and a better bracelet (as long as they don't touch the dual😉). Appreciate you getting into the conversation. Thanks Sam. 🙏

I'm a big fan of the Tuna too.

I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation regarding the benefits of the coaxial escapement. It’s sole function is to reduce wear on the pallet jewels and escapement.

It does nothing to prevent wear to pinions, jewels, mainspring or any other moving contact points that typically build up dust or grit. That is to say that a coaxial movement will develop wear on the barrel, centre wheel pinion and third wheel pinion, etc. the same as any watch. Almost all modern movements have extended service times due to the use of modern lubricants. A coaxial movement should be serviced at the same intervals that one would service any other modern movement to prevent wear to the pinions and jewels, etc. over time. The simplest way to put it is that whenever you decide to service your movement, the escapement and pallet jewels will have less wear than a different movement. Everything else will be just as worn (or worn out).

And she's a beauty Ed! Your father knew how to take care of this SMP, it's super-clean, love it! I'm sure it's a cherished piece for you! Thanks for sharing Ed 🙏

Thank you Danilo! Cherished is the perfect word!

I love the design of Seamaster, but since I have small 16cm wrist, I prefer the small sized older model. This one is 41mm diameter, 47mm lug to lug, and fits well.

Although a 41 mm (which many enthusiasts may prefer), it still has many of the same design elements of the newer variant. Looks beautiful and very clean! Thanks for posting Masa. 🙏

She's a beauty and I can understand not needing another after her! Gorgeous 😍!

·

Agreed on the models beauty. Thank you kindly 🙏

It was my first nato. Wasn't a big fan until an impromptu visit to the AD. Asked them to swap out the bracelet for the nato to see if I liked the new look. I haven't taken it off since. BTW you have an impressive collection! 👏
